10 years ago I had an emergency hysterectomy for fibroids. I was left with a scar in my lower abdomen and a pouch of hanging skin and fat (sort of like a bike tire) above the incision. Is this typical after a hysterectomy? What is needed to correct it?

This is not a normal result, but can be corrected with a mini tummy tuck or sometimes simply a scar revision with a small about of liposuction. We would, of course, have you schedule a consultation to go over your expectations and goal you wish to achieve.

What you are presenting is not a typical result after a hysterectomy, but I have seen it from time-to-time. It usually reflects the adherence of the incision to the deeper tissues with the remaining skin and fat draping in a downward manner due to gravity and maybe loss of skin tone. The correction can vary from Liposuction alone, Liposuction with Smart Lipo to tighten the skin, Scar revision, Mini Tummy Tuck or a Full Tummy Tuck. You would need to be examined to determine which surgical option would be appropriate for you, but I can assure you that there is a solution for your problem.

This can happen. I assume the scar is horizontal, in the same location where a C-section scar would be. Of course you would need to be evaluated. You may be able to correct this with a scar revision or possibly a mini- or full tummy tuck. Hope this helps.
