I’m having a difficult time choosing the right home for my dad. How do we know when it’s a good fit?

Great questions guys! Alex – I encourage you to sign up for my checklist which takes you though all the options of retirement home living and makes sure you aren’t missing anything! Beth – families are very complicated. I would suggest using a third party to mediate your situation with your sister or also use a care plan that you both sit down and plan and then implement. Laurie – I couldn’t agree more! Making a move before they need to prevents so many things including stress and health issues. smfsprout – This is something I see continually. I suggest that there many be things that you will need to outsource in order for your relationship to stay intact like grooming for example. It is best for both parties. Trying to keep your relationship from reversing is very difficult and requires you to step back and evaluate your involvement and if it’s crossing lines.

I need advice on how to relate to the parents as an adult caretaker, when they will forever see me as their child.
