30November   {Giveaway} Jouany Perfumes
Christophe Jouany is giving away two his Jouany Perfumes, inspired by exotic travel destinations ($125 each). One FOF will win "Marrakech," the other will win "St. Barthélemy." Enter to win by answering in the comments below: Which fragrance would you most want to try?

If you're looking for a fragrance that drives FOF men crazy--who better to ask than an FOF man? "I was in touch with my sense of smell since I was young," says Christophe Jouany, the FOF perfumer behind Jouany Fragrances, a collection that launched this fall at Henri Bendel and is already turning heads...er...noses.

Christophe spent most his life as a fashion photographer, snapping shots for Vogue, Elle, Marie Claire and Glamour. (He was even the official photographer for the royal family of Jordan.) A few years ago, while on a photo shoot in Miami, Christophe wandered into a store that sold essential oils. "I was like a kid in a candy store," he says.

Right then and there, Christophe created the prototype of his first scent. "Everyone kept asking me what it was and where they could get it--even my cab driver," he says. A long-time perfumer friend confirmed the scent was extremely well structured, and Christophe got to work manufacturing it for mass market. "It was like building a machine engine," he says. "So many moving parts." The biggest obstacle, according to Christophe, was finding an inexpensive source for essential oils. "When you use essential oils in a fragrances, it's like the difference between an expensive wine and a cheap wine," he says.

Christophe believes that the sense of smell is the most underrated. "When people come back from a trip, they talk about what they did, but not the smell of the air," he says. Christophe's collection aims to bottle the "scent memories," a person has when they visit exotic destinations. He is creating one scent per city and started with St. Barthélemy, his hometown. "It's a very hippie-chic place, so I used Jasmine and Patchouli for that one," he says. "In my second fragrance, Marrakech, I used orange blossom. Marrakech is the biggest producer of oranges."

Christophe presented his line at Sniffapalooza, a major perfume industry event, this past April. A Henri Bendel buyer got a whiff of it, and before Christophe knew it, his perfumes were being stocked in their store. "Henri Bendel is very chichi and they only carry about ten fragrance lines. They thought mine was beautiful enough in presentation and in smell to carry at their store."

St Barthelemy. I would like to try a different fragrance. I find too may cloying, and usually stick with Chanel #5 but I love pachouli, so, I think this would be great for me.

This is a tough choice! I would probably go for the St. Barthelemy because it represents his hometown and therefore his own memories. Scent is “deep seated” in my memory. Even though I am in my 50s, pipe tobacco still sparks special memories of my grandfather. A certain cologne, when worn by a passing shopper, stops me in my tracks with memories of my Nana!

St. Barthélemy sounds wonderful ! A scent can take you to a better place – close your eyes for a couple of seconds and let your mind wander. I’d love to try this !

Wow!!! I read about these on nstperfume and have been wondering about them ever since! Both sound beautiful in their own ways. Marrakesh sounds so pretty (orange blossom + musk? yes please!) BUT St Barthelemy sounds very unique and unlike anything else in my collection. It’d be tough. I think I’d go for Marrakesh but I hope one day to own BOTH. Jouany should consider having a duo set in smaller sizes because they both sound FANTASTIC! :)

Marrakech, most definitely. Having grown up in Southern California. the fragrance of orange blossoms have always been a constant in my collection of favorite “scent memories” and Marrakesh is a bucket list destination.

It would have to be the Marrakech. The scent of oranges sounds so fresh. I hope it has some spicy undertones – that’s found in all my favorite perfumes.

I haven’t had the opportunity to visit such exotic locations as St. Barthélemy and Marrakech and do not really see any prospect of ever being able to do so. Alas, I do not have any personal “scent memories” of either place and will have be content to experience the perfumes of these wonderfully exotic sounding places as bottled by Christophe Jouany. My first destination would be Marrakech.

St. Barthelemy. Totally my style, hippie-chic. But, they both sound wonderful, as does his concept of “scent memories”.

I love the scent of jasmine and particularly of sandalwood. I think that I would love to try St. Barthelemey since it would remind me of warm, summer nights.

I woud love to try them both! I really like patchouli so I’d go with St. Barthe’lemy first. But I also like the crispness of oranges so the Marrakech would be fun to try too!

I love fresh, last forever perfumes, that are exotic and smell like a faraway land. Marrakech sounds like it fits the bill. A new perfume for this season sounds great.

I so prefer natural oils to chemicals!!! They provide depth and longevity to fragrances. And orange blossoms in the Marrakech are just the thing.

What an interesting man and story. I like the idea of the St. Barthelemy because of the jasmine and patchouli. Hope I win!
