Great series…I read the first couple, then listened to the rest. The reader does so great with all the accents and characters. When one can read such huge books and not want them to be over and can’t wait for the next one, it is a great love story!! The love story of the daughter in the later books is interesting too, but not as hot!!

The movie was “Somewhere in Time” but if you’re like me, you’ll love the book it was based on even more, “Bid Time Return” by Richard Matheson. (On second thought, maybe the newer editions of the book are renamed the same as the movie.) The movie music was beautiful, but I thought Christopher Reeve was miscast as the hero. Jane made a very good heroine. One reason I didn’t like the movie was because it was set in Michigan instead of California (Hotel del Coronado) which the book described in detail. But it was a fantastic love story that had me enthralled.
I enjoy reading historical fiction and frequently choose
a mystery. I am currently reading author Jacqueline Winspear’s Maisie Dobbs series set in the period following
WW1 and leading up to WW2- a single woman who
investigates during the depression era.

Just finished reading Cleopatra by Stacy Schiff. It’s one of the most interesting “love” stories of all times.
My favorite love story is the one portrayed in the movie Casablanca, though it’s only a millimeter better than the one in “Gone with the Wind.” I’ve watched Casablanca so many times I could almost recite the dialogue; however, for “GWTW,” as much as I adore Clark Gable, I prefer the book to the movie.

Though I’m a glass-half-full kind of girl, I tend to veer towards love stories that end less than happily. Maybe it’s because there’s nothing like the occasional good cry so clean out the tear ducts. I’m a fan of Graham Greene’s ‘The End of the Affair,’ Flaubert’s ‘Madame Bovary’ (although I suppose there are some who wouldn’t consider that a love story), and, most surely, Fitzgerald’s ‘The Great Gatsby.’ And though even fewer might consider that one a love story, they would be soooooo wrong

We moved to Seattle from New York when my daughter was 4 ( now 26), being a city girl, we had a tough time living in such sub-urban neighborhood. So I decided on my free time to plant strawberries, tomatoes, herbs next to roses in a real garden ( unlike in NY – on the balcony of the apartment in planters). That summer was the best harvest ever! We would go outside pick berries and eat breakfast in bed catch up with each other, recoup, laugh, hug , read or just enjoy being lazy! This became a tradition, now we spend 1 day a week on Sundays just to eat in bed together and look forward to each others family bonding!
Real life provides real love stores unlike any fiction or fantasy. I love your story!

Claire and Jamie Fraser in Diana Gabaldon’s “Outlander” series — she met him by accident when she was sucked thru the standing stones in Scotland to 1750′s Scotland… then went back to present day to have their child, but 20 years later opted to go back. Now, that’s true love!

My favorite love story of all time is Gone With the Wind. It has all the elements that I enjoy: conflict, a handsome couple, historic background, and an unresolved ending.

I just read Loving Frank and was fascinated that such an independent woman would become so attached to a man.

Nicholas Sparks, The Notebook. At the end of a long and love-filled life and family together, his wife has alzheimer’s. Everyday he reads her the story of how they met and fell in love, living for those all-too-fleeting moments when she comes back to him.
Although Anne of Green Gables is a book from my childhood, the romance of Anne and Gilbert is still my favorite because Anne had conflicting goals in her life, which got in the way of the romance, and in that she reminds me of me.
My favorite love story of all time is the love story in The Princess Bride – book and movie – it’s one of the rare movies that does justice to the book.

My fave love story is probably The Notebook by Nicholas Sparks. I have read the book several times as well as seen the movie over and over. Warms my heart each time.
My favorite love stories have some common elements. They are both comedies, they don’t like each other when they meet and then they become best friends before falling in love. “When Harry met Sally” and the “Goodbye Girl”. These movies make you laugh and cry in equal measure. A more recent pick is “Dan in Real Life”. They like each other from the minute they meet but there is an obstacle and a large family to contend with. It is a laugh out loud but heartfelt and real, possible in everyday life.

My favorite love story of all time is that of the Phantom of the Opera… Though I do like Susan Kaye’s writing on the story far better than Gaston Larouix, simply because it handles all the very detailed emotions throughout the lives of the characters. That one book I took to the delivery room with all of my children, great book to completely absorb yourself in and forget the things that pain you!

I love The Notebook by Nicholas Sparks. It is a true test of love and devotion of a man and a woman. Every time I read it the tears freely fall down my face reminding me of what true love is.

As for novels, I don’t think any novel can beat “Gone With the Wind”. Pam seems to combine the love, war, and mystery I am drawn to. I look forward to reading her book.
My all time favorite love story is Dr Zhivago. It is a love story during the begining of the German revolution and through to the end of the Life of Dr Zhivago of Laura and thr trials and tribulations of thier struggle to be together and then to the question if a young lady working after the war is the daughter of Dr. Zhivago. Dr. Zhivago has the most expressive eyes I have ever seen.

He believes in seeing the best in others and therefore helps them to become better people. He loves unconditional and makes no judgements on the one he loves.

One of my favorite love stories of all time is Ronald and Nancy Reagan. You could tell that they were devoted to one another and really loved each other. It almost destroyed her after he got shot and almost died.

call me old fashioned…it is still Scarlett and Rhett, in Gone With the Wind. I can remember sitting in the theater with my mom and seeing it for the very first of many times. And I think I have actually read through it twice.

My favorite love story is that of Dr. Zhivago and Lara. I related so closely to Lara, that when I visited Finland I made ita point to eat at the Russian Teahouse, which was used in one of the scenes in the movie. The struggle that Pastrnak had in getting the book published, the struggle of his characters to just get trough life due to the problems of society in those days – war, separation, death, health, etc., is an intimate look at humanity. I still get chills when I think of the parting of the lovers, and the child he never knew.
My favorite love story of all time is The Notebook. Star-crossed lovers as teens wind up spending their entire lives together and then through the power of their love, they are able to die together. Three boxes of kleenex every time!
I’m partial to Jane Austen, but if I have to pick just one, it’s Pride and Prejudice.
My favorite from 1963 is “Love with the Proper Stranger” with Steve McQueen and Natalie Wood. It is an example that love can grow despite adverse situations.

I have read it twice and seen the movie 4 times and my brain is dead on the name and author of the book. GRRRRRR!!

My favorite love story of all time is Mary and Joseph. A man who would accept a woman in those circumstances and believe in her, would be a wonderful man in a beautiful relationship.
My favorite love story is Dirty Dancing! I love the story between Patrick Swayze and (Baby)Jennifer Grey! It’s such a beautiful coming of age of a young girl growing up at Camp and getting her confidence and finding out who she really is/was! Throw in the fabulous dancing, the music and of course Patrick Swayze! (And the love story in real life between him and his wife was so beautiful!)

Seeing how happy William and Kate are together is the type of love story I most enjoy. They truly seem to be in love.
The Notebook would have to rank very highly on my list of favorites. I really enjoy Rhett and Scarlett but I need to leave the experience with the “happily ever- after” feeling rather than wishing I knew how their lives really turned out.

A real love story between Wyatt Earp and Josephine Markus. Love that as it is real. A love story that was emotional and beautiful was The Winter Rose by Jennifer Donnelly.
My favorite recent love story is Water for Elephants. It shows that love can conquer even the awfulness of Alzheimer’s. In today’s times, we need to hang on to feelings like that! It’s a book that I couldn’t put down. I hope the movie is just as good.
I my favorite love story of all time was the movie Somewhere in Time with Christopher Reeve and Jane Seymour. It’s the story of a young playwright who falls in love with the portrait of a woman hanging in the Grand Hotel. Through a form of self-hypnosis he travels back in time to 1912 to meet this woman who he has become so enamored of.

My favorite love story of all time was “The Notebook” I loved the story and at the end it made me cry.
My favorite love story of all is Gone With The Wind. The passion in that movie is unforgettable and Clark Gable is still my favorite. I must have watched that movie at least twenty times.
I’m not a big fan of love stories. I think most of them border on obcession. I do, however, believe in true love. I think “pretty woman” is my favorite. I’m always rooting for the underdog. This book sounds interesting and not your usual story.

In 2009 they reunited after over 50 years apart, she lives in Oklahoma and we are in California, they talk everyday and they have both traveled back and forth to be with each other.

I have many favorite love stories and one of my favorites is “Nights in Rodanthe”. I love all of Nichols Sparks books, he is a fantastic author.
My favorite love story is AN AFFAIR TO REMEMBER. The movie version starred Cary Grant and Deborah Kerr. It never ceases to remind me that acts of kindness and unselfish love will triumph in the end.

And then the casting for the movie leaving Omar Sharif to choose between Geraldine Chaplin and Julie Christie was impossible, even for me! And the sight of the little mandolin still breaks my heart.

I know this is a different love story but it is my favorite of all time. The Oasis: A Memoir of Love and Survival in a Concentration Camp is one of the most moving and courageous love stories I have ever read. It is also inspiring. I found it in the book store at the Holocaust Museum in Washington. I admit that stories of the holocaust are close to my heart and this one makes you realize just how powerful love can be.
Without a doubt, my favorite love story of all time is that of Dr. Zhivago and Lara. Who can resist a love that stands the tests of time, marriage to others and the Russian Revolution?

This may be an odd answer – but I’m struck this week with the love between Jaycee Dugard and her mother. We all love our mothers… but her remembered love sustained Jaycee through 18 years of unspeakable cruelty. Her abduction also meant that she and her mother did not experience the teenage strife that many moms and daughters go through. Their relationship is even more precious to them now.

One of my favorites is The Bridges of Madison County.
My favorite Love Story is that of Rhett and Scarlett in ‘Gone With The Wind’. Although it takes her years to realize he’s her true love, and although their entire world comes collapsing around them, you just know at the end that she will find him and their love will prevail. After all, he’s ‘Always Been A Sucker For Lost Causes…Especially After They’re Truly Lost’. So many folks watch this movie and never understand that the key to this story is in what he says when he leaves her behind on the road to Tara and goes to join up with the Army at the very end of the war; but it’s all right there in that little speech.
My favorite love story is “Splendor in the Grass”. This was written as a screenplay and stared Natalie Wood and Warren Beatty. It was about young love and how strong and powerful those feelings can be. It was also about depression and it’s highs and lows; how destructive and paralyzing it can be when coupled with the strong emotional powers of love and being too young to understand it.

My favorite love story of all time is Scarlet Ohara’s Gone with the wind. I loved reading about the south and how wealthy people lived and treated each other and their help. I hope I win I would love to learn more about the German Commanders and how they treated people. I also want to find out how the missing antique clock holds the answer to this story and the people in it.

When I was fourteen, I found an old copy of MARJORIE MORNINGSTAR on a bookshelf in our summer cabin. The pages were yellowed and fragile as I turned the, some of the corners ripped and sepia-stained. It smelled like dust and summer afternoons. I took my treasure out to the front porch swing and through that long, lazy August, I got lost in the pages of Marjorie’s love for Noel, and Wally’s for her. Years later, as a twenty-something theater/dance major, and even now in my “slightly older” life, I will open the pages of that book and recall the expectations of my own romantic youth, the desire for someone to long for a “second kiss” from me… “under the lilacs”. My original copy became so battered and held together by rubber bands, that last Christmas, my husband and son found another copy for me in a used book store. It will always be one of my most prized gifts.
My all-time favorite love story was An Affair To Remember. I even liked the book better than the wonderful film!

Dr. Zhivago – It was a beautiful, touching movie that showed the depth of love he had for Lara and the ending was particularly sad and so moving that it brought me to tears.
I love Karen Blixen’s story of her love, Denys, in OUT OF AFRICA. The movie did justice to her portrayal in the book and was a rich tapestry of the inner workings in a relationship where both people are outstanding individuals and still with flaws to overcome or deal with in ways that would either preserve or destroy the relationship.

My favorite love stories are Gone With The Wind and and old one called The Two Loves of Jenny Logan with Lindsay Wagner. She puts on an old wedding dress she finds in the attic and goes back in time and falls in love and finally ends up in that time period.
Terms of Endearment
I was reading Bridges of Madison County on a flight from Anchorage to San Francisco when the book first came out; I cried so much that the flight attendant brought me tissues. She hadn’t read the book, yet, but was planning to and I know that she did.
Every time the movie Bridges of Madison County is on TV I watch what I have time to but always, always cry, most especially when it’s raining and Meryl Streep is in the truck with her husband and sees Clint Eastwood in his truck. Her hand is on the door handle and she wants so very much to be with Clint and the magic of a new and exciting love, the part of her heart that loves her husband and family wins the battle and she stays. OMGosh! I cry just thinking about it!
I think, perhaps, many women can relate to this story, feeling special and beautiful and wanted by an exciting new fellow, a stark contrast to the man we’ve been married to for twenty years or so, the one who loves us but because of our longtime history isn’t the spark in our heart that we long for and dream of. Still and all, when given the opportunity to walk away from that history, the routine and comfortable love, we most often choose to stay. Wondering, then and forever, what might have been.

My favorite film love story is “The Way We Were” with Robert Redford. It also has barbara Streisand in it, who I think is overrated over emotional and who I generally cannot stand, but she was bearable in this. Redford was gorgeous and real and I love the movie, although I would have preferred someone else opposite him.

This may be controversial to say, but Brokeback Mountain was my all-time favorite love story, and I’m even heterosexual. Those guys felt it just as deeply as any of us, and it was a profoundly passionate, caring and even a tragic love story. I watched it at least 10 times to learn from that love.

My favorite love story was “remembrance” by Danielle Steele. I have reread that book seven times. I love the story of a young Italian women falling in love with an Army Officer. Maybe because I feel in love with an Army Officer!
I’m not sure I have a favorite love story. Now that I am older, my life experiences and my view of love have changed. I just saw “Summertime” with Kathryn Hepburn and Rosano Brazzi (sp?) and there was a poignancy there that really moved me. She will have memories that she will cherish forever, no matter what may follow this trip. We all need those moments to remember….I also love the classic Jane Eyre. It is timeless to me.

My favorite love story of all time is the one I am living currently. It isn’t a fabulous romance between a man and a woman. It’s the love of a daughter to a son, a legacy well thought out and sacrifices made to ensure that he would have the life she couldn’t give him. Through her choice of adoption I was given a new family and am sharing the love of my life with my grandson and his new family who also adopted me. The entire story is fabulous!
My grandparents who were both immigrants who spoke german and had huge families. They waited many years to marry because my grandma’s mom died and she stayed home to raise the younger siblings. Grandpa built her a house while they waited. Their love was so deep. She cared for him at home until she could not help him, he only lived another couple of days. She stayed in the home he built her until the day she died. That was love.

The answer to this for me MUST be the love story portrayed in the movie “The Way We Were” starring Barbra Streisand and Robert Redford. The two characters fall deeply in love despite their differences, but circumstances cause an eventual divorce. In the film’s final scene, Katie (Barbra) and Hubbell (Redford) meet by coincidence, several years after their divorce, in front of the Plaza Hotel in New York City. They stare at one another longingly, and she then brushes the hair from his forehead. They embrace, the music swells….and we get to feel all the promise and sadness, love and regret of a failed relationship. That one scene is brilliant…..touching, bittersweet and just melts my heart every time I watch it.

I almost forgot the bitter sweet love story in the Prince Of Tides. When she realizes that he will always do the honorable thing and return to his family. But they will always have their memories. Such a tragedy!
My favourite love story is “Love Story”. However my most cherished novel about a father’s love for his children and the truth, would be Harpur Lee’s “To Kill a Mocking Bird”.

I also liked the relationship in the old TV series Hart to Hart – they seemed crazy about each other even after years of marriage… of course they were fabulously rich too… so I’ll add the relationship between the parents in Little House on The Prairie – they seemed crazy about each other and were very poor

I have 2 favorites “Beaches” with the wonderful Bette Midler and “Steel Magnolias” made great by the wonderful cast!!! Love does not have to be between a man and woman (or same sex); seeing the love of strong characters for each other is just as powerful.
I remember a movie I saw in the late 70′s that has stayed with me all these years. “Griffin and Phoenix” starring Peter Falk and Jill Clayburgh. Talk about a love story and tear jerker!! My favorite love story of all time is the Outlander series by Diana Gabaldon. I love this series because we get to see Jamie and Claire meet, fall in love, separate, reunite, face ALL types of obstacles, and age….I have never read a love story where I see the characters age together in a series of books.

My favorite love story is SARATOGA TRUNK by Edna Ferber. The book was made into a movie with the same name starring Gary Cooper and Ingrid Bergman. I highly recommend it!

My favorite love story of all times just ended a week ago following the very unexpected death of the love of my life. I have been single for a very long time following a nasty divorce. I met a wonderful man 20 years my senior, who I decided to let share a piece of my heart with. We had enjoyed a wonderful week of vacation!!! My first morning returning to work I woke up early to get a head start on the day. After a couple of hours, time was getting near that I needed to depart for work. My “sweetheart” was still sleeping. I decided to go ahead and wake him and let him know I was leaving. That was when I discovered to my horror that he had past away during the night. I love him and will forever miss him!!!
I am so sorry for your loss. I too went through a nasty divorce. I was never going to marry again! Then I met the love of my life, who happens to be 20 years my senior. I had no idea how old he was when I fell in love with him. When he found out how old I was, he tried to leave, but he came back after a short absence. We have been married for 20 years now and he just celebrated his 71st birthday. I am so afraid that your horrible experience will be mine someday. I lost my son-in-law and my Mom and an Aunt in this past year, it has been a hard year. I also celebrated my 50th birthday this year. I hope I can live my life to it’s fullest without worrying about who is going to leave me next. I just wanted to let you know how your comment moved me. Again, you have my deepest sympathies.

This may be an odd choice, when I was a young teen I first read “Seventeen” & it delighted me. Last year on vacation I found it @ a tag sale, bought it & read it again. I still liked it just as much. What a classic & so well written.

Gone With the Wind will always be my favorite period love story. In the last year my father, uncle, two cousins, next door neighbor and several friends have passed away. Most days I still find it hard to just get up and breath. If nothing else I have learned to rethink the things that are most important to me. It would be interesting to read a book that would deal with the same topic of surviving. To see how someone else makes it through a unthinkable period and still be able to love.

My favorite love story is Far From the Madding Crowd by Thomas Hardy. I once sent a Valentine’s card to a complete stranger, because the main character, Bathsheba Everdine, sent a marraige proposal in a Valentine to a sworn bachelor. Bathsheba’s recipient fell head over heals in love. My man in question didn’t fall quite so hard, but I did have a two year relationship with him.
How difficult to choose. My favorites run neck to neck but are stories of star-crossed lovers or those facing obstacles such as West Side Story’s Tony and Maria or Lara and Zhivago. Both worthy contenders.
Dr. Zhivago is my favorite love story and an excellent piece of historical fiction! It is my favorite because it was my first love story to read!

My all time favorite Love Story is without a doubt “Gone With the Wind” Vivien Leigh and Clark Gable were at their best in this masterpeice. I loved Scarlett O’Hara, she was a woman with spirit and a strong will to survive, even though she was immature and spoiled, she was also fiercely protective and loyal. Rhett Butler and Scarlett were two characters that were so strong willed, when he stopped loving her to me it was then she realized how much she does love him, this love story pulls you in. Granted there was racisism but it was true to the time and told in Margaret Mitchells Novel just the way it was. This Novel is my all time favorite love story, the best line for me was “Frankly my Dear, I don’t give a Damn” Love it!! I could go on forever, in short, “Gone With the Wind” is a must read. This is such a complex love story you cannot put it down, thank you Margaret Mitchell for a Masterpeice of true love.
I love the movie Sommersby, starring Richard Gere & Jody Foster. While the heroine lost her love he sacrificed for her to keep her respectable and able to continue in a time that was not favourable to women having lovers rather than a husband. Some intense moment here….
I would have to say The Notebook. The characters love endures many hardships and joy over the years. The commitment to teach other until the end was very moving.

My favorite love story of all time is “Dr. Zhivago”. The book, though long, is riveting in its’ portrayal of Lara and Yuri as star-crossed lovers. And while I usually don’t think movies of novels are as good as the books themselves, this one was wonderful, with Julie Christie and Omar Sharif in the lead roles.
My favorite love story of all time is West Side Story. I was very young when I watched the movie and became aware of racial differences that people had. I look at people at face value, to me it is not where you came from but who you are as a person. It has impacted my life for the better.

I love Historical fiction! I read the wonderful book -SEEDS OF SARAH_ which was a historical novel dealing with the Holocaust based on truth. I taught a segment on the Holocaust with several novels starting with of course, THE DIARY OF ANNE FRANK.
The selections from BUTTERFLIES ARE FREE detailed some of the emotions that were felt by so many of the young people during that time. Love stories abound in life, even when death is close at hand.

I’ve always loved Roman Holiday starring Gregory Peck and Audrey Hepburn.
The film fulfilled every young girl’s fantasy. You have a young princess longing to live a few days as an ordinary citizen. She meets and falls in love with an American photograper. She knows their love could never be. She has her holiday with the photographer and his friend.
The princess never tells the photographer that she’s a princess. He finds out when he goes to the palace in Rome to cover the story of the Princess visiting Rome. He’s shocked and looks at her with such love and longing.
It’s truly a beautiful story.

A love affair that is destined to go nowhere can be found in my all time favorite “Marjorie Morningstar”. Not only the book but then you get the movie and I could not stop crying. Of course with Gene Kelly and Natalie Wood as lovers?

My first thought is “Gone With the Wind.” Considering the scope and popularity of the movie, I would think this is the greatest love story “of all time.”
The Notebook…so sad but so romantic! This story is Groundhog Day with a mix of Alzheimers. Buckets of tears…but what a love story. The husband goes to such great lengths to remind his ailing wife of their love story, everyday!

My favorite love story of all time would have to be “Enchanted” (2007), starring Amy Adams and Patrick Dempsey. I thought I was in the wrong movie at first when it started out ‘animated’; however, it was a smooth transition of characters into the ‘real-life’ world (non-animated) of New York City. Cute, absolutely hilarious, and such a great love story jerking our emotions and showing how two ordinary women could both get dreams fulfilled – without really doing anything special – - other than being themselves. How could one not love you for simply being “YOU”?! I’m still singing the songs “That’s How You Know” (and someone else is too with over 8.7 million hits on youtube!) and “So Close” by Jon McLaughlin. It’s a must see if you haven’t seen it.

My favorite all-time love story is “Love Story” and all other stories that involve many things/situations that work to strip two people apart only o be thwarted by the true and meaningful love they hold. My own life right now is kind of a mirror of that kind of love (without the deadly illness, though).

Serious love stories would be Gone With The Wind and Somewhere In Time. But I also love Pretty Woman and The Princess Bride.
The one I can watch over and over is The Princess Bride.

I have so many favorites…hard to pick! But I loved Love Story…a classic….and I loved Message in a Bottle. I always cry through them both.
My favorite love story is the story of my parents. They’ve lived a 62 year love story so far. As neighbors in the small steel mill town Sparrows Point, they had always known one another, but their story really began when my Mom saw a photo of a young airman in her best friend’s wallet and asked who it was. Mom’s friend informed her that it was his cousin, Norman, who had changed a bit since Mom had last seen him. Mom decided then and there that they would be married one day, and five years later they were! The love story has continued ever since, and I could tell a dozen more stories about it, but this will have to do for now. I’ll tell you the rest when we meet!

I could answer this is several ways. My favorite movie love story would be “An Affair to Remember”. I love many based on historical truth. Mary Higgins Clark wrote a novel a few years back based on George and Martha Washington’s lives: MOUNT VERNON LOVE STORY. I loved the stories that Lucy Maud Montgomery wrote based on the Anne of Green Gables series (living within 5 hours of PEI helped visualize the books also). Anne Frank’s short life story was also filled with a romance that was albiet short-lived. I adore reading and mysteries are my favorite, but I will read most anything I can get my hands on!
