05March   {What do you think of this look?} Avant Garde or Buckingham Palace Guard?
This FOF that we spotted in SoHo works for a worldwide organization that provides interview suits and career development to low-income women. What a mensch! She tells us she once went two years without repeating an outfit and does most of her shopping at Goodwill. Thrifty can be nifty...but did she take it too far? What do you think, FOFs--does her outfit look avant garde or like a Buckingham Palace Guard’s?

27February   {What do you think of this look?} 2013 Oscars Edition

The third time was not the charm for some of our FOFs at the Oscars.  A few of our stars shined through, but many crashed and burned.
What do you think: Which FOF takes the award for best dressed? Which gown was an FOFlop?

Gloria Cooper (Bradley Cooper's Mother)

It was really sweet of Bradley Cooper to bring his mother, Gloria, along to the Oscars.  What’s not so sweet is her choice of metallic Keds instead of statement stilettos. Her black lace dress has gorgeous detailing, which you might actually be able to see if it wasn't obscured by her faux feather shrug.  What do you think of her look?

Helen Hunt

We love an FOFrugalista! When we found out Helen’s navy blue dress was from retail chain H&M we were stunned. She looks like a million bucks but perhaps it has something to do with the $700,000 worth of jewelry she had on? What do you think?

Beautiful “memoriam” performance, but sorry Barb--your gown is a miss for us. The neckline scoops too low and the choker doesn’t do any favors for it and is looking, well--dated (yeah...we said it.) 19February   {What do you think of this look?} Lovely in labels or simply showing off?
This FOF we spotted on the streets of downtown NYC is certainly label happy! In one outfit she manages to sport Chanel (earrings), Tiffany (bracelet and necklace) and a Gucci (bag). What do you think? Is she lookin' lovely in labels or simply showing off? Read what our style experts think, then, tell us your opinion in the comments, below.

Lovey Dash: It’s not the multi designer frenzy that bothers me, it’s the fact that she looks sooo soo boring. I do not think I would look twice at this person--she would just blend in with a crowd and hopefully disappear! B-O-R-I-N-G!

Lovey Dash is a Beverly Hills-based stylist. She was formerly in VIP sales for Louis Vuitton on Rodeo Drive.

Sherrie Mathieson: I'm not a fan of bags that have logos all over them and likewise those Tiffany pieces are not particularly beautiful. The sparkly socks at the top of her boots are garish and not in line with her look. This lady is not stylish in an independent, creative way. Rather she stays safe and consequently, ho-hum.

Sherrie Mathieson is a leading style expert and Random House author of Steal this Style and Forever Cool.

Karen C. Hughes: When everything you have on is a 'statement' or a 'label' then nothing is special. There’s nothing exciting about her outfit. What would I recommend she do? Swap one of these pieces for something truly unique. To spice things up I would add some color or even belt the sweater to give some shape to her body. It just kind of hangs there. That being said, she has a great smile and I like each of her pieces on their own.

Karen C. Hughes is an Atlanta-based style and image coach, her company is styleYOUniversity.

Susan Hersh: The shawl collar cardigan is a keeper! It adds lightness to her black dress. The boots are too slouchy and not refined enough for this outfit. A fine leather knee-high boot would polish this look as well as transition better from day to night.

Susan Hersh is a Ford model and the host and executive producer of Meet The Experts.

29January   {What do you think of this look?} 2013 SAG Awards

Two weeks ago, we featured our FOFashion faves and flops from the Golden Globes. Last night, they had a chance to dazzle us again...or in some cases to redeem themselves!

What do you think: Were their fashion choices fab, or should we wish them better luck at the Oscars?

Julianne Moore

We thought Julianne wouldn’t be able to top her stunning Golden Globe getup...and we were right. Did she take the concept of SAG awards a little too literally? It’s hard to pay proper attention to her white, haute couture Chanel gown with its lovely navy flower applique details. While beautiful, she’s FOFalling out of it, but nothing a little double sided tape can’t fix...right?

Alfre Woodard

Last night, Alfre Woodard, received a SAG award for “Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor” in the all-black remake of Steel Magnolias. We also think she deserves an award for this stunning chartreuse, off-the-shoulder Kevan Hall gown. It’s flattering, forgiving and just, plain FOFabulous. Sigourney Weaver

Sigourney Weaver's shapeless black satin dress is so poorly made that it's designer remains unnamed. Meet our furry FOFriend! We spotted this woman in New York City looking quite cool...er...warm with her aviator hat and blazer decked in fur. But what do you think? Is her outfit fur better or fur worse? Answer in the comments below plus see what our style experts think.

Glenyse Thompson: Fur better, for keeping her warm. Fur worse, because the sleeves are too short. I would take that jacket to the tailor and convert it to a vest (keep the sleeves and have them converted into a clutch!). Then, lose the hunter hat. There are chic-er alternatives out there that are just as warm and stylish.

Glenyse Thompson is a personal home and wardrobe stylist and the creator of Styleosophy.

Karen C. Hughes: The fur is fun but styled all wrong. What bothers me more than the fur, though, are the leopard leggings paired with a t-shirt. It seems like she just pulled whatever out of the closet and put it on. I’d have to say this look is fur worse.

Karen C. Hughes is an Atlanta-based style and image coach, her company is styleYOUniversity.

Sherrie Mathieson: I might say this cute FOF has all she needs with her nice figure and great smile. Her warm fur hat, scarf and biker boots are stylishly funky. But it takes all her lovely naturalness to offset the cheap look of the rabbit fur jacket, animal print jeggings, and the vintage bag.

Sherrie Mathieson is a leading style expert and Random House author of Steal this Style and Forever Cool.

.
Shelley Zurek: This woman has two great things going for her--she hardly looks a day over 25 and her boots are awesome. The rest of the outfit...umm...not so much.

Shelley Zurek is the clever FOF behind the blog, Still Blonde after all these YEARS.

Deborah Boland and Jojami Tyler (The Glam Gals): Fur-get this look! Call it haute hoser but we think this wacky looking thrift store combo is a mixed up mess. It’s much too teenaged for a grown-up gal. If she’s going for an eclectic look, we’d suggest an oversized leather jacket, bigger boho-style purse and a less bulky scarf to make her look cool in a more mature and tasteful way.

"Glam Gals" Deborah Boland and Jojami Tyler co-write the brilliant fashion blog, Fabulous After 40.

Lovey Dash: Her outfit is furry good. It looks like she is cold so where are her gloves? Speaking of which, I hope they are on the long side because her jacket sleeves look short. But all in all, not bad. The look is a bit cluttered from the chest up, but hey, I lived in New York and a girl must do what a girl must do to stay toasty. I’m letting her slide.

Lovey Dash is a Beverly Hills-based stylist. She was formerly in VIP sales for Louis Vuitton on Rodeo Drive.

Helen Mirren

We'd expect nothing less than fierce, ageless style from the always gorgeous Helen Mirren. Julia Louis-Dreyfus

Julia celebrated her 52nd birthday at the Golden Globes, but we're not a fan of her birthday suit. Julia's jewel-tone, custom-made Vera Wang dress with black lace overlay washes her out, and her nude-tone lipstick doesn't help. Her battened-down hairstyle looks a bit greasy, and the A-line cut of this dress makes her look wider than she is.  We prefer the hip-hugging, saucy yet sophisticated Vera Wang that she hit the red carpet with at last year's Golden Globes.

We commend any errand-bound FOF who leaves the house sans sweatpants. Take for instance this dog-walking beauty sporting an elevated weekend look. But, is her outfit too simple or simply perfect? See what our style experts think, then tell us your opinion in the comments, below.

.
Sherrie Mathieson: Lucky dog, lovely lady! Living proof that you can look both sexy and appropriate. Because her boots are flat they have a sporty chic and youthful look. She wisely kept her sweater loose, and balanced the tight jeggings with the over the knee boot, perfectly.

Sherrie Mathieson is a leading style expert and Random House author of Steal this Style and Forever Cool.

Deborah Boland and Jojami Tyler (The Glam Gals): We're in puppy love with this gals polished, pooch-walking look. Making an effort to look pulled together even when popping out for a walk with the dog is the sign of a true glam gal. With a touch of light makeup, a crisp white blouse and updated over-the-knee boots tucked into skinny jeans she has all the elements to look elegant and comfortable. We salute her for looking chic on the street!

"Glam Gals" Deborah Boland and Jojami Tyler co-write the brilliant fashion blog, Fabulous After 40.

Shelley Zurek: The only change I would suggest in this elegant dog walker’s outfit, is that she lighten her much too dark eyebrows. Everything else, while plain, is quiet, understated, and appropriate to the task at hand. Love the outfit head to toe!

Shelley Zurek is the clever FOF behind the blog, Still Blonde after all these YEARS.

.
Terry Gibralter: Simply elegant! She put together a very chic and classic look. Love the beautiful sweater worn over the gorgeous silk blouse. The top paired with leggings tucked into over-the-knee boots (every FOF’s must have), has her looking pulled together for errands or whatever the day brings. Love her polished hair and makeup too!

Terry Gibralter is the Sr. Vice President and Creative Director at Grey advertising as well as a fashion stylist and the creator of these clever work accessories.

Susan Hersh: This chic elegant woman is starting the New Year off on the right boot. This particular knee-high shoe is one of the prettiest I have seen, and paired with the dark skinny jean is true perfection. The sweater is simply luscious and her jewelry choice conveys subtle elegance. This outfit shows that fashion doesn’t have to be complicated to make a statement.

Susan Hersh is a Ford model and the host and executive producer of Meet The Experts.

11December   {What Do You Think Of This Look?}
From her bomber jacket to her aviator shades, it looks like this FOF took style cues from Amelia Earhart. But, does her outfit pass with flying colors or does it crash and burn? See what our FOF Style Gurus think. Then, share your opinion by leaving a comment, below.

Terry Gibralter: "I really like the cool, fitted cargos and and the leather bomber is always a ‘do’ but the rest of the outfit is a miss. The lacy scarf doesn't work with the sportiness of the outfit and I don't like the colors of the bag and shoes. All the different colors she's wearing; brown, 2 shades of rust, green, white and black, are really keeping this outfit from flying high."

Terry Gibralter is the Sr. Vice President and Creative Director at Grey advertising as well as a fashion stylist and the creator of these clever work accessories.

.
Lovey Dash: "This outfit looks uncomfortable. Too many shades of what I call ‘luggage colors.’ Everything looks outdated. Crash and burn immediately! Well, except for the sunglasses."

Lovey Dash is a Beverly Hills-based stylist. She was formerly in VIP sales for Louis Vuitton on Rodeo Drive.

.
Glenyse Thompson: "She looks fabulous! It's modern and classic at the same time. I love everything about her outfit--FOFlight of fancy!"

Glenyse Thompson is a personal home and wardrobe stylist and the creator of Styleosophy.

Sherrie Mathieson: "Everything looks off--the hairstyle and over-bleached color is wrong for her and her glasses are unflattering. The black leather jacket creates too ‘hard’ of a look. The doily-like scarf is completely out of place with the outfit. The bag is way too large. Dark brown to match her belt would have been better. The shoes shorten her legs. A pair of dark brown riding boots would have been a better choice."

Sherrie Mathieson is a leading style expert and Random House author of Steal this Style and Forever Cool.

Susan Sommers: "I love leather and often wear the same leather pieces year after year in different ways. And while a black leather jacket is my item of choice, sometimes it just looks better in brown. The jacket in a rich brown or cordovan would work better with this entire look. I'd then change the frames on the aviators so they are a bit more like the Ray Bans worn in the film, "Five Easy Pieces," with thin silver or gold rims all around. The lace scarf is a nice touch."

Susan Sommers is a personal branding and wardrobing specialist, founder of Dresszing and author of two fashion bibles, French Chic and Italian Chic.

Susan Hersh: "Too many shades of brown! A black, leather bomber jacket looks best with black leather accessories. This handbag choice overwhelms her small frame and the cognac color seems
obtrusive. I like feminine mixed with biker chic but the lace scarf is outdated. There are plenty of
feminine tops with tulle or lace that are more on-trend."

Susan Hersh is a Ford model and the host and executive producer of Meet The Experts.
26November   {What Do You Think Of This Look?}
It’s a jungle out there! From her safari hat to her tiger sweater, this FOF’s outfit belongs on the set of an “Out of Africa” movie remake. We appreciate a woman who shows her wild side, but was this one wildly ridiculous? See what our FOFs think, then share your opinion in the comments, below.

Terry Gibralter: "I'm mixed on this one. Her sweater is beautiful and perfectly paired with narrow jeans and bone leather, knee-high boots. Her hat is cute and works well with her curls—she's super youthful and attractive! Her bag, a gorgeous green YSL shoulder bag and would work with anything. Now the coat….too big, too ruffled, too gray and too wrong. I wish she had chosen a narrow leather topper or even a cool, knit poncho."

Terry Gibralter is the Sr. Vice President and Creative Director at Grey advertising as well as a fashion stylist and the creator of these clever work accessories.

Shelley Zurek: "Unfortunate pairings. Nothing seems to go together. The boots and coat are dressy. The jeans and sweater are casual, yet don't look good with each other. The hat could be dressy or casual. It seems to me that the pieces were chosen randomly. Each piece looks nice on its own, but together they say chaos."

Shelley Zurek is the clever FOF behind the blog, Still Blonde after all these YEARS.

Lovey Dash: "This does not work for me. I love her hat and boots. I like her coat...but not with this outfit. It’s way too much for all of this. The jeans are jeans. The sweater is weird. She should keep her bag and work another outfit around that, instead."

Lovey Dash is a Beverly Hills-based stylist. She was formerly in VIP sales for Louis Vuitton on Rodeo Drive.

.
.
Glenyse Thompson: "It's a lot going on. Namely, 1981 is calling, it wants that sweater back."

Glenyse Thompson is a personal home and wardrobe stylist and the creator of Styleosophy.

.
Sherrie Mathieson: "Interesting--although I dislike her hat, blatant ‘Y’ on her bag, tiger themed sweater and her frilled coat--I still find her inexplicably attractive. Perhaps it's her naturally pretty face and hair that manages to trump her style?"

Sherrie Mathieson is a leading style expert and Random House author of Steal this Style and Forever Cool.

Susan Sommers: "This outfit is just too much--of everything! Too much volume with too much hair and too many broken lines. Instead of looking long and lean (the way Elle MacPherson, might appear in something similar) our lady seems squat and shapeless with short legs. Love the coat but would like to see it over a body-fitting sweater with jeans and short dark booties so her leg is extended. A long pendant necklace would also appear to lengthen her body. I'd also tie back her hair--since the coat is so big, her hair needs to be smaller--especially if she's wearing a hat. Like the bag, but with this coat, I'd select a satchel instead."

Susan Sommers is a personal branding and wardrobing specialist, founder of Dresszing and author of two fashion bibles, French Chic and Italian Chic.

Deborah Boland and Jojami Tyler (The Glam Gals):  "This BoHo babe looks like she is on her way to Africa! Her exotic flowing hair, animal print top, boots and suede bag communicate free spirit, while her floppy hat and ruffly jacket send a girly, romantic message. She needs to trade in the jacket for a more rugged safari one to enjoy her adventures in style!"

"Glam Gals" Jojami Tyler and Deborah Boland co-write the brilliant fashion blog, Fabulous After 40.

Susan Hersh: "The coat is fun and fashionable but the tiger Intarsia sweater is very outdated and adds unnecessary bulkiness. She should swap the sweater with a printed blouse for a more updated look. The light-colored knee high boots shorten her legs. Instead, a black, knee-length boot with skinny jeans would immediately elongate the leg. Lastly, chuck the hat, it looks too Annie Hall."

Susan Hersh is a Ford model and the host and executive producer of Meet The Experts.
09November   {What do you think of this look?}
White after Labor Day? How about white after Election Day? This FOF is no slave to rules as she proudly dons the pearly hue deep into autumn. But, what do you think: is she a fashion rebel without a cause? Or did she get it all white? Read what our style experts think, then, tell us your opinion in the comments below.

Glenyse Thompson: “White after Labor Day can be chic, and this look almost made it. Her upper layers are really working, but her pants are so loose they look like waffle thermal underwear. Fit is everything! Choosing a size smaller in stretch pants help them keep their shape. Her boots aren't doing this outfit any favors either, making her feet look huge, and completely out of proportion to her petite frame. Booties or a taller-shaft boot with a rounder toe would have complemented this look better."

Glenyse Thompson is a personal home and wardrobe stylist and the creator of Styleosophy.

Sherrie Mathieson: “As for white after Labor Day...or in this case Election Day--I'd say it's really more about fabric choice than color choice. This pretty lady looks bright but not summery. She uses layered white in wintery textures for a great total look. Her accent fall pieces in navy are an unexpected touch--perfect!"

Sherrie Mathieson is a leading style expert and Random House author of  Steal this Style and Forever Cool.

Lovey Dash: "This look happens to be one of my favorites. It’s so chic and classic from her gorgeous flat leather boots to her wonderful layered tee and sweater. I also love the proportion of her bag. If you really pushed me to make one change I’d say ditch the white bracelets. Winter, spring, summer or fall--this look is great!"

Lovey Dash is a Beverly Hills-based stylist. She was formerly in VIP sales for Louis Vuitton on Rodeo Drive.

Susan Sommers: “This look is pure perfection before, during and after Labor and Election Days. The mix of textures and fabric weights makes this outfit current and modern. By anchoring it with a dark handbag and boots, it really suits the season. The only piece I would add is a long challis, cashmere- or cashmere-blend scarf in a bold geometric print swathing the neck to add some punch and keep the ensemble definitely in the cold-weather category."

Susan Sommers is a personal branding and wardrobing specialist, founder of Dresszing and author of two fashion bibles, French Chic and Italian Chic.
