Reconstructing A Child’s Life

When the public thinks of plastic surgeons, it most often thinks of the cosmetic side of the profession: The facelifts, tummy tucks and Botox injections. The other side—reconstructive surgery—may be far from glamorous, but it’s often a life-saving profession, physically and emotionally. Consider, for instance, what Dr. John Van Aalst is doing to help a severely deformed child from India. Adopted after his birth parents wanted to euthanize him, baby Adam was brought to the United States to see Dr. Van Aalst because of his reputation and expertise in the pediatric arena. As Associate Professor of Surgery, Director of Pediatric and Craniofacial Plastic Surgery at the University of North Carolina Department of Surgery, he is one of the foremost specialists in the world on deformities as extensive and dramatic as Adam’s.

FabOverFifty congratulates Dr. Van Aalst for his passion and success thus far in helping Adam to become the little boy he deserves to be. Please watch this video and be thankful that we have doctors like him to come to our children’s sides during times of great stress and need.
