Touchback Marker

ImageWill this handy little "marker" really cover your roots?

Posted on July 14, 2010

Touchback Marker ($29.95 at ulta.com) is a temporary hair color in marker form. The company claims that it bonds to the hair for a totally natural look; has no harsh chemicals so it's gentle on the hair; delivers the perfect amount of color because of the fiber flow applicator; dries in minutes and won't flake or rub off. They promise it will save you time and money between colorings. But what did our testers think . . .?

ImageTester: Pam Frame

"I was so excited to be able to try TouchBack. I was going on vacation when it arrived and the timing couldn’t have been better. Although my hair does not have an abundance of gray, I hate it when the gray starts to show even a little. My hair is highlighted an ash blonde and I thought this product would be perfect. Unfortunately, that was not the case. Maybe it is because it is a blonde color but no matter what I did, it would not really cover the gray. The color it did deposit was very dull looking. The worst part was that it made my hair extremely stiff and sticky. It was as if I had not washed my hair in days which made combing or brushing it impossible. It does come with a small comb to be placed under your hair at the scalp to keep the color off your skin but then it leaves the gray at the scalp. The concept is great but the product itself needs some more work."

"Having never used a product like this, I truly went into this road test blind. I thought the application would have been more difficult than it was. I followed the directions, and applied TouchBack to my silver roots and abracadabra the tell tale signs of aging took some time off. It lasted until I washed my hair. Luckily I road tested this during a dry period of weather, so I was able to enjoy the color longer.
I can honestly say, TouchBack works, and buys you some time before your next coloring. I would definitely buy this product."

ImageTester: Gwen Surell

"The Touchback marker was easy to use and dried instantly. I did not use very much of it however, because the color did not match my hair very well. I tested the golden blonde which is darker than my natural hair color. The Touchback marker shampooed out easily. I would not use this product as it was not natural looking to me."

ImageTester: Valeria Orosa

"The Touchback temporary hair color marker is really great. I have a white patch in the back of my head and in other areas as well. I have been getting my hair professionally colored for a few years now but the white patches become visible within 2 to 3 weeks. I have decided to color my hair at home because of the price. I find that the Touchback Marker really helps those in between times. Why didn't someone come up with this product before? I am sure I'll be purchasing it in the future."

ImageTester: Marilyn Wald

"The Touchback Marker did away with my annoying peek-a-boo gray roots. My hair is colored light brownish blonde and I selected the darkest blonde, ash blonde. I appreciate the instructions inside the box which were large enough for my 60 year old eyes. I will definitely continue to use this product and look forward to stretching my visits to the salon."

"I am a copper (medium) redhead. I wanted to know if any redheads out there tried this and if so did it work?"

Touchback Marker
"I was not one of the "official" testers but bought this product a few months ago. I thought it was very expensive and it did not seem cover the roots easily or well. It reminded me of a marker. I went and purchased a "washable" Crayola Marker in a brown color and used it on my roots. I was amazed at the result for a fraction of the cost and have been using it ever since."

I've been dreaming of something that would do this
"Funny thing,I was wondering if there was something on the market like this. My hair is white but I have it done blond. It doesn't show up that much when my roots grow out but it would be nice to blend in my roots. I wouldn't have to go to the salon so often."

Touch Back Marker
"This hair color thing is driving me crazy...at 69 I have forgotten what color my hair really is so it changes every 5 weeks. I want a permanent solution that will only require a little TBM for a quick fix between colors. Sigh! b http://www.retireinstyleblog.com"

touch ups
"Salon color is very expensive and being unemployed I try to extend getting my hair colored as long as possible. I have tried various products to touch up my hair and so far haven't found anything really great. This sounds too similar to all the others on the market to try. One trick that a saleswoman at Sephora taught me was to take a disposable mascara brush and run it through the touched up areas. It helps to blend the color in."

"My hair grows so fast. I have to touch up the color every 3 weeks. This product looks to be fast and easy. It also looks less messy. I would love to try this product."

"This is wonderful. I have very grey resistant hair so it loses the color very fast and I don't always have time to retouch the color. Love this!"

Sounds great!
"Would love to try this product, but it would have to be waterproof. I teach aquatics and the back ends of my hair, in particular, bleach out all the time. Wonder if this would work for me in spite of being in the water all of the time."

A Little Dab here
"I nerver used a product like this before so I was a little apprehensive. The directions were easy to follow and the results were delightful. I only needed to apply it to my temples and it dried easily. "

Oh those tale, tale gray hairs
"I would love to try this product; as it seems most fabulous women do; I add a little color to my hair - but the roots do tend to "bleed" through faster with age. This would be a great way to reduce the full color process for a few days or maybe a week. Thank you for the product and the opportunity to test it."
