I am a 31 yr old female, with no kids. Would like to get liposuction, in my mid area. I am 5″8 176lbs. Should I wait after I have kids, to get the procedure done? Or can I get it done now and still maintain my figure after child birth?

    Dear….
Liposuction is an ideal procedure for body contouring and removal of fat from stubborn pockets that don’t go away despite weight loss. The stubborn pockets are genetic so they will be there before and after pregnancy. The best time for liposuction is when you can fit it in your work/life schedule.
Liposuction can survive pregnancy if you exercise and return to your prior body weight. Your body will change with each pregnancy, how much it will change is variable.
If you would like to discuss any further questions in detail with Dr. Fodero, we would be happy to schedule a complimentary consultation for you. To schedule please call us at 973-295-6565, you can also check out our website http://www.northeasternplasticsurgery.com

Liposuction is a very common procedure that I perform on women both before and after pregnancy. If you are considering becoming pregnant soon, I would suggest you wait until after your pregnancy and subsequent recovery to be evaluated for cosmetic surgery. If you do not have any immediate plans for becoming pregnant, you can have liposuction surgery now (provided you are a candidate). I would be happy to consult with you and evaluate you to determine if this procedure is appropriate for you. – Theodore Diktaban, MD, FACS – Double Board Certified Plastic Surgeon – New York, NY

If a poochy tummy is bothering you, then lipo will probably be the correct procedure. It is one of the most common plastic surgical procedures done today and should not interfere with having children. See an experienced board certified plastic surgeon and discuss it in person. Only a physical examination will allow me to let you know if you are a good candidate. But with your BMI you should be.

Each patient needs to be evaluated, however, generally patients who have liposuction before pregnancy do not have any issues post pregnancy. Many of our patients come to us before they have had children to get a liposuction procedure done.

The first consultation for our office for possible liposuction is with one of our nurses who will take your medical history and photos to review with Dr. Sullivan to determine if you are a good candidate for this procedure. If it is determined that you are a good candidate, the next consultation would be with Dr. Sullivan. Also there is no assurance that your body will not change after child birth–. The recommendation would be if you are thinking of getting pregnant soon to come to see us after your pregnancy for possible surgery as we will have a better idea of your body contour. Please contact us if we can help–our office is in Providence RI 401-831-8300

That’s a great question. You could be a great candidate for liposuction however only a face-to-face evaluation can really determine that. As for a tummy tuck, it is almost usually best to wait until you are done having children.

Thank you for your question. Unlike an abdominoplasty, liposuction can satisfactorily be performed before a pregnancy. I would also have to examine your abdomen to access the skin quality. Please call our office for a consultation so we may discuss the options further and in more detail. We look forward to meeting you soon.

Liposuction is not a weight loss procedure. It is a body contouring procedure. Women can usually have liposuction before or after pregnancy, but a full medical history and examination must be performed to determine if the procedure can or should be performed at this point in time.
