I'm an artist living in the Delaware Water Gap region of PA. Moved here from NYC 6 yrs ago, love it but, there are no art, cultural institutions or museums here. I want to start an artist lab or collective where artists can meet, share, create, exhibit, grow, etc. Looking for sapce & volunteers.

I'm in Katonah, NY but actually head down to Philly several times a year (I will be there this week) for work and friends. I will forward this question on to my contacts there and let you know their insights! You are not too distant from The Barnes Foundation which is an amazing art hub in Merion, PA. http://www.barnesfoundation.org should get you in the right direction. Let's be in touch as you progress!

Thanks so much. That's a great idea. In NY today. I was asked to create a signature bracelet for an organization called WARM We All Really Matter. They assist women recovering from domestic violence situations with housing, food, employment resources etc. Very happy to donate my time and talents to the cause.

I suggest that you gather the contacts you have made in six years you have been there and first start a salon that begins with a core group meeting at local businesses such as coffee shops. Engage the community and the space will appear.

I'm working on that right now. Also looking for a job. It's frustrating and time consuming.

I understand and empathize. I just added your silver cowrie necklace on my etsy (Surdut) as a favorite and added you to my circle.

You might consider putting a clever ad in the paper. There may be a few people who will respond and that's a start. Word of mouth is actually the best. Without knowing I bet you have some friends who are interested. It just takes that first step on your part.

Just getting started and picking up speed. That's the thing I know very few people here. On a mission to change that.

Linkedin.com is also another great way to connect with other artists (or any number of other types of professionals and it's free) and find people to work with and get great ideas. And, of course, there's always Facebook, but then you are open to the world and there can be risks associated with than as I am sure you know. Good luck!
