“I was a devoted potholder designer when I was a kid. Now I’m FOF and, instead of weaving stretchy loops of fabric, I hand weave gold and platinum to create award-winning jewels.

Image  My precious ribbons, ruffles, spirals and loops – often accompanied by special pearls and  gemstones – become pendants, necklaces, brooches and earrings. Please visit www.BarbaraBerkDesigns.com to see my jewels and learn about my weaving techniques.

Image“I found my true passion to design jewelry after earning my Master’s Degree in Russian and European History and serendipitously getting an introduction to antique jewelry. My work is represented in the permanent jewelry collections of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston and the Museum of the Gemological Institute of America, Carlsbad, CA. and in many books and magazines. I also teach workshops and classes at art centers and schools nationwide.”

"Dear Barbara: Your Art is absolutely Beautiful! So unique and natural looking Thanks for sharing! I appreciated your story/background "being the potholder" quuen as a kid! I wa beginning to believe I was the only person who remembered those "potholder looms". When my grand daughter is here I am always teaching her things that I did as a little girl and this past visit I wanted so much to begin teaching her this "lost art"! I can not find those looms for the life of me, and when I ask people either look at me like I'm crazy or I spark an old memory in their minds too. I know your busy bust if you could give me any direction as to where I might find those looms I would greatly appreciate it ( Aubrey would too)! Thank you in advance for your courteous attention to my request. Keep up with your passions and your Beautiful work! Regards, Ronnie"
