I gained a lot of weight and am having gastric bypass surgery later this year. I have a panus, would I benefit from a panectomy?

A panniculectomy consists of removing the apron of skin that hangs. The general indications for this are skin rashes, irritation, recurrent infection and interference in activities of daily living - such as moving, walk, or bending over. The timing of the surgery varies and may not be appropriate to do at the time of your gastric bypass. However as your are losing weight, the pannus may worsen giving you more problems. Then, after consultation, a decision could be made to perform a panniculectomy prior to your hitting your goal weight.
