Is Xeomen which I understand is being used instead of Botox also a poison ? Does it have the same risks as Botox? Is it as effective?

Xeomin, Dysport and Botox are all neurotoxins that can reduce dynamic lines and wrinkles on the face and neck. They are all effective. I have the most experience with Botox, so that’s the product I offer to my patients.

Using the word “poison” to describe some of the most highly valued and useful medications we have available today might fulfill a technical or scientific definition but is not really a great choice of words! Local anesthetics, anesthesia medications, pain pills – all of these work by blocking the normal functions of the body in some way to produce very desirable and helpful effects. Yes – Botox®, Xeomin®, and Dysport® are all slightly different chemical version of purified botulinum toxin. But what they can do for us is actually amazing! These wonderful medications are all characterized by extremely low risks, minimal (if any) side effects or complications, and relatively low costs. They are all quite effective in softening (and often in eliminating) troublesome lines, creases and folds of the face in a way that results in a natural, rejuvenated, rested and pleasant look. Consulting with a board certified plastic surgeon to see if one or another might represent a better choice for you sounds like your next important step!

Xeomin is a neurotoxin like Botox. It is different from Botox in that it doesn’t have a protein molecule attached to it. It works the same way as botox and has the same efficacy. It is not as well known as Botox, so make sure you ask for it before you make your appointment. Good Luck
