Fantastic Opportunity Fortunately
"I have been taking water color classes for the last 3 to 4 years and would welcome the opportunity to soak up this training like a sponge. My love of art (watercolor esp.) is equalled by my enthusiasm for the chance to learn more. Yoga would be a new challenge but exercise is part of my regular routine so this would be a welcome addition as well."

Coincidence...?
"I've been working 7 days a week, struggling to have time to draw, paint and stretch artistically. This is exactly on point with my lifetime goal to travel the world and explore different mediums and learn from gifted artists. I'm self taught, and would absolutely rejoice in the total immersion, concentrated training, clean eating, yoga mornings, and kindred spirits! I've painted entire cities in one piece -San Francisco included - and pray that Anna might inspire me to "paint with a bigger brush!""

The mountains of Western Washington are just an inspiration and would hopefully motivate me a good beginner and the morning yoga classes would invigorate my mind!"

Thank you Fab/50 for this opportunity.
"In June I attempted to sign up for Anna Rhodes' August retreat and actually spoke with Anna, however auto problems took all of my savings. I have begun saving again but it will be next year before I can attend one of her retreats. I went to Art school in the early 90's at the Art Institute of Seattle and I have allowed the fear of success to keep me from drawing and painting until recently as I worked through learning that my perceptions might not always be the right ones. Working with an energy healer, I have picked up the pencil and began to practice drawing portraits and had wanted to attend one of Anna Rhodes' workshops to be immersed in creative energy and get invaluable art direction. This would be a such a gift and I would be incredibly humbled if I received it. Thank you for realizing the value of creativity and giving a gift of an opportunity to grow in a beautiful and nurturing setting with such an extraordinary artist."

Afraid to be creative
"I have always wanted to be artistic and creative. However, when I tried art class in High School, I was told that I probably should ensure my math and english homework came first!!! I enjoy looking at what others have created, and wonder why I cannot come up with similar ideas to theirs and have the ability to create lovely things as others have done.... I also love the idea of Yoga each morning! It is a great way to start the day, and one I don't do often enough. This retreat would be a great chance for me to learn and experience how creativity can be nurtured and grown in my life. And I think that would help me to be a better person in the long run."

I raised two children (single mom) and have now retired due to my company's acquisition. Deferred dreams...
"When I was in elementary school, I used to draw all the time. I concentrated on faces, particularly eyes - I always wanted to capture the soul. I also used to draw a figure of a girl wearing my designs. I took a lot of criticism from my classmates because of that. i was criticized for always drawing the same things and was told that I wasn't a real artist. Sadly, this took an awful toll on me. I always thought that I was talented and artsy; my father was a self-taught artist and I wanted to follow in his footsteps. Somehow, somewhere, I lost myself and gave it up. Lately, I have thought a lot about my art. My children have great potential and skill with drawing. How wonderful it would be to discover the artist that I left behind so many years ago..."

"I was very into Art in high school and college and then life got in the way. As a single mom there wasn't much time left for painting and drawing and the Artist in me has laid dormant for many years now. What a wonderful opportunity this would be for me... after visiting Anna's website it stirred up many old memories of my passion for painting and how much I have missed it. "I wish someone would invent A way to paint for my rent A landscape would buy you 8 days surcease A portrait is two weeks on comfortable sheets An abstract that makes you chortle and laugh should get you about a month and a half Think of the years for a detailed church ceiling But wouldn't it then be almost like stealing? For when my brush touches paper I step inside the house where my heart opens, willfull and wide. "

Artist trip
"My husband, Dominick, and I have never had a real honeymoon and we have been married for 42 years as of June 29, 2010. This would be a perfect relaxing retreat for us. While we were taking courses at the University of South Carolina at Columbia SC, starting in 2004 we took some theater courses to meet the graduation requirements. He did that for me because even though he is rather good I really do not have much talent in that area. I received my BA in Anthropology (focus on Archeology) on May 9, 2009, but he is still working toward his degrees in History and Anthropology. Oh and did I mention we are both 62 years young!!!! Thanks for this opportunity. "

An Inquisitive Yet Fearless Beginner...
"I'm more than a little bit intrigued by the idea of exploring the dormant artist in me with such a talented teacher in majestical surroundings. For some reason I'm reminded of a modern day version of the movie, A Room with a View. But after reading all the comments posted by other FOF's in hopes of winning this amazing package, I realized there are quite a few women that truly deserve an escape and the opportunity to study with Ms. Rhodes. It makes me wish we could all have greater access to artistic retreats that will nurture our minds, bodies and spirits. That said, even if I'm not chosen, I feel as if I've found an experience worthy of my newly created bucket list and hope to meet you at a future retreat. Paris maybe? One can dream. "

I've dreamed of an opportunity like this
"For as long as I can remember I have had a passion to paint in watercolor, but my parents discouraged me from anything having to do with art. Over the last 25 years, I've always been busy with either schooling or my children. My daughter began college last year and my son will be a senior this year and so I could actually go on a retreat like this now. When I couldn't paint, I would read, so I've read hundreds of books on watercolor. I also watched videos in bed, a little every night before I'd go to sleep. I have been able to complete about 10 paintings over this time, working at night or before the children were up. This would be the dream of a lifetime to get to actually, seriously delve into painting, away from all the responsibilities that pull on me here at home, and I'd LOVE getting live feedback, to find out my strengths and weaknesses, and to strengthen my belief in myself as an artist. You can't imagine how wonderful it would be for me to be able to have this sort of experience!"

Creativity yearning to be expressed
"I work at a computer all day crunching numbers. It's a good job, but I've felt the need to express myself creatively for a long time and never quite known what to do about it. The retreat would be the perfect way to begin to find my creative voice. The refreshing natural surroundings would help get me out of my usual left-brain mode into a more open state of mind. Most important, I would use what I learn at the retreat for the rest of my life, growing and expanding my artistry wherever I go. "

LifeRefreshed
"It has been said that when life offers you lemons, make lemonade. Sometimes it's hard to see the upside of a career in film and television when the company you've worked for for a decade goes belly up. But I think I've turned the corner. Friends are always there to help, but I'm astounded by the many colleagues who are only too glad to help with new projects for no more compensation than a "glad I could do it." In turn, my new production company is there to help too - college students in this case - and I now feel I'm on a much better path than I ever was in the work-a-day corporate world."

My true passion
"Most everyone has a hard luck story and I am no different. I have worked hard since the age of 15 to help out my mother. I left home early because home life was so dysfunctional. Forced to marry to an undesirable man, though it was short lived, I had a beautiful daughter. Had one great love affair, but totally screwed it up. Married again, but not for love, just for the sake of my child. After 4 years, divorce was inevitable. My sister killed herself, so I went to take care of her kids. I had 3 kids and no help. One attacked my daughter so I had to send him off to some other family member. Now, I had 2 kids and $600 a month to support them in a one horse town! I was becoming very ill. I had to move to Phoenix, just to find work as a dancer in order to support my kids. If anything could go wrong, it did. My illness kept progressing, but no one could figure out what was wrong. I finally found someone I could love and married and he fell off the wagon and was back on crack cocaine. I had never seen anyone on this stuff. He stole my money while I slept and clean out my bank accounts. When that wasn't enough, he stole my car and blew the engine. We were engaged, but that pretty much broke the engagement. I was now broke, extremely ill and at my wits end. I was soon going to be on the street with 2 kids. Then I met husband number 3, who married me in order to give me medical insurance. He knew I wasn't in love with him, but was willing to still marry me. It wasn't until the actual date of the wedding that I actually said yes. We had a chapel wedding with no witnesses and we were in our jeans and t-shirts. We went on to Fiji the same day. I became violently ill as soon as the plane left. By the time we were coming back, the plane wanted to have an ambulance meet us at the airport in LAX, but we lived in Phoenix. I said I could wait, since we couldn't afford a layover. I did end up in the hospital and found out after 3 months that I have several autoimmune problems. That over 14 years ago. I was in the middle of school, going for my BFA and I was painting prolifically, but since I have been chronic pain 24/7 for the last 14 years, I have not been able to paint or finish my schooling. I did my schooling at UNLV and Univ. of Hawaii; I ended up getting at least my AA from U of H. An event like this would be a dream come true. I am only 46, but I may not be around to see 50. I hope I am, but I am going to seize every moment I can. After 14 years in bed, I have finally been able to get out and start a road to better health. I won't be cured, but there is help. And for those who may be worried, what I have is not contagious. My immune system is just in overdrive and doesn't like any of my good or bad bacteria. It has robbed me of a lot of life and I want some of it back Thanks for reading this, Gabrielle H. "

Help me find myself????
"I think that going to this retreat would be taking me out of my box, taking me out of my comfort zone. I am 54 and I want to find "me" again, not Mom, not Nana, just me. I have taken a couple of Bob Ross classes, I know not in the same category, but I did really enjoy them. I loved Art back in the day. I would like to reconnect with my inner self and think this would be a chance in a lifetime, so please consider me. Thank you "

Paint My Life Goal
"I've always been a frustrated artist. I would certainly love to have some professional training. I started out as an art major in college, but didn't get far. I changed to a business major. It was less affected by my moods. I'd love to have the opportunity to once again go for my artistic side and express my goals for the future in art."

To Discover a Passion
"I want to discover my passion. In high school art class I once did a watercolor painting. I loved it and have often thought I'd like to try it again. I feel that everyone needs a creative outlet, painting, sewing, woodworking - something we can do that lets us express ourselves. I feel its especially important as we age to nurture our creativity and find something we can feel passionate about. I would love the opportunity to learn from a professional such as Anna."

Artistic Motherly Comrades in Arms
"Reading these eloquent responses reminded me of the fact that every single one of my close female friends is divorced and have raised children on their on. we did so with each other's help at the sacrifice of more of our professional artistically creative natures, 'robbing Peter to pay Paul' to pay for children's lessons and necessities. Anna's website photos were calming and nurturing in and of themselves. I can only imagine how loving an environment it will for us if we are chosen to enjoy such an enriching weekend. Please choose us for this once in a lifetime experience? Thanks, Patricia"

The WHY of ME at Anna's Retreat in 100 Words
"I close my eyes and imagine that this retreat would be inspiring, breathtaking and rejuvenating. Yoga, art and organic food are some of my favorite things to do, paint, and cook or eat. Honing my skills with such an accomplished artisan as Anna would be an honor. The tension in my back could easily be soothed by the proximity of mountains as compared to the ninety-nine degree heat I endure in my current habitat. I am a woman, daughter and wife but would just like to be a relaxed artist for a weekend! There%u2019s my 100 word justification. Pick me!"

What a blessing this would be!
"Oh my, I would so love to participate in this Artist Retreat with Anna Rhodes! The Harmony Hill Retreat Center holds a special place in my heart as I attended a retreat five years ago for people newly diagnosed with cancer. It was a soulful, soothing, life-changing experience. This incredibly beautiful and healing place is a perfect setting for an art retreat. I have been longing to take a class with Anna Rhodes for a few years now. She seems to have a deep understanding of art and people and creating. Whenever I receive an email announcing a new retreat with her I get so excited. I just haven%u2019t been able to attend due to both illness and financial restrictions. I am recovering...yay! and feeling strong and vibrant now, at almost 52. I have always been a visual person and the muse has often pulled me to do art here and there but it has often taken a back seat. My cancer put it where it belongs%u2026in the front seat. I have a renewed commitment to honoring my creativity in all its forms. It has been transformational for me and for my health. Truly! I can imagine that an Artist%u2019s Retreat with Anna Rhodes would be the replenishment I need to continue to heal and create a life of beauty. I have started making shrines that I sell in stores and also create custom shrines for people going through various transitions or milestones in their lives. The skills I would learn at the Artist Retreat would be incorporated into my work and shared with many. Thank you so much for this opportunity! Beth Reiter "

"This would be the much needed ultimate birthday getaway (my birthday is August 2nd. I love art and feel the urge to be creative; I am a beginner though. Just being in that environment would be extremely encouraging. Although, I have always been active (exercising, walking, tap/spiritual/ African and show dancing) I am being treated for high blood pressure and Jan. 2009 had a heart attack (no surgery, not disabled); so this trip would provide more peace & great relaxation in addition to adding to my creativity. HELP WANTED: Sporadic Lifetime Artist Needs Rejuvenating
"I have been an artist since early childhood. Even now, at almost 70, remember clearly the first real compliment on my art that I received from an outsider--a professional artist who visited our class for one day to teach us 6 year olds' about art. I remember her telling us, "Don't tell me you can't draw a straight line. If you want a straight line, use a ruler. But, there's nothing interesting about a straight line." Since then, I have sporadically rekindled the "art spark" and taken a few classes and drawn, painted, created. I so loved the feeling of escape and refreshment I felt after losing myself in art. But, like so many others, life interfered--children, career, space, time and, more lately, grandchildren. I want to learn again how to "escape" and enter the right side of my brain. I am ready now to begin a life for ME. This retreat would be perfect for rejuvenating the artistic side of my brain, for giving me the relaxing "break" I need from day to day life in an absolutely georgeous setting, for the refreshing body and mind treatment of yoga and organic foods and for once again "jump starting" my efforts in art and creating. Now that my grandchildren are grown and I have retired, I will have the time and energy to devote time each day to my art. "

The word "art" is found in "retreat"
" I find I don't venture into using my artistic talents much due in part to the time it takes my mind to "retreat" into that place where I can do my best work. It takes a while to get there, and when I do, I just focus on the work. I don't worry about how it looks as I begin, I don't mind undoing what I don't like and starting again, I focus in and in and it becomes a process that happens to end into a piece of finished work. A retreat would certainly provide the physical and mental space to be creative and learn techniques that I could use at home. I would hope that such a retreat would create sufficient inspiration to keep up artistic activities at home."

"In HS art provided me with a sense of confidence and accomplishment that I had not experienced. Life and three children side tracked my interest. CT. College and Lyme Art Academy reinstilled the 'hot stuff' mentality upon completion of a piece and made me smile. Again, life stepped in and it has not been 15 yrs. since I have escaped in art. I recently purchased a desk and equipped myself in order to create holiday gifts for my very large family. This recession is prompting me back to a great escape and a much needed desire to produce and accomplish. "I have spent the first half of my life doing what everyone else told me to do, making safe choices. I've been really unhappy working in offices or in retail, not feeling confident enough to put my creative self on the line. Every career inventory I've ever taken has indicated I need to be an artist of some type. A few months ago I finally got the nerve up to show one of my sketch books to the head of the Art Department at the local college. He thinks I've got the chops, so I need - yes NEED - to be doing things that bring my skills along. To be able to attend this retreat would not only be helpful to developing my technique, but it would also nourish my spirit. I'm 51. Used to enjoy painting landscapes but got into designs and graphics after high school. Haven't had a nice vacation for quite some time, and haven't picked up a paint brush since my business partner died last year. She was always my motivation. Reviving the Art in Me
"My father is an artist and because of him I attended a technical high school specializing in Commercial Art. I missed out on several job opportunities during that time because I am a female so I let my art go to the wayside until I started working at the Yellow Pages Dept. I had the opportunity to be creative in the Publishing Dept. and that revived the artist in me and inspired my daughter who has been drawing since the age of three to become a Graphic Designer. She looked at some of my work and started showing her creative side. To have the opportunity to get back to painting and to continue to inspire my children and grandchildren by showing them you are never to old to live out your dream would be one of the major highlights in my live."

Finally learning art
"I went all the way thru grade 12 of a small rural school district without every having an art class of any kind. In college I majored in Business as a "night student" working my way thru college and again had no art class. I am now in my sixties and I so enjoy going to museums and looking at the paintings and wishing I could do something like that. I see beautifiul sunsets and landscapes every day and wish I knew how to even start to make something about it artwise. I can in my mind see myself in art studio painting beautiful sunsets, buildings and people. Right now I have the time to learn but I am currently unemployed so do not have the finances to take classes with. It would be great to win this not only for the trip and meeting Anna but to really learn to do somekind of creative art."

Unknown Passion
"I recently returned to school after 25 years as a Paralegal to get my degree in Interior Design. I didn't make the connectin that the school I chose was called the Art Institute meant that I would actually required to take art classes! I have never considered myself to be artistic but after these few beginner classes, I have become hooked. I would relish the opportunity of having some real art instruction to see if I could develop this unknown passion, I know it would significantly impact my future as a designer in a way I never would have imagined"

Not for me...
"...but for my sister. She's the artist and I would love her to go because she wouldn't do this for herself. She is the keeper of the sandwich generation- takes care of her grand daughters while keeping watch over mom and dad. She is a hero, not to mention being "the creative one." Mom says LIFE is art to me. So, we will leave it to Patty to put it on canvas."

Stacking Rocks
"Since the birth of my grandson 19 months ago, all of my free time has gone into the joys of being a grandmother. Recently, I found that, although my nuturing side is very satisfied, my creative side is feeling a bit neglected. During a walk the other day, I found myself stacking rocks in interesting towers and realized that the artist in me is alive and well and needing some attention. "

To experience is to learn
"These past few years, as I began to enter my mid-life, I wondered if my life would continue to just 'go on.'...... I had gotten a divorce, had a long post-marriage relationship, and found myself very single, an empty nester, and searching for something fun and out of reach for ME. I have found myself "itching" to be creative, have thought for awhile about art classes, but never thought of myself as artisitic.... This would be a challenge, something outside of my ' idea of myself '... I would truly enjoy the chance to share learning and ideas with other women and hopefully learn to expess some of my thoughts on canvass. This sounds like a wonderful experience...."

30 years as an art teacher, wants to be student again!
"I've spent the past 30 years teaching art to students in grades 5-12. Seven years ago my beloved 19 year old daughter, Katie, was killed in a car accident. I retired from teaching and poured my feelings into my art. (www.lindastauffer.com)I opened the Katie Stauffer Memorial Art Center (www.katiestauffer.org) in Quakertown in 2004 to share the joy of art with my community. It would be a joy to become a student again and learn from someone like Anna Rhodes."

If only I could be an artist like my mother.
"My mother passed away last July 24th. She was an accomplished artist. She had the talent since she was a very young girl. I have since acquired my mother's easel, brushes and supplies. I do not have the natural talent like my mother did, but maybe with the proper training, I could draw and or paint beautiful things like my mother did. I do love to craft and would love to paint. This would be a wonderful opportunity for me to learn. By the way, October 22 is my birthday. This could be two gifts in one. Hopefully, I will be picked as the winner."

What an opportunity!
"My mother forwarded this opportunity to me knowing that my artistic passion has increased over the years. I took my mother to the Ojai Spa for Mother's Day last year and we attended an art class together. It was the most fun I have had in years! I enjoy home decor design and really surprised myself with some frameable eclectic art created at the Ojai Spa. I have been in the IT profession for over 30 years focused on my analytical side. Now on a forced break from the corporate world, I have decided that it is time for me to explore my artistic side and focus on my quality of life. I would truly love the opportunity to attend the retreat, network with artists and cultivate my love of art."

Adding Layers!!
"Just came home from the 1st day of a 3 day professional development/institue for teaching artists. As a teaching artist of dance/theater I am thrilled that I am taking time for ME and doing the workshop. Today at the workshop we did an exercise on notation and many people were very visual - I notate very differently. However, it inspired me to treat myself to another type of workshop and spend some time studying visual arts as it would add another layer to my teaching artist work, my own creative work and my growth as a human "becoming"."

Artistic Side
"Wow, reading through the comments I see so many of us have a similar story of creativity set side aside or ignored in favor of the more "practical" choices of a "real career". How many truly gifted women hid their light under a bushel in order to be a responsible parent/wage earner/care taker? I too know the frustration of putting pen, paint and glue aside in favor of going to work, cleaning up and being a mom-taxi. I sewed clothes for the kids instead of the beautiful quilts of my dreams. I wrote grocery list and helped with essays versus conversations with characters of screenplays and novels. Now four of five darling children have grown and flown the coup. Even with my son homeschooling for 6th grade, I expect to have more time than I've had in years to be the creative person I truly am. A retreat would be an amazing experience, no distractions, interruptions, no stopping to make a meal! I think this would be a perfect way to set a track for the coming year(s). What heaven! I could even dust off my unused yoga mat and bring it! This summer I organized my collage, knitting & crochet, and updated my computer for a planned year of creative exploration. "

A Dream that I have not given up on.
" It has always been a dream of mine to do something like this. My life has been very full of helping others. For the past years I have ask God to use me to be a blessing to others. This has become my focus in life. I have been working in mission work in Kenya for the past six years, not as a full time missionary, but standing with and supporting a woman there who runs a orphanage , works with widows and the Massai tribe. I do public speaking in her behalf and do fund raising for our work there. Although I do not live in Kenya, I feel like I walk hand and hand with Mrs. Lucy on these ventures. I go to Kenya to encourage her as much as I can. I use to do oil paintings but I have never really developed my talents. I was never able to attend College but I made sure that my children could. One day maybe I will have this dream come true."

She has been in the art club since freshman year. I wanted her to be in classes but we could not afford them. She wants to major in art/photography in college and has just started putting together her portfolio. I say portfolio like she is already an artist - its just drawings and sketches of whatever but to me they are good. Then again, I am her mother. letting go
"I am taking my youngest daughter to college in two weeks. During my thirty years of parenting I have focused on raising my children and putting their needs first. These adventures have been joy filled, heart breaking, and exhausting. By exhausting I mean that I have nearly exhausted my true self. One child died at a young age, one was a missing person for many years and when found was living as a drug addicted street child. In an effort to reconnect with her I lived with her on the streets for several days. She returned only to disappear again shortly thereafter. Ten years later she reappeared pregnant and alone and in need. I took her in and nine months later she left her baby with me. This story ends joyfully in an adoption of both my grandson and myself. The last child- the one going off to college- held her own throughout the twists and turns that life brought us. She grew with confidence, self awareness and is very self assured. It is now my time to grow and develop into this next sector of my life. It's time to let go of what I wished life would have held and embrace and accept what is. I have held retreats and workshops for families going through similar instances and realize that all my efforts have been to give others what I need myself. This retreat would allow my creativity to be reclaimed and in the process of using art as therapy allow me to rediscovery the depths of who I have now become. "

"After an auto accident in 2000, I suffered a Traumatic Brain Injury. At that time I found out how incredible the "Brain" works! My injury was to the frontal lobe/the executive thinking part of the brain. Through recovery I realized that the other side of my brain took over for the side which was damaged/lost. It was then that I began drawing, refurbishing old pieces into new, making something completely different from a piece of jewelry to furniture! It took some time to accept and understand the workings of my "new brain" but I can tell you now, "I'm excited just walking down the street and seeing other peoples trash picking it up and turning it into treasure! Thank you!"

Thrilling and Terrifying Possibility
"As I transition from being an active mom of three to a full time caregiver to my youngest son with autism, I find that I am home alone with more time and quiet than ever before. Although my son is 20, he requires full time care so I am required to be home much of the time. The call to unleash my creative potential is becoming louder each day, but I am limited in my knowledge of how to follow that call. I have read some of Julie Cameron's books and felt very inspired to move deeper yet I am honestly quite fearful of trying things that are out of my realm of experience. I love to write and appreciate the beauty of many forms of art but I don't know where to begin. The possibility of being chosen to participate in this experience is both thrilling and terrifying to me. Even as I write this my heart is fluttering. Nevertheless, I am putting myself out here to be considered for the opportunity to attend this stuff-that-dreams-are-made-of once in a lifetime experience. It is with great excitement that I say "please pick me!""

I just this week gave her colored pencils, water colors, and paper so she is a beginner but she has always been able to express herself thru beautiful poetry. Blue Horse
"When I was a child, I loved to paint, draw and basically create things. When I was six, I stayed with my grandmother for a week. Once there, I was on my way to having any creativity removed from me. I colored "red boots and umbrella" in colors I chose rather than what the coloring book told me to do. Grandmother scraped the crayon off the page and made me sit there until I got those ugly boots and umbrella RED so that she wouldn't be embarrassed when she showed her friends. In third grade, we made paper-weight horses for our fathers. I painted my horse a beautiful royal blue. I was so proud of it and my teacher, who was also an artist, thought it was lovely. Too bad my father didn't share his enthusiasm when he opened the gift, while I waited on pins and needles to get his reaction. Father exclaimed that he had no use for a horse that was not painted the RIGHT color. He put it away and I never saw that horse again. From then on, I just figured there was no use in my doing anything "artistic" since I failed so miserably at it. I became a nurse. I do make all of my own greeting cards since father passed in 1991. I don't want this to sound like a boo-hoo story because I've tapped into my writing ability as an expression of art. However, I just think that I'd like the opportunity to paint a blue horse with nobody telling me how I'm a failure. Of course, I could do that at home. But, it would be so much more exciting to do it under the tutelage of an accomplished artist. "

Garlic and Bees
"Each day before I head off to work, I glance at the hives to see what's happening on the front porch of each hive. I pass by dozens of garlic plants re-seeding as a three-foot pile of it dries on a bench under the rose arbor. Sometimes I capture the image on my camera, but more often, it's just in my mind.Writing every day for the work world seems to zap my crative energy for the things I really love. I would love to paint the garlic in our yard in its many stages, as well as the bees visiting the crepe myrtle, zinnias and resting on the front of the hive after a long hot day."

My birthday is in October, our anniversary is in October and as an avid bow hunter living in Michigan, October is the month that he and I would visit the most colorful areas in upper Michigan, which was a great feat considering he would have to give up valuable hunting time to do this with me *smile*. Sadly he lost a two year batter with kidney cancer this April and this will be my first October without the love of my life. "I have a degree in art and have been painting off and on for years. But I've never really dedicated myself to it, because my life is extremely full. I'm married with homes in two states; two jobs (including my own consulting firm); am completing my doctorate; have a wonderful husband, four kids, and three dogs; and am caring part-time for my elderly mother and very disabled sister. I haven't taken a real vacation in years. Despite this, all I really want to do is paint and create mixed media works. Please give me a reason to get away and focus on my creativity for a few days! Art is around us...
"The beauty of art is it is all around us. One thing we take for granted is art is nurtured and admired because great artists provide that opportunity. It isn't always true. Younger students need to be exposed to it, learn how to appreciate it and explore their skills. We need adults to assist in that process.... given the time to create offers opportunities to share the experience with others. I would love to share my experience with others and help them not only grow artistically but in the classroom. Why not use art to teach reading, writing, math, etc.??? Learning would open so many doors...."

Desperately needed
"Anna, My daughter is an artist who earned her degree at the University of the Arts in Philadelphia. She is a muralist and has shown her paintings in many juried shows in the area. Last September she was dianosed with ovarian cancer. After months of chemo we thought she had overcome this debilitatingl disease. However, it has returned, and she has had to start all over again. The chemo affected the nerves in her hands, and she had to undergo carpal tunnel surgery, She is now beginning to get the use of her fingers back. Before this all happened she was an avid yoga student, eats healthy foods and worked at a high-end framing shop. If anyone needs to be inspired to draw and paint again it is Cori. She has completly put her creativity aside and is lost in the world of IVs, medications and hospital rooms. Her sketch book and brushes remain hidden, untouched in her studio. Please consider her as a candidate for the much needed retreat to regain her confidence as an artist and be in an environment that will surely regenerate her great artisitic abilities. Thank you very much, Corinne Ryan (Cori's mum)"

I put a major art show in a metropolitan convention center. I own paints. I own an easel, watercolors, pastels that have all been given to me by loved ones who tell me how talented I am but I'm afraid of them! Never used them! Many of my friends are artists. My Mom was an incredibly talented ceramicist and I know that I could channel her talents if given a little nudge. Also, I could really use a retreat from this live for a few days. :-)"

For my mother
"This would be perfect for my mother's upcoming 75th birthday in October. Mom has always had a passion for drawing and has dabbled with oil painting for years. I remember her using pencils to draw some wonderful pictures when I was a little girl (she still has some that boast my crayon'd "additions"). Then, she turned to oils and taught herself as best she could. Every one of her four children has at least one of her paintings hanging in our homes. They may not be professional, but they were painted with love. In recent years, she has gotten away from it because her fixed income didn't allow for "extras" such as oil paints and canvas. I'd love to provide her with this (along with a gift of the airfare and other expenses) to allow her to reconnect with her passion. Working with Anna for a few days would give her the inspiration she needs and the tutoring she has often longed for."

"I used to define myself as an artistic person - I would paint, sew, write, stained glass, crafts. Over the past few years I have had family and work take over and often I feel as though all I am is a paycheck, a housekeeper and a chauffeur. Something like this would help me find my artistic side again. And boy, would I like to reunite with that part of me!"

Inspired heART!
"If ever a contest had my name on it. . .this would be it! Although I am an award-winning artist, I have no classical training. Lately I have been visualizing a artistic retreat that would take me to the next level. Since Anna is classically trained and serves ORGANIC meals, this would be sAN(NA)ta delivering a DREAM COME TRUE! My commitment is to throw myself into the canvas like nobody's business and come out with more passion and belief in our miracle-filled world! Anna's website makes my heart beat a little bit faster. . ."

An Artist's Paradise
"How could you not find your creative side in such an awesome environment? I would love to find the creative soul I used to be, prior to all the commitments that come with being a parent and holding a job. This experience would nurture the entire person in finding balance, rest relaxation and time to be find the inner artistic soul! Best of luck to all, I would love to join you. "

"We know you don't have any talent..."
"At the end of my junior year of high school, I was invited to participate in the Advanced Painting and Drawing Class during my senior year. This was an "invitation-only" class, and open only to the best artists in the junior and senior grades. The invitation was proffered, and the look of incredulity on my face prompted the following comment: "It's ok. We know you don't have any talent, but we really like you and want to make sure you take painting again next year." Well, I took the advanced painting and drawing class, and while I definitely lived up to my "no-talent" label, I enjoyed every minute. I haven't had so much fun creatively since, and would love the opportunity to recapture that feeling."

Staying Juicy at 63
"After 10 years of helping children living with a parent with cancer give voice to their confusion and fears I have taken a pause in my life to re-energize, de-stress and re-focus my work and passion. Your incredible art retreat would be just the self-care I need to clear my thoughts and emotions and figure out new ways to help these children and families. "

Art art art!
"This retreat looks phenomenal. What more can I say?! Whether or not I have true artistic talent--who knows?! But being in this beautiful retreat, with creative people all around, I could surely work up a decent painting or two. **Fingers crossed**"

It's time to find the artist in me at 53
"I think that a setting and an instructional experience like the one at Anna Rhodes would really bring out the artist within me at 53. Between the mountain views, the organic foods and the air I think my creativity would blossom, I would love to see the results. Now that the "empty nest" will be taking place this September, the timing for such an event would be amazing."
