Chantal Cookware worth $650+

The Chantal tea kettle became a status symbol when it was introduced in the 1980’s, and it has since popped up everywhere from Sex in the City to Seinfeld. But did you know it was invented by an FOF?

FOF Heida Thurlow trained and worked for years in the German steel industry before moving to the U.S. in the 1970s to launch Chantal, becoming the first woman to found and run a cookware company. Her iconic tea kettle has been a bestseller for 25 years, and Heida now holds over 26 utility and design patents in this country and abroad.

You can win her bestselling kettle as well as her latest invention: Copper Fusion® pots and pans, which combine the beauty of enamel with the heat conducting power of copper.

The Lucky FOF will win*:

Enamel-on-steel Classic Tea Kettle
A Copper Fusion® cookware set including:

  • 10" fry pan
  • 1.7-qt. covered saucepan
  • 3-qt. covered saucepan
  • 6-qt. covered casserole

FOF Contest
"My pots and pans were bought at an outlet mall out in Katy. They are no good and they are horrible to cook with. My first kettle was given to me and a dr. I worked for (Dr. Wm E. Ross III) by Heida. After 25 years of continued use it has died. I need a new one Heida!! It was such a wonderfu gift. "

"Well here we go again, I have a story for You! In my senior year of High School (back in the day) 1970, a man knocked on our (family house) door, He was selling "pots and pans". Anyhoo, I spoke with my parents, (by law you had to speak to parents because I was only 17) and they allowed me to decide for myself. My Dad looked at them and said the "quality" was very good. I purchased the pots and pans and this is also where my credit history began! The set came with 4 different size frying pans/3 sauce pans including 1 double boiler& 1 steamer strainer/2 stock/pasta pots Attachments:the pasta/stock pot had an attachment that sat on the rim & with that I could sterilize 8 baby bottles/or insert up to 8 individual little "cups" (included) to poach eggs.and of course each pot/pan had handles and lids! and these were "waterless cooking" too! Today 40 years later and after numerous moves,Unfortunately, I only have about half the set now due to losing/leaving them during a move. So the answer to "YOUR Question of the Week",where did I get my pots/pans? I bought my Prudential Ware/Waterless cooking Pots/Pans from the Man who knocked on my door in 1970! And although back in 1970 I purchased them for $700! Quite a bit of money, I believe I got the Deal of the Century!! As always, Thank you for asking, Thank you for your Outstanding Website! PS: I am looking for a "stock pot" for soups/sauces etc. (when I don't want to use my crock pot). I am having some difficulty finding 1 they all seem to be much to "heavy" prior to putting any ingredients in them? I'm Always open to your suggestions or any other FOF member! Thanks! "

great cookware
"I am actually very selective about what I cook with. I am very health conscious, and have accumulated a variety of cookwear which cannot contain any aluminum at all, wherever I happen to find them. This is actually quite difficult, since most pans do have an aluminum core, even in stainless steel. These pans are great because they contain no aluminum at all, only copper - very healthy."

"My pots and pans came from garage sales, estate sales, junk shops (some in England) and only God knows where else. It's been so long I've forgotten. One is heavy aluminum that I bought at Sears. I still love it though it has only one handle. It is crooked and the lid won't fit because I once dropped it while full of spaghetti sauce when I was entertaining for dinner. I hate to get rid of it because it still works and unfailingly reminds me of those two dinner guests who are long gone to their rewards, and the kitchen, family and circumstances of the time I dropped it. I could do an ad of these pots and pans. Each is mismatched bent ugly and has a dozen stories to go with it. I would like a new set to go with my new kitchen remodel. I love the red color. It's the same red accent I used in my white kitchen. It would be beautiful."

"I have a set that my dad and stepmom bought me for a wedding gift, one of the grill pans, when heated, shot one of the rivets past my ear, into the family room (scared me to death and could have killed me if it had hit me in the head), and a set that was ordered from one of the tv shopping shows. I've got a few remnants from my single days (Revere ware)and a few fill-ins after various cooking mishaps. I remember the first time I ever saw Chantal cookware, and I thought it was absolutely the most gorgeous and unique cookware I'd ever seen (still is!) and have always dreamed of having a set of it! My passion is cooking, decorating and entertaining and it would be wonderful to have something that not only is state of the art, but beautiful to look at as well! I used to own a beautiful set of Regal pots and pans that my late husband and I purchased together 45 years ago, when we first got married. I idolized Julia Child my entire adult life, and so envied her beautiful copper pots and pans. Since my husband recently passed, (those old Regal pots and pans we bought just didn't hold-up anymore, from lots of cooking wear and tear) I purchased replacements at the Salvation Army and a few garage sales, because that's all I can afford."

I can't imagine cooking on such lovely pots and pans. Mine are not stick-proof and they are really showing their age. These pots and pans were given to my husband and me when we got married from my mom and dad. Both of them are gone now and I think I'm holding onto them only because of that. "I would not know what a color coordinated pan set is. The assortment I have is ancient from mom, and her mom. The wooden handles on a couple have been replaced and repainted, as have the knobs, all thick cast aluminum items from mixed mfrs. They have cooked many an excellent meal all these years and I will probably pass them on to the grandkids, because heaven knows, the kids refuse to take them. Admittedly, there's a sentimentality with using them, but they have become downright ugly and warped, and worn from too much Brillo. I killed the old stockpot last year when I burned sugar in it, and it would not clean up. As much as I LOVE to cook (it's relaxing to me) you'd have thought that I'd treat myself to something as nice as a new set of cookware. So it just has to be the memories...... I do so miss her."

pots and pans
"I have been collecting pots, pans and kitchen tools since 1960. I have all shapes and sizes of cast iron, stainless steel, copper and enamel cookware. Last week I was invited to cook at Marjorie Kinnan Rawlings kitchen in Cross Creek and use her amazing antique collection of cast iron pots and stoneware bowls. The Chantal collection would be my first matching set."

You can never have enough!
"I purchased my last set of pots and pans through QVC in 1992, and I am still using them. They are the Wolfgang Puck Bistro Collection, and have held up pretty well. I also purchase a set of Teflon coated fry pans from Bed, Bath and Beyond in 2008 because my previous Teflon coated fry pans were no longer safe to use. The problem with the fry pans are the handles are not oven safe. Being a "foodie" who loves to cook, winning the Chantal Cookware would be heavenly!!"

Pots & Pans
"Our eclectic assortment of pots & pans has accumulated over the past 35 years since i graduated college from my grandmother (my mom can't boil water), my single life in DC & NYC in the 70's-80's and collectively merged with items my husband had when we met in the late 80's. We went through 2 serious bouts of cooking classes when we first met & again in the mid-90's along with serious "cookware" both times. We've been using all these but don't cook as much now as we used to but we have some Chantal that we love and would love to add to our collection. Perhaps some new pieces will inspire us to cook some more! Thanks. "

beautiful cookware set!
"What a perfect color for this cookware - bright red!! The color of empowerment (power ties), the color that reminds us of women's heart health issues...and my favorite color for toes! Like everyone else I was mistakenly told, cooking was demeaning to women - I use to feel guilty because I took so much pleasure from cooking. Once I became a FOF - and an empty nester - I decided I could do whatever made me happy - and I LOVE to cook so that's what I do!! Would love to have this to cook for my girlfriends..."

Ancient History!
"I bought my set of pots and pans over 40 years ago, when I was in college. It's quite a story, since I wasn't engaged or married at the time. One of my classmates, a guy, was trying to earn his tuition by going door to door selling pots and pans. It was hard work lugging all of those pans around so I felt a little sorry for him and somehow managed to buy a complete set and put them away for when I would need them after college. They have lasted me all of these years and I use them daily."

Mixed and Matched Cookware
"Back in the 60's I bought a set from Amway (Queen Cookware, I think). But I have odds and ends of pots and pans (some older than the set) that have come from different sources over the years. The Amway cookware is nice, with heavy bottoms, but it is NOT non-stick and I would love to win these to replace them. Such a beautiful set--and I really need a new tea kettle! (I could then give my old set to my grandson who loves to cook and is planning on moving into his own apartment in a couple of months!)"

I was extremely upset as I had spent quite a bit of time researching pans on the internet and decided that I wanted to try the enamel-on-steel pan for health reasons. This was the only pan I found that had the enamel interior with steel outside. I ended up purchasing a Green Pan (brand) from Target. I like the performance of this pan, but it is aluminum, which is not so healthy to cook with. I would absolutely love to win the Chantal cookware as I have many health problems including fibromyalgia, arthritis, chronic migraines, heart problems and the list goes on. I think this line of pans would be much healthier for cooking my food."

"25 years ago I bought a set of Cuisinart cookware (which weren't cheap!) from Al's pottery. The wooden handles and knobs are rough and discolored from washing and rivets have fallen out leaving the top and no bottom of a handle. Near and far
"Scrounged over many years--rarely at yard sales (there's always some hideously scratched non-stick pans, and not much else), good stuff when Mom upgraded to even better ones and gave me the older ones, my beloved cast-iron skillet from a country foodie guy friend of mine (he can make muffins without a recipe, and DOES NOT OWN A MICROWAVE)...some pieces are from when a friend and I went in together on a big set on sale somewhere, he wanted some of the pieces and I wanted the others. Man, that kettle is beautiful!"

Pots & Pans!
"Let's see...where do I begin .... I am going to get very misty eyed about 2 of my pots and pans and why I bought them a number of years ago.... My oldest and dearest friend Holly passed away few years ago from a devastating illness, but one of my fondest memories of her was her old pots and pans that looked like new! The last time I visited her in NY (knowing she was terminal) we were standing in her tiny kitchen while she carefully washed those pots with the brass bottoms...telling me why she still used them.... She said it was the way her mother always cooked and she wanted to be the same way... When I got back home, I did purchase a big stainless spaghetti pot and a nice size pan and always think of my dear friend Holly reunited with her mom....."

"Where didn't I get a pot or pan!? When I saw this post, I went into the cabinet that holds these mismatched orphans. There's a couple of ones that I picked up at yard sales, one I've had since college..my favorite..because nothing sticks to it. It's not pretty, but it works great! I've got a totally out of place yellow pot with black "peace" signs all over...I saw it and thought it looked cute. I have an old pan with a handle that has been threatening to fall off for about 12 years...I can't get rid of it because, at this point, it's like a weird game of chicken. Then there's the cherry red Dutch oven that my Grandmother bought me one year. $325!! Because she said "everyone should own a Dutch oven" and you can't argue with Grandma! All in all, I have about 20, non-matching, pots and pans that I've collected from Hollywood thrift stores, London boot sales, Jersey yard sales, Ross, Macys...and Grandma!! "

"My pots and pans are over 50 years old! Yes 50! They were my Mom's from before I was born, and I inherited them when she passed. They are the copper bottom "Wearever" ones and a couple of cast iron pans too. As long as you take care of them, they truly last; and I have the proof of that lol. But with that said, the handles are starting to break down now, and I could really use a new set. I love copper, and these look like they would perform just as well, if not better than what I have now! I also really need a decent tea pot too! :D These would be excellent to own, and someday pass down to one of my children. Wouldn't it be nice to hear about this set being over 50 years old and still giving the same great service as they did decades ago? Thank you for the chance at something so very wonderful, functional, and beautiful!!! I truly appreciate the chance to maybe own them."

Hodge Podge Cooking Queen
"I've inherited every pot & pan ever owned during the last century from every family descendent. From aluminum to glass, to copper and iron, to chipped and dented - you name it, it's in my cupboard. I've eyed new pots and pans from time to time, but since the "family dowery" still "works", it's hard to justify spending the money on new cookware when there are other expenses that need it's attention. I just can't imagine looking in my cupboard and seeing a matched set! LOL Still I'm thankful that I've had these trusty "warriors" throughout the years - they've fought the "battle" well and perhaps someday they will earn a proper retirement. ;0)"

Beautiful and Safe for Humans
"I bought my own Revere Ware 32 years ago. My mom had Revere Ware and being a Yankee, I wanted to buy good quality pans that would last forever. The problem with the frying pan is that it has a hotspot that turns black every time I use it, even if I am really careful with the heat and rotate the pan. Over the years I bought a few non-stick skillets %u2013 only to recently discover that many of the non stick cooking surfaces contain chemicals that can leach into food and are dangerous for people but for some reason are still allowed here. I would feel really good about using Chantal pans that are coated in enamel, which is very safe for food and people and are beautiful to look at."

"After 38 years of marriage, my pots and pans are an eclectic mix. My first set, as a young bride, came from Sears and Roebuck. They were "Harvest Gold," thin and generally awful. I replaced them with a set, bought on sale of course, from the now defunct Abraham and Strauss department store. About 15 years ago I bought a discontinued Calphalon set at Kohl's and have occasionally added specialty pots and skillets purchased at the Le Cruset outlet and Home Goods. Hopefully, when my children are all settled in homes of their own, we will downsize to a smaller home and start out with a fresh set of matching pots and pans."

As a result my current pans were purchased on a shopping on television channel and they are made with some sort of non-stick surface which is now peeling. Time to move on from college pans!
"I am still using the Revereware set of pots and pans that I got on incredible discount while a starving college student in Boston decades ago! At the time I was working several part-time jobs while going to school full-time on scholarship, and had virtually no money to spare after paying my weekly expenses. Macy's had two sets of Revereware pans on incredible sale (it was so amazing to me, I still remember it!), and I had a coupon. Voila - I had a new set of pans to replace the castoffs I was using from Goodwill. And, man, did I feel privileged. Perhaps that feeling of being independent and these being truly mine accounts for part of the reason that I have yet to replace them. Isn't that awful? Despite my intent to find a great set of pans and actually replace these much used, stained, and somewhat dinged instruments, I simply have yet to do so. As such, seeing the Chantal pieces is certainly inspirational - and would be a much needed and desired change!"

"When I lived in LA I had one Chantal tea kettle (which I have since seen on SEINFELD reruns) but it didn't make it through the '94 earthquake. The rest of my pots and pans were wedding gifts...or pieces I bought to make a specific recipe."

A pot and some pans
"I still am cooking with a pot I received as a shower gift 51 years ago. It was the only nice pot I ever owed. The rest have been either garage sale items or cheap cheap cheap ones as we could never afford a good set. I really would like to win this set. Maybe I'll even start to enjoy cooking."

Here there everywhere
"When I was young I'd buy an investment pot/pan once a year - still have the old paella pan, dutch oven. I've inherited my Mom's and Aunt's pots (some I kept others gave away). Now I read reviews and check out Amazon.com, Walmart's offerings, and try to find good quality with long-term prospects. As I expand my repertoire, I add to my pots and pans."

Where I got my pots and pans
"Over the yewars since 1970, I have gotten pots and pans as gifts, in full sets (LeCrueset) from my husband, and I inherited some revereware from my mom. To say I need new pans is an understatemen! I now have 11 fry pans of different sizes, and in terrible condition, thanks to experimenting teens, and I would love my cookware to match and perform well."

Mother's Revere Ware
"I am still using some of the pieces of Revere Ware that my mother passed on to me when I went away to College. They rattle around on my smooth stove top - lol. The only pots and pans I have added since, were some cobalt blue discontinued Calphalon from Belks when they were marked down probably 75% off, plus I probably had a coupon on top of that. I am soon to be divorced and we are splitting up that! I could really use a beautiful new set of pots and pans for my new life."

Where did I get my pots and pans?
"Various places, my grandmother gave me her two cast iron skillets and I not only treasure them I use them. My husband and I hosted a Pampered chef party several years ago and we were able to purchese a set of cookware at a great discount. Also, my mother gave me one of her favorite griswald pots, and my mother in law gave me another alum pot. I love the appearance of this cookware and would enjoy them in my newly remodled kitchen!"

I would love to have the beautiful collection of cookware set to add to my heirloom set.
