Is there anything that can be done about those deep vertical lines above my upper lip? Even though I’ve never smoked, it looks as though I might’ve been a chain smoker! Other than that, my skin is relatively smooth (except for my crow’s feet, which I don’t really mind).

Thank you for your question regarding the vertical lip lines that so many people struggle with. The cause of those lines is usually a combination of genetics, repetitive muscle movement, and sun exposure. The use of small doses of Botox can help prevent the lines from getting worse, and it also helps to soften them over time. We have been performing Fractional CO2 laser treatments to help significantly improve the appearance of these lines in appropriate patients. I encourage you to come in for a consultation at Ben Hugo Plastic Surgery so we can determine what treatment is best for you.

Thank you for your question. The so called “smoker’s lines” around your lips may be caused by a number of factors including sun exposure, skin laxity, genetics and increased muscle activity. Prevention of lines includesthe use of sunscreen daily and moisturizer. The appearance of the lines may be lessened with fillers. The best treatment however, is a chemical peel or laser treatment provided you don’t have dark or deeply pigmented skin color. In certain patients small amounts of Botox may be used to decrease the muscle movement around your lips and the lines caused by this movement. It is best for you to consult with a Board Certified Plastic Surgeon to help you make the right decision. I would be delighted for you to schedule a consultation with me at Walker Plastic Surery.

Thank you for the questions. Deep vertical line on the lips may be secondary to a combination of sun exposure, muscle movement and genetics. We cannot do much about the genetic but we can take a proactive role in the other two. Sun protection not only the skin but only on our lips. There are a number of lipsticks or lip balms that contact sun protection. To lessen the lines, options include the use of fillers to plump out the skin, Botox in very small doses to lessen muscle contractions and laser resurfacing. In order to decide what is right for you I welcome you to schedule a consultation at New Image Plastic Surgery
