04April   {Style Scout} The very BEST t-shirts for FOFs

Remember those days?  When a worn-in, fitted T (yes, even sans bra) was your sexiest asset? Well, for most of us, those days lasted for about 30 seconds. The rest of our lives are spent looking for t-shirts that are long enough, short enough, fitted--but not too fitted, thin--but not too thin, work-appropriate, soft but sturdy . . . you know what I mean. Well, relax, because this week, we did the work for you.  Our brilliant style scouts picked the best t-shirts just for FOFs--at every price point.

Plus, enter to win the fab scoopneck shirt from Fabrizio Gianni, below, in the color of your choice, when you answer this question in the comments below:  Do you have a favorite t-shirt?

Lilla P

.

FOF Style Scout Linda Cohen:
Lilla P is a company devoted to creating ‘the essential T.’ Their t-shirts feel deliciously soft but don't grab you in those places where you feel you have back fat or belly rolls. They also have great ¾-length sleeve options and even some Dolman-sleeve cuts.”
Our faves: The Stripe Rolled Sleep Bateau, $76; Flame ¾-sleeve button boatneck; The Classic ¾-sleeve Scoop, $50

Hanro

.

.

FOF Style Expert Sherrie Mathieson:
“I have alway liked Hanro for the softness, stretch and lasting power.” Hanro’s Classic, Everyday Cotton Tee ($64) is a mix of Egyptian cotton and elastane, so it provides a little extra support everywhere without being too tight. A classic, tailored tee that’s perfect for layering.

Fabrizio Gianni

.

FOF Style Experts Jojami and Deborah,
The Glam Gals, from Fabulous After 40:

“We think women over 40 look best in a V-neck or boatneck that skims the body nicely. Of course the shirts need to be high quality to withstand washing. The tops from Fabrizio Gianni are tops in our book! The fit and feel is so yummy and they come in so many colors that are hot for Spring! Classic Cotton Short Sleeve V-Neck, $42; Long Sleeve Scoop Neck, $85

Club Monaco & Fruit of the Loom

.

FOF Style Expert Glenyse Thompson:
“For t-shirts, I specifically love to recommend Club Monaco, which luckily for us, just opened it’s online shop. I don't purchase traditional women's Ts, as they usually fit me too tightly through the bust and waist. I buy Club Monaco men's tshirts ($28.50), with a bit of stretch. In a pinch I pick up a pack of Fruit of the Loom's V-Necks ($13.49 for a pack of 5) at Target or Walmart.”

Zara

.

.

FOF Style Scout Lovey Dash:
This season, I love the striped t-shirts from Zara. The fit is great--plenty of room in the bust and hip area; classic boatneck--not too high; good arm length--and a trillion colors. Best of all, only $16 each. Go Crazy!

My fav t-shirt is a Gap, v neck in White . I need about a dozen, always in my wardrobe selection, jeans to skirts!

No, my size and shape seem to always change so my favorite changes too. I’ll keep this e-mail for reference, thank you.

I have several J Crew “Slub cotton v-neck” tees because they are flattering, don’t fit me too tight but are still thin enough for layering, and come in lovely colors. Plus, they wash up beautifully.

I like the Stripe Rolled Sleep Bateau. There’s nothing more discouraging than putting on a tee, looking great from the front; and then turning to see the rolls of fat in the back. Give me a shirt to hide that please!

Sad to say, I don’t have a favorite tee. I’ve had really nice ones from Chico’s and j.jill, but I don’t know if they rise to the level of favorite. Maybe if I win one, that will become my favorite.

I have a long-sleeved black v-neck tee with a white peace logo on the back that I got at an arts and craft show. It is comfortable and I can wear under almost anything, since the logo and other embellishments do not show under jackets or sweaters. It has a little stretch in the fabric.

I love shirts that are wicking and are made of a warm fabric since Alaska is cool for most of the year. I love to layer my clothes and always try to look my best, whether I am teaching or just having fun outdoors!

My favorite t-shirt is from my favorite restaurant in the 1000 Islands. I wear it while working out or camping.

My favorite tee is a sunwashed pigment dyed blue t-shirt from LL Bean. Unfortunately they don’t sell them anymore. I am always on the lookout for cute tie-dye tees also!

Which tee shirt I prefer depends on the season. I live where winters are cold so my most beloved tees in those months are medium weight cotton blends, have long sleeves and turtlenecks to go under and compliment wool sweaters. In summer I like light weight all cotton or cotton/spandex blends, short sleeves, boat neck or higher round neck (to cover more of those ugly neck wrinkles you know). I like all my tees to be long enough to stay tucked in and not show the hem half way up my tush through pants or skirt. BTW, I never put my cotton knits in the dryer and they keep their shapes and sizes forever.

I love J Jill’s elbow sleeve Tees in scoop or v neck. The longer sleeve hides those dreaded “arm flaps” and the open necks keep you cooler when life is “flashing” by….the fabric is soft and wears and washes well. They are a little pricey but very affordable when on sale.

I like the Lilla P with the buttons near the neckline – I try to always pick a T with something on it to make it not boring

not really, I can’t seem to find one that fits like I want it to. I am thin and womens shirt are cut too big usually and junior are too young looking for me. I have any issue with the sleeves , I don’t want my upper arms to show since they feel like they flap in the wind….

My favorite t-shirts are from Petite Sophisticate. I’ve had them for many years in several colors. They’re a basic tee with a narrow satin-looking neckline.

If I win I would like the t in lilac or vela.

    Thank you.

I just love long sleeved T’s! I’m chilly most of the time! Even my hot flashes are only warm ones!
I’d love either mint or lilac!

My favorite T-Shirt is a T-Shirt that I have had for 15 years. It is a T-Shirt that has NewOrleans and a picture of a Saxophone playing Alligator. The shirt is a red scoop neck and I love it!

My fav tees are a turquoise v-neck w/short sleeves (brand unknown) and a pink scoop neck 3/4 length sleeve one (brand unknown). I hate tags, so I cut out all tags from anything with them on.
I am loving the description on the Hanro shirts – they sound soft & comfy, just like I like my t-shirts to be! But I do love the 3/4 length sccop neck t’s also.

I’m a T-shirt gal. I wear a T everyday in all different colors and styles. Love, love, love them and would love any one of these shown. I dress them up with bold jewelry which automatically becomes a statement. Would love to win Fabrizios scoop neck tee.

I have a Jimmy Hendrix shirt from when I saw him in concert back in 1968, or there about. I didn’t wear it for a long time. Now that I am past 50, I wear it to remind me that my mind is still that young!! It is blue/grey with a huge peace sign on the front, under his face.

I really like Columbia’s shirts that are quick-wicking and great for warm climates (I also do a lot of hiking which they are perfect for).

Since I am from Europe I have to say I love Hanro quality.
    J. Crew also has darling t-shirts.
The latest t-shirt I’ve fallen for is the Mossimo tissue tee. Such a soft, great basic t-shirt to wear under jackets, cardigans or just by itself.

Love the Hanro Classic Cotton Tee in white, grey and black.

    Thanks,
    Melitta

My favorite tee shirt for years has been a dark grey Gap long-sleeved thin tee. It’s so soft, and I wear it year-round (I’m in SF so it’s cold year-round), I wish I’d bought 5 because it kiils me when it’s in the wash!!

I’d like the Fabrizio Gianni in Red Stripe – so cool. Thank you for sharing all these tee shirt choices with us!
