"Mangos . . . when you peel the skin to get to the delicious orange flesh of the mango and its oozing juice all over. Then you cut into the fruit to the pit in the center and try to separate the flesh from the pit and it's really hard but so worth it!"

"If you can find Zapotes, please try them. They are delicious, peachy, fleshy fruit. Especially cubes of Zapotes dipped in chocolate (cocoa - another exotic fruit). Sooooo goooood! Just like Avocados (another of my favorite exotic fruits) you can eat Zapotes in many different ways. They are a refreshment in drinks or smoothies, nutritious in salads, sweet in sauces and soups, a wonderful desert or spicy with a sprinkle of chili om top. All fruits are amazing in their own rights and it is hard to choose just one. To win this trip and be able to enjoy some local fruits right from the trees would be a treat of a lifetime. Especially after a long run of unfortunate events. To be in Honduras for a few short days would be a slice of heaven. "

"I can recall it as if it were only yesterday, eating the wonderful tropical fruits from our backyard and the ones my precious grandpa would bring us. I grew up in the southern most tip of Texas, by the Mexican border and we ate all types of tropical fruits. I can remember hardly being able to wait for the papayas, peaches, oranges, and avacados to ripen in our backyard so we could have our fill. But my best memories were of my grandpa bringing us all types of tropical fruits to eat. My most favorite fruit was mangos. I loved the different colors and the sweet smell of the mangos as I peeled them. I always waited with anticipation and excitement for the rich, delicious flavor once it hit my taste buds!!! We had so many tropical fruits growing in the backyard that it was always a treat no matter what ripe papayas, oranges, peaches. and even avacados. I think this is why even today my mouth still waters with the vivid rememberances of eating mangos with my sisters in our backyard. "

"My favoirte tropical fruit is Guanabana because it is one of the first fruits that I fed my daughter, Katie. We adopted her in Colombia and they sold guanabana baby food in the stores. She loved it! Years later when we were visiting a Mexican shaman at his house she mentioned it to him. He went into his yard and cut one right off of one of his trees and handed it to her with a big smile. The flesh of the Guanabana is a pale green color similar to Kiwi and it also tastes a bit like Kiwi fruit. It is not easy to find in the US, but Goya makes a Guanabana Nectar fruit juice."

Its root bark can also be used as an antidote for poisoning and the white pulpy flesh for all types of stomach ailments. My dad has since passed away and I have not eaten the fresh version of this fruit in over thirty years but it is one of my most cherished memories of my childhood. heumatism. "
