{Giveaway} Paula Dorf Eye and Face Primer

FOF makeup maven, Paula Dorf, is giving away 10 sets of her eye and face primer. To enter, read her “7 FOF Beauty Sins,” then answer this question in the comments below: Which of these “sins” do you commit most often?

Thank you for entering. This contest is now closed.

[Read the entire interview with Paula here]

Sin #1: We don’t use primer.
Be a saint: Primer neutralizes oil, dryness and redness. It helps foundation go on better and stay in place. To use primer, let it absorb into the skin and dry before applying foundation. Try: Paula’s “Perfect Primer,” for oily or dry skin.

Sin #2: We don’t fill in our eyebrows.
Be a saint: As you get older, your brows get thinner and more sparse. Don’t fear filling them in–just do it correctly. Use a brow stencil that matches the shape of your brow and fill in with powder in your natural brow color. Try: Paula’s Brow Stencil Kit and 2+1 For Brows powder and wax

Sin #3: We’re over 50, but we wear our blush like 20-somethings.
Be a saint: Blush on the apples of your cheek looks great when you’re younger. But after 50, it can make you look sunken-in if not applied properly. Smile and place a cream blush on your cheek, then sweep it back to the hairline.  Follow with cheek color powder for added staying power. Use a professional cheek brush for the most natural looking results. Try: Paula’s Cheek Brush

Sin #4: Lip liner overload!
Be a saint: Put lipstick on first, then a little liner afterwards. This way you’re not going over your lips, you’re staying inside. Finish with a little bit of gloss.

Sin #5: We’re afraid of colored lipstick.
Reverse your sin: Any woman can wear colors on her lips. Don’t be afraid! Lips and eyes are very connected. When you put more color on your lips, your eyes will pop more.

Sin #6: We use too much eyeliner.
Reverse your sin: When eyeliner is too heavy, it closes the eyes. So as we get older, we need to apply a thinner line.

Sin #7: We use our cleanser as makeup remover
Reverse your sin:
Your cleanser shouldn’t be doing double-duty as makeup remover. When you use cleanser, you tend to rub. A makeup remover takes it off gently–that’s especially important around the eyes. Try: Sweep Away Makeup Remover

Enter to win a set of Paula Dorf’s eye and face primer. 10 FOFs will win. Read her 7 FOF beauty sins then comment below and tell her: Which one do you commit most often?

(See all our past winners. See official rules. Ten winners are chosen at random from all those commenters who answer the question. Contest closes May 5, 2011.)

Please forgive me Paula, for I have sinned, I don’t use primer and should have been. I am not used to wearing lots of make up and had been fortunate over the years to have gotten away with only using a bit of liquid foundation to only cover a few spots here and there. I have Asian skin that tans easily, too easily that I took advantage of it. I now am faced with melasma/hyperpigmentation and have now had to use cover up under loose minerals, which still doesn’t hide the brown patches. Maybe the primer will help set my make up better. At this point I’d love to try anything that will help. Thanks for the opportunity to try your products and have my sins forgiven…

It’s that damned eyeliner. I’ve never used eyeliner before, preferring, instead, to use shadow. The older I get I find I need a little more definition and I’ve been trying to master the art of lining the eye. So far, I’m failing. Most of the time, I look like I punched myself in the eye. The line is always too fat, or too shaky, or not even, goes too far, or not far enough, or, or, or . . . Plus, where do you start the line? How far into the inner lid? How far out? Does the line get fatter as it goes to the outer edge of the lid? Aahhh!

I love primer but I don’t know which one to buy. I’ve tried two. One worked well, the other not so much. But in Florida, foundation just melts off my face and I found that the primer helped it stay put. I love the 7 beauty sins and agree with all but one. I’ve found heavier eyeliner on the bottom and a lighter or no line on top opens up my eyes more. And I don’t EVER bother with lip liner! Even lipstick is a pain, I’m a gloss kinda gal. What do you think of frosted gloss??

I ‘m guilty of not always using a primer,my biggest sin. Eye liner I quit using a few years ago as I noticed that it just looks too harsh as you get older, the same with lip liner. I still have nice brows and I have them done monthly. I guess I need a really good primer to keep my best face forward.

I’ve never used primer. My eyebrows are a big mess-uneven, hair growing in all different directions, way too thin from years of too much tweezing. I have never been sure how to make them look better and I don’t know how to use a filler. My last big sin is years of scrubbing my face to death with whatever body soap I happen to be using at the time. I have tiny broken blood vessels from that. Never use face moisturizer, either, because of my combination oily/dry skin. Is that enough “sin” for a 50-year-old to commit?? LOL!

Mine would be the eyebrows and the cleanser. I don’t know how to do my brows, but you’re right – I’ve noticed they seem to be shrinking! And how exactly do you use a makeup remover and not rub? I use a bit of mineral oil on a cotton ball to dissolve and remove mascara – and remove gently by rolling qtips over & under my lashes, then wash my face.

  179. Susie Wise says:

OMG! I can’t decide which is the #1 thing I’m most guilty of. I go to the cosmetic counter and buy whatever they tell me to. THEN I go home and try to re-create the same look. I guess I should write the steps down, because when I look at my pictures, I think “Who is that old woman and why is she trying to look like a 20-something?” I guess it’s the eyeliner, no, the blusher, no, wait, definitely the eyeliner. My left eyelid is a little more wrinkled than the right and sometimes the line comes on a little heavier, so I blend it and it ends 1/2 way up the lid and into the shadow. I used to be able to
“put on my face” in 15 minutes. Now it takes more like 45.

I’m must really be “sinfull” because I don’t do any of them. I barely brush on my sheer cover, slap on some blush, and add a touch of mascara. My eyebrows are the worst-sparse and thinning as we speak. Any colored lip color makes me feel like a clown and I feel like it makes my teeth look yellow. My hands are too shaky for eyeliner and sometimes I go to bed without removing any of it. Did I just admit all that? I need help!

Oh Boy, GUILTY here on #2 and definatly #7. I own a powerwashing business and after powerwashing a two story home and at the end of the jobs I end up with alot of dirt, leaves and everything else that did not fall to the ground. My point is when I go home to shower I take my cleanser in with me and yes, set it next to my makeup remover, I never thought about the rubbing issue and creating a harsher outcome for my eyes, now I know why they are so darn red and scary looking. Believe me lesson learned, eyes have very delicate skin around them and I will use my makeup remover, hopefully I will use yours!! #2, where to start here, after finishing job, my eyebrows look like groucho marks, I was never one to remain calm with the tweezers, it is hard to tweeze my brows with my eyes constantly closing and opening, in between the OOH’s ad OWE’s, I know I need to fill in some of the gaps, yes, I tryed using a brow pencil a couple of times, my daughter came in and I think she is still laughing, so I stopped trying to fill in. Honestly I have never heard of brow stencils, it seems I have been missing out on alot, I would love to try the stencil. So those are my guilty sins, thank you for the chance of winning one of your eye and face primer sets. Now I can do it right the first time, nothing wrong with re-creating myself at 56.
