At Last, ‘Anti-Aging’ For My Body

This is a “sponsored post.” Crepe Erase compensated FOF with an advertising sponsorship to write it. Regardless, we only recommend products or services that we believe will be helpful for our readers. All insights and expressed opinions are our own. —Geri Brin

While I’ve been pampering my face with some of the most effective ‘anti-aging’ serums and creams on the market, the skin on the rest of my body steadily slid downhill. Figuratively and literally. My elbows and knees were just plain dry, flaky and droopy. (Whoever thought knees could droop!) My legs resembled sandpaper;  my underarms moved like Jell-O!  Even my decolletage looked crepey. Definitely not a good look.

Sure, it’s totally natural for aging skin to become thin, dry and lax as it loses its wonderful foundation of collagen and elastin, but it certainly would be nice to give my problem areas a pick-me-up,  especially now that I’m starting to wear shorter sleeves and pants. Unfortunately, drugstore body lotions only fleetingly hydrate and soften my skin, and don’t do a thing for the crepiness. I’ve tried dozens of them over the years, so I can speak from experience.

As editor of a popular website, I’m often invited to try out all kinds of beauty products. One brand–Crepe Erasejumped out at me because I remembered seeing the actress, Jane Seymour, talk about it on TV. She looks sensational, at 66, and has been using Crepe Erase for years, a fine endorsement right there! It’s also a big big seller on QVC, where they call it “anti-aging for your body.”  That definitely got my attention.

The formula features TruFirm Complex, an exclusive blend that includes three plant extracts, to help reinforce our skin’s netting, so the skin can appear tighter and firmer, and looks like it did when we were younger. Crepe Erase also contains seven powerful hydrators, including coconut oil, shea butter, cocoa butter, olive oil, beeswax, cassava and Vitamin E, which absorb quickly and work to visibly soothe and renew the skin.

Crepe Erase is the #1 Anti-Aging Body Treatment System for Dry, Crepey Skin*

(*Based on Crepe Erase sales data & IRI & NPD sales data for 2017.)

The Essentials Kit only includes two simple steps

I use Exfoliating Body Polish when I shower, to lift away dead, rough surface cells and make my skin look smoother and more radiant. After the shower, I massage the Intensive Body Repair Treatment, with the TruFirm Complex, into the crepey skin around my neck, chest, arms and legs. The Body Polish has a beautiful, fresh scent and the Repair Treatment absorbs quickly and isn’t one bit greasy.

I can report back that the skin on my body hasn’t felt this smooth and hydrated in many years, and I’ve only been using Crepe Erase for three weeks. Plus, if I’ve learned one thing about skin care products, it’s that the more consistently you use them, the better the results.

Crepe Erase isn’t a glorified body lotion. Trust me, it feels like I’ve tried them ALL.  If my word isn’t enough, look at these impressive results from a 4-and 8-week Crepe Erase clinical study, not to mention the incredible before-and-after images they revealed on QVC.

98% experienced improvement in evenness of skin tone on their décolleté.

90% showed improvement in the look of skin firmness on their arms.

88% of women experienced an improvement in the look of skin roughness on their legs and knees.

{Based on average results of a 49 person evaluation by an expert clinical grader}

97% saw an improvement in the smoothness and softness of their skin.

95% experienced a lifted appearance of their skin.

91% of women showed improvement in the look of crepey skin.

{Based on average results of a 49 person evaluation by an expert clinical grader measuring décolleté, arms, knees & legs}

Results will vary.

Crepe Erase is so confident that you’ll love its products, it invites you to use them for 60 days, and, if you’re not satisfied, you can return the tubes–EVEN EMPTY–for a full refund, less s&h! This offer even gives me more confidence that these are quality beauty products. Plus, the line is incredibly reasonable in the first place!

Why I’m Incorporating Squalane Into My Skincare Routine

This post is sponsored by Biossance, but all opinions are my own!

Have you ever bought a fine leather handbag, and the salesperson advised you to periodically rub it with a leather oil so it would stay soft and supple? If you didn’t treat it well, the bag would lose its natural oil and dry up. Well, our skin is no different than that bag; up until our 20s, our microscopic sebaceous glands secrete an oily substance, called squalane, that lubricates the skin on our face and scalp. Problem is, the amount of squalane that we make rapidly declines in our early 20s, so by the time we reach 50 years old, our squalane production is cut in half. That’s when our skin noticeably becomes rough, dry and vulnerable!

I found out about squalane when I went to a local Sephora to check out their latest anti-aging products. A particularly knowledgeable saleswoman took me to a brand called Biossance, whose total skin care line is made with this “mega moisturizing molecule.”

Besides recreating the squalane that our skin was born with, the company’s Berkeley, CA scientists developed a patented technology to extract it from sustainably sourced sugarcane, I later read on the Biossance website. Interestingly, luxury skincare products traditionally used squalane harvested from shark livers, which made them a lot more expensive than Biossance 100% Squalane Oil (it’s $58 for 3.38 FL. OZ, which will last for many, many months). (more…)

Your Skin Care Products Absolutely Need This One Ingredient

The same thing happened over and over again, for decades. I was a pushover when the pushy salespeople in upscale beauty departments vowed that their uber-expensive lotions and potions would work wonders on my skin. Little did I know I was paying an arm and a leg for fancy packaging, while the ingredients in the products turned out to be anything but miracle workers on my creases, wrinkles and lines.

Today, thanks to the knowledge I’ve been lucky enough to acquire while running FabOverFifty, I unequivocally can report that you must remember two words when you’re about to buy your next beauty product:

Hyaluronic acid.

HA is the single most important ingredient you’ll need in a cream, lotion or serum as you age because it supplies your skin with the essential properties that keep it looking fresh and youthful. Think soft, supple, firm and plump!

The Italian Beauty Secret Revealed!

I started learning about the intriguing beauty and fashion habits of European women, especially Italian and French women, when I was an editor at Women’s Wear Daily and W Magazine in the early 1980s.

I say ‘intriguing’ because these ladies not only pay painstaking attention to the way they look and dress; they make no apologies for their femininity. An Italian woman is an “enchantress, an irresistibly fascinating woman, who exudes sensual, physical, emotional and intellectual beauty–qualities that Italian women have been associated with for centuries,” writes Raeleen D’Agostino Mautner, Ph.D, whose doctoral research focused on a cross-cultural study comparing Italy and the US on body image and other lifestyle factors.

“Italy’s ancient Latin culture has always encouraged the fairer sex to devote guilt-free time to their inner and outer well-being,” Dr. Mautner explains. “Even before the Roman Empire, a long soak in a thermal bath was considered as necessary to a woman’s psyche as beautiful clothes were for her social confidence.  Amiche mie, don’t wait for permission to dedicate a bit of time each day to your inner and outer bellezza.  You are worth it!” she adds.

Although you won’t find many Italian women today soaking in thermal baths, the modern Italian lady continues to meticulously care for her inner and outer beauty, including how she cleanses her body in the bath or shower. That accounts for the success of a product called Lubrigyn Cleansing Lotion, not only in Italy, but throughout Europe. “Lubrigyn is a creamy lotion that cleanses, lubricates and moisturizes, and can be used every single day, in the shower, instead of soap, which is terribly drying. You even can apply it with a tissue, without water, says Sara Olmo, the chemist who helped create it.

“Lubrigyn contains all natural oils, like jojoba and olive oil, to soothe, soften and refresh. And, it’s the only product of its kind with sodium hyaluronate, used in many of today’s skin care formulas. It’s considered the ultimate moisturizer for our faces, and also helps our vaginal tissue to stay supple, moist and keep its elasticity,” adds Sara.

I’ve been using Lubrigyn Cleansing Lotion for the last two years, and my vaginal tissue became more hydrated after just a couple of weeks.

So we created the video below to introduce this exceptional product to American women. I also use Lubrigyn Cleansing Lotion on my entire body. It’s so reasonably priced, I even make sure to keep a couple of extra tubes in my vanity drawer.  I’ll never again put soap or shower gel anywhere near my vaginal area.

Win A JeNu Plus Ultrasonic Infuser!

JeNu and I are celebrating our second anniversary together, and what a partnership it’s been.

Ever since my initial rendezvous with this nifty little Ultrasonic Infuser System, it has treated me gently and safely, visibly reduced my wrinkles and lines, and put a big smile on my face. Now the company that created the JeNu Infuser has launched its Most Powerful Ultrasonic Infuser yet— the JeNu Plus– and it outperforms the original that I had been using every single day–in absorption, improvement and satisfaction.

To celebrate my two years with JeNu, we’re giving away 14 JeNu Plus Infusers over two weeks (that’s one each day). We will announce all of the winners two weeks from today, as well as a special offer from JeNu for all the entrants. Keep reading and fill out the form below!

MORE POWER THAN BEFORE

The new JeNu Plus Infuser is 25% more powerful than the original so your creams and serums can perform even better and faster. JeNu is proven to increase the absorption of leading skin care ingredients by 6 times, giving them the power to work 6 times better than just applying your products with your fingertips.

Our skin works so well as an effective barrier against external materials that it absorbs only between 1% and 10% of skin care creams and lotions, and the rest is wasted! No matter how many “active” ingredients go into creating our serums, moisturizers and creams, and no matter how much the products cost, the majority of them are not absorbed quick enough into the skin to live up to their promises to abolish crows feet, fine lines, and more. The vast majority of them just sit on our skin’s surface, before evaporating into thin air, and while we may see some improvement, it’s invariably short term. (more…)

What Suzanne Somers Does Once A Week To Keep Her Skin Looking Wonderful!

Suzanne Somers may have portrayed Chrissy Snow, a ditsy blonde, in the popular TV sitcom, Three’s Company (it ran from 1977 to 1984), but in real life, no one would call Suzanne “ditsy.” Sharp. Savvy. Entrepreneurial. Controversial, perhaps. But definitely not ditsy.

suzanneOver the course of the last three decades, Suzanne (who turns 70 this October) has built one of the most successful beauty, health and fitness businesses in the United States, with legions of loyal fans.  She could never have kept her enterprises  going this long, based solely on her popularity as a celebrity. Her customers really do like what she’s selling. She’s been promoting her ThighMaster, for example, since the late 90s.

FabOverFifty recently had the opportunity to ask Suzanne about a product she uses every single week, called Crystalift, a microdermabrasion machine that we can easily use at home.

Microdermabrasion is all the rage today with plastic surgeons and aestheticians, who use a “minimally abrasive instrument to gently sand your skin, removing the thicker, uneven outer layer,” according to the website of the American Society of Plastic Surgery.

This type of skin rejuvenation is used to treat light scarring, discoloration, sun damage, and stretch marks, improve age spots and blackheads, reduce fine lines and wrinkles, reduce or eliminate enlarged pores and acne scars. (more…)

A New Skincare Line That’s Like “Liquid Surgery”

The Unfortunate Truth about the Mass Beauty Brands

ellenThe colossal mass skincare brands that throw out obscene amounts of money to market their products to American women, (L’Oreal, for example) could care less about helping FOFs eliminate OUR wrinkles and fine lines. Their TV and magazine ads and commercials, fancy packages, and drugstore displays eat up so much budget that they simply don’t invest in the finest ingredients for their “anti-aging” lotions and potions. CoverGirl may give FOF Ellen DeGeneres millions to tout its Simply Ageless products, but it’s 30 year olds they really want to court. Even beauty chemists who once worked with the big brands have revealed that their hands were tied when it came to the quality of ingredients they could use. And, I heard first-hand about how the big beauty brands operated when I created the CEO Beauty Summit for Women’s Wear Daily and met the men and women who ran them.

The Happy Emergence of “Indie” Beauty Brands

Enter independent beauty brands, many conceived  by FOF women who only use superior ingredients to create products that really do work on aging skin, including their own. And, they get the word out, not by advertising to audiences of all ages on network TV, but by working with bloggers and websites like FabOverFifty, targeted specifically to women 45+. (more…)

JeNu Botox Alternative

botoxI’d been thinking seriously about having Botox and filler injections on my face. I used to be a big proponent of letting age take its course (lots of women call it “aging gracefully”), but now I’m not doing happy dances over the course it’s taken. Anything I can do, within reason, to slow down Mother Ager has my vote.

The injections wouldn’t be a picnic, and they’re expensive, but at least they’re less dramatic than invasive cosmetic surgery. I’ve spent thousands of dollars on creams, lotions, serums and oils over the years, and I know that I could rub a $200 jar of product on my face till the cows come home (and have!). They can only go so far to decrease the effects of aging skin.

So, I was ready to make an appointment for the injections, when a company named JeNu asked me if I’d test its new Ultrasonic Infuser, and give them my honest opinion.

I figured it was worth giving one more non-invasive cosmetic product a shot before resorting to medical solutions. It was a cinch to use JeNu, and it took NO extra time in my skincare routine. First, I applied my moisturizers and serums, as usual. Then I added a pearl-sized drop of exclusive “conducting gel” to the smooth metal head of the small, sleek wand, turned it on, and ran it over a section of my face, a minute at a time. The ultrasound energy transfers through special microspheres (hollow miniscule spheres of protein) in the gel, helping my skin to absorb my skin care products better and faster. (more…)

That’s NOT Where I Wanted To Be Thin!

I assume I’m no different than most women
when it comes to my hair: I’ve had a schizophrenic relationship with it for my entire life (at least
for as long as I remember).

I’ve worn it super short, like Mia Farrow in Rosemary’s Baby.

I let it grow till it reached past my shoulders.
Loathing my endless kinks and ringlets, I subjected them to a Japanese straightening.
Sick and tired of blowing it straight, I let it go crazy curly.

I couldn’t wait to cut bangs, then couldn’t wait till they grew in.
I teased it silly for years and then wore it flat as a pancake.
I cajoled it into a twist and twisted it with rollers.

I tried beehives and braids; flips and pageboys.
I sprayed it until it wouldn’t move, greased it, conditioned, and masked it.

It’s a miracle my hair didn’t decide to leave my head years ago, fed up with my endless abuse!
