26March   {What do you think of this look?} Seventies chic…or stuck in a time warp?

Spotted at Fashion Week....When this FOF got dressed she was clearly thinking 70s glam--with her shaggy vest, round shades and wide-legged trousers. But, did she ace this retro redux or should we send her back to Studio 54?

—————————————————————————————————

Sherrie Mathieson: "It takes a very pretty, well-proportioned, slim woman to pull off this demanding look--the bulk, the color, the high waist. She succeeds. I love the snakeskin accessory choices and 70s inspired necklace.”

Lovey Dash: “She is not stuck in a time warp, she’s stuck in fashionista land. She has the whole thing going, from snake accessories to winter white, big glasses, a ratty fur vest and the high-waisted pant which made a comeback this year. I would have preferred a more simple top, perhaps a tonal cashmere tee from Kors, but hey, what do I know?”

Lovey Dash is a Beverly Hills-based stylist. She was formerly in VIP sales for Louis Vuitton on Rodeo Drive.

--

Glenyse Thompson: “Love everything! This is what monochromatic magic looks like. Her Mongolian vest is warm and luxurious--great for running to and from New York Fashion Week shows. The snakeskin clutch, textured shoes and statement necklace bring warmth to her neutral palette. Best of all, she looks confident, comfortable and chic.”

Glenyse Thompson is a personal home and wardrobe stylist and the creator of Styleosophy.

Susan Hersh: "Her fur vest is very chic this season, but the monochromatic look is very old. The shirt tucked into the trouser is not flattering for her figure--it makes her appear wide in the hip area. I would swap it for a slim trouser and untuck the shirt in a more fluid way. The sandal should be updated to a bootie. However, the python clutch is fashionable and the necklace makes a strong statement with the vest."

Susan Hersh is a Ford model and the host and executive producer of Meet The Experts.

Sandra Soich: “This woman is definitely in a time warp. However, the blouse looks great, as well as her necklace. The glasses and bag work well with the other elements. And, of course, the hair is perfectly ‘70s. Not only is she in a time warp but she’s also in a city warp...I could swear she was in LA!"

Lovey Dash? Really? This is your “style expert?” Lovey Dash is no more a ‘stylist’ than Star Jones is a ballerina. Yes, she worked at Louis Vuitton Rodeo Dr. but certainly not in VIP sales. Nothing more than a tired sales associate who would have stepped on her own children (which she has none) to make a sale.

MISS “Dash” was subsequently fired from Louis Vuitton after she was let go for job abandonment. Although, she claims her dismissal was due to antisemitism.

This blog has a unique perspective. Don’t muck it up with wannabes like her.

The pants are a little high on the waist, but other than that she looks great.
She looks happy and comfortable that is what matters the most.

Do you really think this looks good? Her pants are hideous! The shirt looks sloppy. The vest is very cool. She would have done better to update the shirt and pants.

She looks terrific. Not crazy about the blouse but otherwise she’s fine. And she looks happy in her outfit.
I just turned 65 and my best birthday present to myself was bell-bottom high-waist jeans that look fabulous on me.
Wear what you like, wear what looks good on you. If somebody else doesn’t like it, that’s their problem!

If she’s happy, I’m happy. I really hate to judge someone based on their clothing. She isn’t indecent or gross so … live and let live. :)

Her look is “70′s -ish”, all right, and while it wouldn’t work for me at all, she is pulling it off very well. I especially like the reptile look bag & shoes. :)

I am exhuasted by the petty comments—Do any of you critical ladies look half that good on a good day?!?!?!

I love the look of the entire outfit, however the pants do not fit her
well. The waist is too tight and wrinkled in the crotch…..not good.
Outside of that, she looks lovely.

I’m with Susan and Sandra on this one. LA, yes, Manhattan, no.
The shirt outside of slimmer slacks would be much more casual and flattering, as the high and slightly too tight waist accentuate this woman’s stomach.

She looks chic. The tucked in blouse would have worked better if it was more fluid – a jersey turtleneck or cashmere sweater untucked comes to mind, and would have showcased the necklace more. The rest: fab! She rocks the look.

I think she looks great! Yes it is very retro, but she can pull it off with class. Why should we all have to try to fit into a certain look? If she is happy with her look leave it alone.

I’m not at all up on current clothing fashion or hair styles. Where I live has actually been voted “worst dressed people on the planet” so I can’t evaluate based on those elements. I just know that I probably would not wear this outfit unless it’s all I could find in the closet. I guess I’m not into the “LOOK AT ME!!!” syndrome. Also, I have never liked the high-waste pants and would never wear them. They divide the figure disproportionately and are not flattering to anyone, fashionable or not.

And wasn’t the fur vest popular this winter? It was everywhere. So she’s not totally 70′s, just current with a 70′s twist.

I thought the 70′s are back again. Fall ’12 showed lots of wide pants. And I like the monochromatic look. If she can pull off white, more power to her. I could never at 5’4″! Everything is perfect! You guys are picky. :-)

She looks terrific and the she is obviously out for the a social occasion and could go to many venues and fit right in!! I expereinced the 70s and her look is much more chic and deserving of praise than some of the comments — her hair is great also!?

I love this look, with the exception of the blouse that strikes the only jarring note. It should be untucked to cover the unflattering zipper curve in the pants that highlight the tummy curve. And it might be just me, but those cuffs remind me of the cheap polyester blouses from the 70s.

While the look wouldn’t work on every woman, it certainly
works for this woman. Who cares about a decade style when what really matters is the overall picture. This woman wears it with confidence. I think she looks great.

This this perfect ensemble for a 70′s movies.
She is beautiful, elegant and thin she can wear anything.
Using a piece of vintage here or there is fine, but not the whole outfit, unless it is for a costume party.
It is over done for my taste. She simply needs to lighten up.

The matching shoes and bag too much; A shoe to match the pant or a lighter shoe.
The necklace is too heavy, a layered chain around the neck.
A thin simple pullover sweater instead of a blouse.

I like the look — it’s fun. And I think she pulled everything together well. So many of today’s styles are pulled from “yesterday,” why NOT have a 70′s look? I don’t think she’s in a time warp at all.

I like this look. a nice top, over the pants, would look better, but I disagree with the untucked shirt comment. That would make it look sloppy. At least she is not trying to look 20 years younger with tight pants or leggings.

yikes! too much white and I would never take someone seriously that wore a vest like that..the term “rich bitch” comes to mind immediately!

She looks great – what struck me is how the experts don’t agree! How are we to “know” what to wear – Aha just wear what you love – and this woman did it well she looks happy and confident.

This is a look that 1) would be clownish on me and 2) in any place other than an enormous city would jump out like an Abominable Snowman loping down the street.

HOWEVER, I do think she looks great in it. If she’s happy and confident in this outfit (and that is my crucible), then she should go for it.

She looks like a Rachel Zoe wannabe. I would rather see her own style rather than an exact copy of someone else’s.

Love it! I didn’t even see the “70s thing”! For me, who came of age in the 70′s, “style” was drag-on-the-floor elephant bell bottoms, high platform heels (still VERY much in style), leopard print (still VERY much in style), 20 necklaces on a giant overshirt a la Annie Hall, Bette Midler in Clams on the Halfshell & Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy, and disco, a la Sat. Night Fever…

I think everything put together in this outfit is fantastic, except the fur jacket. It’s a little to much monochromatic and distracts from the rest of the outfit. Love the animal skin accessories, glasses and the great necklace. Maybe a simpler jacket of another color would make the rest of the outfit pop. I like her hairstyle with the cream pallete choices. :o )

She certainly makes it work, especially with snakeskin accessories. I do agree about finding a new fluid top … untucked. Everything else is … WOW!

Even your experts all had differing opinions. I always think what a sad world it would be if we all wore just what that particular year’s fashions dictated. We would all look alike. Women are slaves to so many things, one being these horrendous, almost dangerous shoes that make one 3-4 inches taller, plus the high heels. And make feet look like boxes rather than attractive. I would imagine that orthopedic surgeons have had a field day the last few years with broken ankles, etc. There has been a rash of models falling on runways. This woman looks nice, neat and well groomed. You go, Girl!

She looks well in white but… The pants and shirt look dated. The vest is great and so is the bag. An untucked long sleeved tee and straight legged pants would have balanced the vest. Got to say, she is lovely and pulls this off better than most.

I think the look is very “on” trend right now I love it on her. She has the clutch, heels, necklace with texture and pattern, even the sunglasses has a subtle hint of pattern. The pants are perfect not too tight ,not too baggy. Sleek looking. This outfit can hide many mistakes lol

I don’t like the pants. I think she has a better figure than they show. And I don’t like the top either. Other than that I think she looks great. Such a beautiful face!
