04April   {Style Scout} The very BEST t-shirts for FOFs

Remember those days?  When a worn-in, fitted T (yes, even sans bra) was your sexiest asset? Well, for most of us, those days lasted for about 30 seconds. The rest of our lives are spent looking for t-shirts that are long enough, short enough, fitted--but not too fitted, thin--but not too thin, work-appropriate, soft but sturdy . . . you know what I mean. Well, relax, because this week, we did the work for you.  Our brilliant style scouts picked the best t-shirts just for FOFs--at every price point.

Plus, enter to win the fab scoopneck shirt from Fabrizio Gianni, below, in the color of your choice, when you answer this question in the comments below:  Do you have a favorite t-shirt?

Lilla P

.

FOF Style Scout Linda Cohen:
Lilla P is a company devoted to creating ‘the essential T.’ Their t-shirts feel deliciously soft but don't grab you in those places where you feel you have back fat or belly rolls. They also have great ¾-length sleeve options and even some Dolman-sleeve cuts.”
Our faves: The Stripe Rolled Sleep Bateau, $76; Flame ¾-sleeve button boatneck; The Classic ¾-sleeve Scoop, $50

Hanro

.

.

FOF Style Expert Sherrie Mathieson:
“I have alway liked Hanro for the softness, stretch and lasting power.” Hanro’s Classic, Everyday Cotton Tee ($64) is a mix of Egyptian cotton and elastane, so it provides a little extra support everywhere without being too tight. A classic, tailored tee that’s perfect for layering.

Fabrizio Gianni

.

FOF Style Experts Jojami and Deborah,
The Glam Gals, from Fabulous After 40:

“We think women over 40 look best in a V-neck or boatneck that skims the body nicely. Of course the shirts need to be high quality to withstand washing. The tops from Fabrizio Gianni are tops in our book! The fit and feel is so yummy and they come in so many colors that are hot for Spring! Classic Cotton Short Sleeve V-Neck, $42; Long Sleeve Scoop Neck, $85

Club Monaco & Fruit of the Loom

.

FOF Style Expert Glenyse Thompson:
“For t-shirts, I specifically love to recommend Club Monaco, which luckily for us, just opened it’s online shop. I don't purchase traditional women's Ts, as they usually fit me too tightly through the bust and waist. I buy Club Monaco men's tshirts ($28.50), with a bit of stretch. In a pinch I pick up a pack of Fruit of the Loom's V-Necks ($13.49 for a pack of 5) at Target or Walmart.”

Zara

.

.

FOF Style Scout Lovey Dash:
This season, I love the striped t-shirts from Zara. The fit is great--plenty of room in the bust and hip area; classic boatneck--not too high; good arm length--and a trillion colors. Best of all, only $16 each. Go Crazy!

My favorite tshirts are v-necks with short (not cap) sleeves. I don’t have a true favorite brand right now.

Right now, my favorite t-shirt is the ballet neck, 3/4 sleeve Talbot’s shirt. It fits well, is a good length, has a bit of stretch, and is reliable….

I have many favorite T shirts, I love looking in a draw and finding one I haven’t worn in a while. Its like shopping at home, I do have many and the softer the better. I could always find room for a new one, and a scoop neck would be FABULOUS.

Don’t have a favorite, but I like soft, cotton t-shirts that are slightly fitted so they don’t look like a box.

Love my Athleta long-sleeve t-shirt – it has shirred sides, not-too-low scoop neck and a neat shirred spot on the back. Gives me a little extra style and shaping!!!
    Plus it’s crazy comfy!

I think my favorite Tee would have to be the Croft and Barrow label from Kohls Dept. Store. It’s cotton, with a bit of spandex, comes in many patterns and solid and creates a pulled together look by adding a casual skirt, pants or jeans!

I have an Old Navy tee with some crochet on the top. I have it one in black and one in eggshell that I got the clearance rack years ago. I never want to say goodbye.

I have never paid anywhere near $85.00 for a t-shirt. If I ever did, this would be the style I would choose…….long sleeves and scoopneck. I do wear t-shirts when I work in my flower garden and my favorite has a big orb-web spider on the front………a la Charlotte. Most people shudder when they see it but I know spiders are our friends. With out them and the birds and other critters, we would be overrun with “bugs”.

Yes, I have an array of tees (they suit the casual lifestyle in Central Florida), and my current favorite is a fabulously flattering shade of pure, bright blue, with 3/4 sleeves and a scoop neck, fitted top and sort of a fly-away hem. It looks great (as do all my “decent” tees) with white jeans.

I don’t have a favourite brand, but I do prefer a v-neck solid-colour t-shirt that is fitted rather than baggy.
    Thanks for the great post!

My favorite tee shirt was purchased at the opera house in Vienna. I like the color and the illlustration. It reminds me of what a wonderful time I had.

I just had to throw it out because it had worn thin. It was by Lix Clairborn. Can’t spell it right. Fit perfect, very comfortable and looked nice.

I have a favorite tee that has no lable and I don’t know where I bought it, but it is the first one I grab to wear and has held up great. It is getting a little old so winning this would be a great way to find a new one.

I have some Lauren Ts that fit well and last for years. I like boat or v neck with 3/4 sleeves. Also, white Ts from GAP when they carry simple ones with nice cuts. A little stretch is good.

Hard to say a favorite – I have dozens of work-out shirts from my running days and 10K races, most of which conjure good memories and are still comfie for exercising. Up-a-notch casual wear or dressy Ts to wear under jackets at work I’ve had good luck with Croft and Barrow, and Talbots.

I don’t have a favorite but several of them….you just can’t beat a white v neck that works well with everything though.

I have a t-shirt I bouight years ago from a local store “T-shirts & Things” that I absolutely love. It’s so soft and I live in it when not working, it’s my “go to” shirt at night when lounging around.

My favorite T-Shirt is the Perfect Tee from Gap I bought about six years ago. Still my go-to Tee after all this time. It fits in the shoulders and tapers at the waist plus it it’s longer length suits my style.

I live in t-shirts most of the year. I have over 100 Eileen Fisher t-shirts, mostly 100 percent cotton or 90 percent organic cotton and 10 percent lycra, although I have silk, rayon, viscose, and all of her other blends. I favor short or cap sleeves, only slightly structured through the body, but I have long and 3/4 sleeves as well. Can you tell I am a t-shirt afficionada?

My favorite t-shirt is a bright yellow, short-sleeved fitted one from Chico’s. It is cut a little longer and is very flattering!

Eileen Fisher makes the most fabulous tee’s in many fabrics, styles and fits. Costly but well made and long lasting.

I have a Lucky T-Shirt that is several years old. It is a white scoop neck with a bit of cream colored embroidered thread on the bottom right. I can’t give it up. It is 100% cotton and I feel great when I wear it!
