05January   {Giveaway} 1960s Vintage Fashion Illustration
FOF Liz Glasgow is giving away "Cyd," a 1960s fashion illustration 9"X 12" print from her brilliant biz, The White Cabinet.

To enter, tell us in the comments below: What era of fashion did you like the best?

Thank you for entering. This contest is now closed.

As a little girl, FOF Liz Glasgow loved art and crafts, much to the delight of her mother Hilda, a top New York fashion illustrator.

"We had a workroom with a metal closet that housed all the drawings, papers, art supplies and cameras," says Liz. "Whenever I needed something art related, Mom would tell me it was in the white cabinet."

Now, 50 years later, Liz has made her name as a freelance photographer for leading architects, interior designers and top publications such as Elle Decor and Woman's Day. The white cabinet from her childhood has lived on, although her mother, Hilda, passed away in 2004 at the age of 91.

Today, the white cabinet resides in Liz's Hamptons home and houses 80 drawings spanning Hilda's career as an illustrator for Vogue, Saks Fifth Avenue and Best & Co.

"I've had her drawings hidden away and am now offering them to the world," says Liz. Just last year, she launched a virtual White Cabinet where customers can order custom, printed Gicleé reproductions that mimic the look and feel of the originals. Currently there are 50 illustrations available on the site ranging from the 1940s-1970s, and Liz plans to release the rest in the near future. Later this year, the prints will be sold as wallpaper by Flavor Paper

"These drawings have lived in that cabinet for 60 years or so," says Liz. "I  found it only fitting for them to reside there virtually online as well."

Enter to win "Cyd," a 1960s fashion illustration print, by answering this question in the comments, below: What era of fashion did you like the best?

Definitely consider that that you stated. Your favorite justification seemed to be on the net the simplest thing to consider of. I say to you, I certainly get annoyed whilst other folks think about issues that they plainly do not recognise about. You managed to hit the nail upon the top and outlined out the whole thing with no need side-effects , people can take a signal. Will probably be again to get more. Thanks

I love Current Fashion – Fashion this Era. It’s always new & exciting…yet always seems to incorporate bits & pieces of previous eras. Love not knowing what’s coming next!

I love the 60′s. Just a child, I remember the cool clothes my aunts wore. They were a few years younger than my mom so the were still single and wore the short skirts, fish nets and go go boots. Loved Laura Petrie’s and Ann Marie’s wardrobe!

I like the fashion of today…Women of my era (50 ) have so much choice in what they can wear and with a little bit of thought and effort can look comfortable or classic and chic. I am excited to think that we women have the power to choose our life style and fashion style because of our independence, which in days gone by was frowned upon.

I think it is fun to mix different eras fashions in eclectic ways and make your own statement, and since I am in my sixties have lots of different era’s to mix and match, lol!!!

I loved the fashions of the 60′s…I graduated from High School in 1965…(Of course, I thought my go-go boots and mini-skirts were sooo cool). Our generation was not afraid to make a statement in our lifestyles…not just in fashion!!

60s fahions are my favorites – from shift dresses and pillbox hats to mini skirts and bright colors – I love it all. And I love seeing all of the simply divine drawings from the White Cabinet. Fantastic!

The 60′s heralded in an explosion of music like the Monkees which we sang loudly walking home from school with arms linked together. The wild geometrics and bold florals dressed clothes and homegoods. Layering clothes began. At school, the dress code for guys was no T-shirts. And for girls, dresses, skirts and pant suits were the norm. We could only wear the pantsuit top if it was fingertip length so it was more like a shortish dress over pants. Tights in winter was the usual along with stirrup pants. We wanted to wear mini-dresses, but were limited to dances and church.

My fav era was the 20′s with the art nouveau and flapper look. I love the layers of tassles and the freedom of dance and the drama in art and bobbed hair of the time.

As a teenager in the l960′s, I liked at the time the mini skirts and hot pants. However, I really like the dressy dresses I see on todays young ladies at the awards shows like ACM and Peoples Choice and Sarah Jessica Parker’s Sex and the City style.

40s/50s/60s – so hard to choose between those three eras….

But if I had to choose, I think it would have to be the 40s – love the cuts!

My fav era would be the 50′s. I so love the poodle skirts, the leather jackets, the flats, and the cropped pants. I could go on and on. If you look closely enough allot of what some people wear today came right out of the 50′s.

I am so intrigued by the 40′s era that I swear I lived it. So many of the style’s they had are as if I lived in that era. I am constantly watching movies and falling more and more in love with the fashion then. I only wish that the 40 era would reappear ! So much class and style beyond any other. Give me Bogart !

I love the Twiggy era! The mini dresses and go-go boots were amazing! It seemed like we were experiencing a totally new way of viewing the world at that time! Music was changing, fashion was changing and the way we view our world was changing! It was such an exciting time to be alive! And everything felt so alive! Yes, we had the Vietnam war. And there was a lot of anguish over civil rights, the war, etc. But I view those as growing pains.
The fashion at that time was vibrant, mod, hip and so daring! I love the use of bold colors and strong designs, even those inspired from other countries such as India. Love it!

I love all eras of fashion because every era, every year, every style that chases the golden glow of popularity gives every woman the opportunity to showcase her own unique style and personality.

If I have to pick one, I’s have to say the 50′s. It screams femininity. Any other era after 1920 was fashion by necessity. When women were not limited by economics or politics, they dressed like women. Tight waists, full hips, big hats, delicate shoes, softness. I love that and use it in my own personal style. What I like about the 21st century is anything goes. If you wear it well.

Women dressed so elegantly in the early 50′s. The full skirts, cinched waistlines, gorgeous costume jewelry… I’ve tried to save as much of my Mom’s stuff as possible, including her crinolines, long gloves, handkerchiefs and scarves. Also saved is a glamorous satin robe which she wore on her honeymoon.

I loved the fashion era of the 60′s!! Bright colors, daring hemlines, fun designs of paisley, fishnet hose, go-go boots, Mary Jane shoes, Gunni Sax long dresses and does anyone remember the year we wore decorative bloomers that might have matched something in the dress?? Got sent home from school for wearing that one, hahaha.

I love the styles from the 60s. They were so creative! Their unstructured qualities really freed up women. However, I have alwasy been deeply attracted by the glamour of the 30s when dressing up in beautiful and highly structured clothing was the thing to do.

I love fashion NOW-there is a bit of everything, and even for us FOF’s, there are lovely, sexy designs. And we have access to so much beautiful color in fabrics, and the availability of design from all over the world, and accessories that are not only spectacular, but also affordable.

Hmm..Well,I came of age in the 70′s, so not my fave when I see it all coming around again! If only I would have saved a few things, but that is beginning to be a looong time ago now! I love looking @ my parents wedding photo and all the pictures my mother saved when she and her many sisters were growing up and then grown.A favorite is a picture of my mom as a maid of honor in the late 40′s.She was so beautiful!I don’t know how comfortable she was,but comfort is only important if your FOF,right? Can’t we have comfort and great style?

I think the 50′s were beautiful…and I remember seeing some of your mom’s drawings as a young girl, still figuring out what I wanted to be when I grew up, and how much of a lady I wanted to be, too. I don’t remember ever seeing anyone in real life who looked like your mom’s drawings – maybe that’s what made them so mystical! I remember “sighing” alot when I saw them.

My favorite era of fashion is from the 40′s the clothing is feminine, the jewelry is dramatic and I can find lots of items from that era just everywhere I shop in resale stores in AZ.
