18January   {Style Expert} 2012’s Hottest Nail Trends – Would you wear them?

Some nail colors--candy-apple red, sheer pink--are forever. But with polish as cheap as $3 a bottle, you don’t always have to invest in the classics. We checked in with FOF Deborah Lippmann, manicurist to the stars (i.e. Meryl Streep), who reveals this year’s top nail trends so far.  You tell us, would you wear them?

To enter to win a bottle of FOF Deborah Lippmann’s own fave shade, Naked, vote and then answer this questions in the comments below: What’s your go-to nail polish shade, no matter what's trendy?

Before you run screaming from this color, consider it paired this spring with a classic white blouse, jeans and a pair of neutral flats. Or, as Deborah says, “it will give you that easy, breezy and carefree feeling you’d have on vacation.” Still not convinced? Vote “No way!”
Deborah Lippmann “Mermaid’s Dream,” available Spring 2012; Essie “Absolutely Shore,” $8; Revlon Nail Enamel “Minted,” $4.79; Butter London "Bossy Boots," $14.

“Turquoise will be a big color this spring and summer,” says Deborah. "Different hues of blue--baby blue, turquoise, and navy--will definitely be a lasting trend seen into fall as well." We could imagine working the baby blue at the beach, and we love the idea of navy for fall. Turquoise sounds a bit trickier--but we take Deborah’s word for it. Do you?
Essie “Bobbing for Baubles,” $9; Deborah Lippmann “On The Beach,” available spring 2012; Priti NYC “Crown of Thorns,” $12.50; Butter London "Blagger," $14.

“My new ‘Run The World Girls’ neon shades [editor’s note: these will be available in Spring 2012] have a matte finish, which makes it easier for us FOFs to wear the trend,” says Deborah. “If you don’t feel like you can take the plunge with CONFIDENCE--because that’s the key--then wear it on your toes!” Yes, the highlighter shade takes a little getting used to, but we love tan hands with neatly trimmed nails in neon pink.
Essie “Knockout Pout,” $3.90; Essie “Tangerine,” $6.65; Chanel “Mimosa,” $34.99; Butter London "Jaffa," $14.

"Beige is the new sheer pink, and its popularity is rising," says Deborah. "It gives the illusion of skin continuing and really lengthens your finger. My staple nude is 'Naked.'” The trick is to match your skin--whether it's beige, tan, chocolate or porcelain. We don’t need convincing on this one. It truly lengthens--try it!
Deborah Lippmann “Naked,” $16; OPI “Samoan Sand,” $8; Dior Vernis “Ivory,” $30.59; RGB “F3,” $16.

I’m thinking “outside of the box”. Would love to try
Essie’s “Knockout Pout”. Need to have more fun in my life and now that I just turned 70 want to truly live my life in a degree of “edginess”.
    Thank you

I always wear a neutral color like Essie Ballet Slippers on my fingernails. I constantly experiment with toenails, but a tangerine or blood red are my usual.

I need this! I just took off acrylic nails after almost 20 years of wearing them. They look awful and I need to cover them with some pretty polish!

I have been trying out some Zoya polishes lately so I can get in on the 3-free type. My fave so far is Bethany, a natural-looking sheer blush pink.

My go-to is always a berry red, but I like to try many others! Loving that turquoise, and last week tried a creme blue.

I felt funny voting, because I’d probably wear all the polishes in this post! I love colors, and feel like none of them will ever be too un-hip (at least in moderation)
Anyway, going with the blue trend, I love Essie – Mesmerize!

I really have two go-to-polishes that I rotate between equally: OPI: In The Spot Light-Pink (a very sheer jelly pink), and Essie: Jazz (a khaki/tan color). I *LOVE* the look of “Naked” so hopefully I will get to try that out at some point!

My go-to nail polish shade, trendy, or not is actually Celtic Sun, from China Glaze. Its a ultra-neon yellow. I layer it over white, so it really *POPS!* The bright color instantly puts me in a good mood and really gets my nails noticed and the compliments just keep coming!

An always ‘trendy’ color is red creme. Its feminine, timeless and chic.

Awesome giveaway. Very generous. Thank you! I would love to try Lippmann’s, Naked. I have only tried her glitters and am obsessed with them.

I always have a burgundy/maroon stand-by. Other than that, I love crackle/shatter polishes, if I’m in a hurry…don’t have to take my time to make it perfect.

Any shade of coral! Right now I’m obsessed with China Glaze Make Some Noise, but I know as soon as I try out the new Essies I got, I’ll probably have a new favorite coral!
