I’m 48 and I hate the turkey neck/ jowls I’m getting. Is it too soon to have a procedure to tighten this area?

I have always said that the ideal age range for this procedure is between 47 and 57 years of age. Now that being said, it needs to be bother you and your surgeon needs to agree that it is bad enough to warrant surgery. If you think it would improve your self esteem or your life in some way then that is probably a good idea. Over the last ten years, we have proven that doing a face and neck lift at a younger age like you is a better idea than waiting till you are 60 and not enjoying your look this whole time. While you are at your current age, your collagen is more robust and your skin more stretchy like a rubber band. As you get older it becomes like tissue paper. Therefore, the results are usually better at the younger end of the spectrum.

Your age is not unusual for one to begin to see signs of aging in the face, namely jowls and laxity of the skin under the chin. The skin is losing elasticity and giving in to the effects of gravity. Long time exposure to the sun can accelerate this process. If you are relatively healthy from a medical standpoint, you are likely a good candidate for a facelift which helps to set the clock back a few years.

The neck lift is a quick way to reduce jowls, eliminate a double chin, slim the bands of muscle that form the wattle, and tighten neck skin. Often, liposuction alone can help resculpt this area and tighten loose skin. Today with Smart Lipo ,light can provide finer resculpturing of the neck and jowls. If greater tightening of the skin is required, it can often be done with tiny incisions behind the ear. These procedures can be performed as an outpatient without the need for general anesthesia allowing for a quick recovery. It’s possible to do this on a Friday and be back to work on Monday!
