an article in New York Times about a woman who received a Brazilian Keratin hair treatment. “Such a gushing testimonial is not unusual” the article goes on to say.
The hair treatment, pioneered in Brazil, uses active keratin, a protein akin to a component of human hair. It yields results that are undoubtedly pretty spectacular. Keratin treated hair is sleeker, straighter, shinier and lasts up to a month. We’re sold on the concept, but not so much on the $250-per-application salon bill.
So, when we heard that
nuNAAT released a kit which provides you with everything you need to do your own Keratin hair treatment at home, we wanted to know the straight dope.
The kit retails for $24.95 and includes shampoo, gloss and conditioner. The formula is derived from “soybean, corn and wheat that are bio-compatible with hair fibers, allowing for the temporary change in hair structure,” according to the company.

I have been toying with the idea of keratin for my oh-so crazy wavy curly hair but the price has always stopped me. I would be thrilled to try it for the that price.
I am a keratin addict, and have tried many of them, including several at home kits. (I loved brazillian blowouts, but don’t want to die from them)… I love the shine that keratin treatments do for my 75% grey/white hair. Love the smoothness, and I live in Houston so smoothing treatments are a necessity , not an option.
Would love to try a product that works at that price point.
NuNaat is being pushed big time. But unlike a real Brazilian keratin straightener, it’s a short-lived “smoothing” treatment that has gotten very mixed reviews since hitting the market in March 2012. In particular, it performs rather poorly at frizz control, which is perhaps the most valuable benefit of a Brazilian blowout. At $25 per month, it’s really not a bargain

I have never tried keratin but have always wanted to. The treatments turn out shiny and smooth, just what I need.
As with aging, our hair is not nearly as shiny as it used to be! This is also true for me since I have been on meds since my middle 40s. I have kept color on my hair since I was sixteen. I would love to try these products on my hair. If they work, I will be skipping a dance!!
I also have been told many times that I am a great candidate for Keratin but the price is too much for my pocket and I worry about putting chemicals in my hair. I have dark brown with many many crazy grey hairs that have a mind of their own. I like sticking with what god has given me and don’t look to color, straighten or otherwise do crazy things. Maybe this may be a good option for me.

My hair was always straight, sleek and shiny when I was younger. My curly headed sisters always wanted their hair to be straight like mine. Enter aging and menopause and gray hair. My natural hair is probably 50% gray, and with gray comes FRIZZ. Now, I have to fight my frizz.

What you’re saying about keratin is spot-on. However, Nunaat is NOT a keratin treatment like the ones you’ve had. It’s a weaker “smoothing treatment” lasting only 30 days and not comparable to salon keratin in terms of frizz control and curl control.

I would love to try this on my long curly hair. It’s as if it has a mind of it’s own as they say… it does what it wants…. alot of the time it has to do with the weather as to how fuzzy it is. It could use some TLC.

My hair used to have a fabulous healthy shine. Unfortunately it has lost its luster and nothing I have tried so far has been able to restore the shine. I have been toying with the idea of getting a keratin treatment so would love to try it to see if it would do the trick.
I have tried the professional keratin/Brazilian treatment 3 times and loved it. But at 250 or even 350 per treatment it is far too expensive for me. I would be thrilled to find an at home treatment. As a working mom, the breadwinner in the family, my time is precious. So anything that helps me get out the door faster, i.e., shorten the blow dry, would be absolute heaven!
There is no reason anyone should have to spend anything close to what salons charge for a keratin treatment. They are easy to do yourself, although they can take 2 hours to do. But if you’re willing to spend the time, which you’d be doing anyway while sitting in a salon chair, then you can have the same results for about $15 per treatment.
This NuNaat they’re sampling here is NOT the same as salon keratin. It lasts only 30 days instead of 3-4 months, and has received very mixed reviews by actual users, including lackluster performance in frizz reduction and straightening.

This is the product I’ve needed my whole life (well, maybe just since Junior High…) since my hair has always been naturally curly, and in the humidity, frizzy. I have been “hair-challenged” my entire life, starting with the crooked bangs my mother always cut when I was a kid, just before school pictures were taken. I cannot afford the beauty shops keratin treatment. Just want to be sure there is no formaldehyde in the chemicals, one reason some beauty shops will not give the treatments as it is dangerous for their own staff and clients. I’ve been combatting the wavy issue for years. I would love to try this. Getting healthier looking hair alone would be a bonus. I am growing out my years of blonde and going back to original brown. The damage was too much and I got tired of it. I’ve gotten so many compliments on brown that I guess I’m staying there, although not fully there yet. I have had Japanese treatments which last for around six months and Keratin ones….I would really love to be able to do it myself!!!
what i am curious about is the fact it lasts 30 days. how long before you can use it again or color hair? i have read on similar products that usage is limited to every ninety days, and nothing is said about coloring other than hair can’t have been colored for at least 30 days prior to usage. what’s the story on these questions?

I would love to try keratin since I never have before. My hair is below my waist, thick, no gray. I am so lucky, but I wish it had the shine it did when I was younger. Maybe this will allow me to keep long hair a few years longer. People guess my age in the 30′s and I love being able to say 50 and seeing the startled reaction on their faces. I have very thin, fine hair that is in desperate need of health and shine. I would love the opportunity to try keratin on my hair!
IMO, it wasn’t worth the application effort because the 1) it wears off too quickly; 2) the frizz reduction was only moderate–didn’t perform well enough on really humid days; and 3) it didn’t reduce my blow drying or styling time. Plus it smells bad. There is no substitute for a real keratin treatment. I know they’re expensive but I started doing my own two years ago for approx. $15 per treatment, which is less than this costs. They last me 3-4 months and my blow drying time is probably less than half of what if was before. But the main thing is, the frizz control is excellent–my hair stays even in high humidity–and I can wear my hair as straight as I want (I don’t like it stick straight, I like some bend and volume). If I’m going to spend 1-2 hours on application, the product needs to LAST and WORK. I like Uncurly.com the best, Global.com(?) is a close second but it sometimes irritates my scalp. Maria Teixera changed their formula, no longer good, IMO.

I am looking for something that works for me. I have never tried keratin before now. My hair is dry and brittle. I would like to try nuNAAT’s Ultra Touch Keratin. My concern has never been price, but does it work? I would be elated to know that it works for my hair and for the price of 24.95, I would consider it to be a great find. Whether I win or not, I will be trying this product.

I heard about the keratin treatment and asked my personal hair stylist about it, she recommended it highly so I went ahead and had her do it for me..my hair has been died fried blow dried beyond repair… So I thought.. It’s very curly, I’m half black and Hispanic but its not super curly but definately hard to manage. It worked amazingly and i LOVED the results …It cost me over 300$
