{Tested} WEN Hair Care

——————————————————————————————————————————————

You may have seen the compelling infomercials for the WEN Haircare System that promise shinier, more voluminous hair. Nine FOFs tested the entire system (retail value: $29.95) which contains a conditioner, a styling cream, an “intensive” hair treatment, a texture balm and a comb.

Reps at WEN say shampoos that lather use sulfates and detergents and “strip your hair of natural essential oils. WEN’s no-lather products are made from ?“a perfect blend of herbs and natural ingredients,” according to the company. The system “cleanses and conditions without harsh chemicals to improve the look and feel of hair.”

ANGIE RODRIGUEZ – Baltimore, MD

Tell us about the packaging and application. Were these products easy to use?
The box was departmentalized with the conditioning cleanser in one section, the deep conditioner in another section, the styling cream in another, and a wide tooth comb and texturizing balm. There were explicit directions on how to use the products printed on the inside and on all the bottles.

SUSAN LEWIS – Dallas, TX

Tell us about the packaging and application. Were these products easy to use?
Love the pump dispenser. The products, especially the cleansing conditioner, are time consuming to use. I’m more of a wash and air dry person and don’t like to spend a lot of time washing and styling my hair.

Did you like the fragrance of these products?
It was okay–not too strong.

Did they give your hair more volume?
I could not see a real difference in volume after using these products. I usually do not use too many products in my hair as they tend to weigh it down.

Was your hair more manageable?
Not really.

What was your overall experience with these products?
These products were too time consuming. They did not offer enough of an improvement to my hair to warrant the high price.

Have you noticed any other differences in your hair after one week?
No.

Would you purchase these products for $29.95? Why or why not?
No, I would not. Did not notice enough of an improvement in my hair to pay such a high price.

Would you recommend these products to other FOFs?
No, unless people are willing to pay a high price.

KATHLEEN A. RILEY-DANIELS – Minnetonka, MN

Tell us about the packaging and application. Were these products easy to use?
I liked the packaging for the most part. The only one that was a bit messy was the deep conditioner. The shampoo, balm and gel were simple to get out and put onto my hair.

Did you like the fragrance of these products?
Yes, this was a good fit for me. I noticed that the products felt good on my scalp too.

Did they give your hair more volume?
I had hoped for good volume with better control. I did not notice [my hair] being any different than when I use Moroccan Oil or Aveda products.

Was your hair more manageable?
Yes, I did notice a difference. With most products, I am still unable to get a comb through my hair when it is wet. [After using Wen] I was able to comb through with no snags.

What was your overall experience with these products?
I liked the products overall, and will continue to use them until they are gone.

Have you noticed any other differences in your hair after one week?
When my hair is dry, I am not seeing any difference.

If the shipping were free, I would order at this price.

Would you recommend these products to other FOFs?
Maybe. I liked being able to comb through my hair, but is it enough of a difference to recommend the products? Not sure on that. I anticipated better results.

JOANNA BAKER – Cleveland, Ohio

Tell us about the packaging and application. Were these products easy to use?
The packaging was good. It was very eco-friendly–not too much excessive plastic and cardboard to throw away. The product was a bit different to use. [You have to] section the hair into four sections and apply the cleansing conditioner to each–but, it was easy enough.

Did you like the fragrance of these products?
Yes, they smelled really good.

What was your overall experience with these products?
At first my hair felt amazing. Softer, fuller and easier to style. But, by the afternoon, I noticed that my hair was looking greasy and a bit stringy. I think it was too much of a conditioner and not enough of a cleanser. I continued to use it thinking my hair would get used to it, but it did not.

Have you noticed any other differences in your hair after one week?
It made my hair oilier.

Would you purchase these products for $29.95? Why or why not?
No. It was obviously not meant for someone with fine, straight, oily hair.

Would you recommend these products to other FOFs?
Yes, to friends who have extremely dry, over-processed hair.

The product dried out my hair, nothing special about it like the infomercial says. I don’t like it and would never buy it again. Maybe it’s not the hair product for women of color. The customer service department is even worse.

I have strongly suffered from seasonal hair loss. Did not want to go to the doctors, tried different shampoos, conditioners, misc hair nutrition products – with almost no results whatsoever. Then, I’ve read on the hair support forum that there could be a lot of internal reasons for hair loss, and the basic nutrition has to be done from inside out. I started to take vitamins and supplements. Recently, I’ve read about Hair Gain Formula by Military Grade and tried also this supplement product. I’ve been taking it from September and fortunate for me I no longer have seasonal hair loss. I am happy I don’t have to take dozens of pills – all necessary vitamins are contained in this supplement. And it really works! Will definitely take it until spring at least, to check the second ‘dangerous’ season.

Yes,it works on any color hair.I think if I were you,I’d go with the LAVENDER,just in case the violet color might help.I’m to the point where I take my WEN with me if I go have it done! They might not like it,but I tell them that they will not like even their best efforts without the WEN.
      Is
s so important to use a bit os the cleanser mixed withe styling cream on the last 2/3rds of your locks.I depend on WEN to keep me in that “rich girl” hair mode even though I’m past 60.My hair has never looked better!

I had wondered about this product after seeing the infomercials. I wash my hair in the shower every morning and I’m always in a rush to get out the door so finding out this system is time-consuming and doesn’t make much difference saved my hard-earned money. Thank you!

Well, I bit the bullet and actually PURCHASED these products. So here is my “Out of My Own Pocketbook Review”:

Tell us about the packaging and application. Were these products easy to use?
The pump dispenser was great; beats unsnapping a cap or flipping a lid when I have wet hands in the shower.
The tube and plastic container were nothing special; typical packaging for serums and balms.

Did you like the fragrance of these products?
It was a bit herbally/minty for me….kind of reminded me of the home made hair products a few friends made and sold in the 80s with rosemary and mint herbs infused in them.

Did they give your hair more volume?
No, not any more noticeable than when I use my regular mass market brand name products.

    Was your hair more manageable?
No more so than when I use any other shampoo and conditioner.

What was your overall experience with these products?
I was so disappointed; I expected a big difference in the texture and feel of my hair. It was no more manageable nor silky than when I used much more reasonably priced products.

Have you noticed any other differences in your hair after one week?
    None whatsoever.

Would you purchase these products for $29.95? Why or why not?
No. They were way overpriced for the benefits touted, but not delivered. Additionally, trying to cancel future orders was tricky and I ended up paying a very pretty penny for the second order that was shipped before I could cancel it in time.

Would you recommend these products to other FOFs?
No, I would not. If money is burning a hole in your pocket and you want to order a ‘spendy’ product, go online and order the Living Proof line of haircare products. They are truly amazing when it comes to smoothing and manageability, but cost way more than what you can pick up at your local grocery or pharmacy. It’s a trade-off, but at least you get a good product.
