I have a mini facelift and necklift done about 5 years ago. Unfortunately, the necklift turned out to be very “mini” and I really want to have it redone. If I only have a necklift done this time, where will the incisions be placed? Is it possible to get a good result from a necklift revision?

Revisions on a facelift are not that involved. If it is only the neck skin that is bothering you a localized neck lift would work with access incisions behind the ear. If you are concerned about excessive jowls and deep nasolabial folds a more full approach may be better. Only an exam can tell for sure.

It is possible to have just a neck lift. Incisions are typically placed behind the ears and down through the hairline neck area. Relaxation of tissues can occur over the years thus justifying a “re-do” or “touch-up.” An evaluation would be necessary to assess the neck issue and further explain what the procedure would involve.

In general, a secondary facelift can be done. The facelift procedure often times involves addressing the neck as well. An incision under the chin and some type of incision around the ear is usually needed. try and obtain the operative report from your surgeon if you are seeking a second opinion so the second surgeon can see what was done at the time.

To answer your question regarding the placement of the incisions, more than likely they would be in the same area but possibly longer incisions. There could be incisions up under the chin. It is a question with several variables. I would suggest scheduling a couple of consultations with board certified plastic surgeons in your area.
