{Tested} Brush on Block

——————————————————————————————————————————————

Brush on Block (retail value: $24.95), from Susan Posnick Cosmetics, is a refillable brush with sun protection powder. It features “natural minerals which sit on top of your skin and reflect the sun’s rays away from your body,” according to a company press release. It also “appears transparent on the skin,” so it can be worn either under or over makeup.

The design of the brush applicator “helps prevent the product from running or dripping into the eye area and makes it less likely to irritate the skin or clog pores,” the manufacturer claims.

Is it really as sun-sational as it sounds? Read on for reviews.

Tell us about the packaging and application. Was this product easy to use?
The product was well packaged with easy instructions. At first it was a little difficult to tell if any product was being dispensed but then I noticed powder in the air next to my skin so I knew it was coming out.

Did you like the fragrance of this product?
There was no fragrance.

Was it greasy or messy? Did it drip at all?
There was no mess. The product is in a powder form.

Was it invisible under or over your makeup?
Yes, it was invisible. When I applied it to my skin I couldn’t see the product.

Did this product irritate your skin?
No, I did not experience any irritation.

What was your overall experience with this product?
The experience was neither good nor bad.

Would you purchase this product for $24.95? Why or why not?
I would not purchase this product, because I couldn’t see or feel the product being applied, so I wasn’t sure whether I had good enough coverage to protect from sun damage.

How does this compare to other sunblocks that you have used?
Other sunblocks I’ve used have been in a liquid form that I apply with my fingers. I was able to feel and see where the product was going. With this product I could not.

Would you recommend this product to other FOFs?
No.

Tell us about the packaging and application. Was this product easy to use?
The packaging was attractive enough, and the product was really easy to use.

Did you like the fragrance of this product?
I actually didn’t notice any fragrance.

Was it greasy or messy? Did it drip at all?
Not at all–primarily because it’s a powder.

Was it invisible under or over your makeup?
Yes.

Did this product irritate your skin?
Not at all.

What was your overall experience with this product?
I’m really glad to have found out about it.

Would you purchase this product for $24.95? Why or why not?
Yes, I definitely would. Because of my pale complexion and ignorant suntanning in my youth, I now have to wear sunscreen anytime I go outside. Since I also put it on my hands (and feet, too, if I’m wearing sandals) it tends to get on everything I touch. Brush On Block is just so convenient! I just brush it on my hands, and feet, too, if needed, and it’s so much quicker than what I was doing and not at all messy.

Would you recommend this product to other FOFs?
Yes, definitely.

Tell us about the packaging and application. Was this product easy to use?
The packaging was colorful and the application was easy but it was hard to tell how much powder was actually being applied.

Did you like the fragrance of this product?
The fragrance was pleasant and not too overpowering.

It was not greasy or messy and it was invisible on the skin.

The overall experience was pleasant but it was hard to figure out how much of the powder actually stayed on my face.

Would you purchase this product for $24.95? Why or why not?
I am undecided as to whether I would purchase the product again. I think the idea of the powder is great but not sure if it works as well as a lotion.

Would you recommend this product to other FOFs?
I would recommend this product to my friends to use as an everyday sunscreen but not if you are at the beach all day.

Constance NorthrupLake Elmo, Minnesota

Tell us about the packaging and application. Was this product easy to use?
The product was difficult to use. I still haven’t gotten the hang of it. You twist the bottom and flick your wrist to get the powder to come through the brush but it doesn’t always work. I ended up opening the bottom and dipping into it some of the time.

Did you like the fragrance of this product?
[It’s] great. [It] seems fragrance free.

Was it greasy or messy?
It was [a] nice powder that you did not even feel. I could tell it was on because the shine left my face but [I didn’t feel it.]

Was it invisible under or over your makeup?
[It was] pretty invisible. It leaves a light, matte finish.

Did this product irritate your skin?
I had zero skin irritation.

What was your overall experience with this product?
I loved the product except for [the] application. It goes on easily and quickly, just towel dry [before applying] after swimming. I used it on my back, shoulders, decollete, arms, face and neck. [It’s a] nice portable size. Not much larger than 4 lipsticks. [It] stays shut in my beach bag. It feels great and the applicator brush is so luxurious to the touch.

Would you purchase this product for $24.95? Why or why not?
It is a little expensive for the amount of powder you get. I would snap it up on sale for under $20.

How does this compare to other sunblocks that you have used?
I love the idea of not using lotion. Your hands stay clean, [it’s quick to apply] and [there’s] no streaking. Most importantly, [there are] no chemicals seeping into your skin.

Would you recommend this product to other FOFs?
I absolutely would. We need to protect our skin from the harsh environment and this does the trick. I like to use my own face cream and I don’t want my suntan lotion to interfere with it. It is the best idea ever for sun block in a portable option.
