I dress less formally now that I’m over 50 and semi-retired. No suits if I can help it. But I need a “Mother of the Groom” dress, and shopping for one is a nightmare. They all have low cut fronts and backs, or they’re on the opposite end and look dowdy! Manufacturers don’t realize there are millions of women over the age of 50 who are major consumers!

I wear jeans fairly often, but leggings even more often. I’m a stay at home blogger! They’re comfortable and I style my outfits! I don’t expose my flabby upper arms, so no sleeveless tops without something over them. I layer a lot! I prefer casual to dress up. I wear form fitting clothing carefully and usually use them as a layer underneath. I shop to fit my taste, not trends. Though being a lifestyle blogger for women over 50, I am exposed to the current trends constantly and tend to find things that appeal to me each season. I don’t mindlessly follow fashion. I have my own style and that’s what you should have at any age. Why should turning 50 suddenly change that?

I just read a new book “Style Forever: The Grown-up Guide to Looking Fabulous” by Alyson Walsh. It is hilarious and helpful if you need some help standing on your own two feet to have your own style. Her language was a bit crude for my taste at times, but she put it out there. Find your style and buy the best of that style that you can afford. Then stand your ground with it. I’ve always felt that way. Clothes are fun! They should reflect your personality! Look in the mirror (and I mean the tall one, from all angles) …does your outfit reflect your personality?

Part of me is surprised at these statistics…and part of me is not. At 56 years I feel more vibrant, stronger, tone and healthier than I did 20 years ago! I’m not a statistic and beat the odds – and you can too! <3 Patricia Garza Pinto http://www.transformotion.com

Wear leggings in the gym, wear jeans or cargo pants during the day, and whatever takes my fancy from body con through palazzo pants and bias cut dresses when ever I go out, and yes, my ‘best’ coat is scarlet, just right for funerals!!

I will dress how I want my age will not dictate how I dress. Too much stereotyping

Very accurate comments, its an entirely different way of dressing once you hit your 50’s. Wish more companies would take info like this into account when designing their clothes.

Corinne, there are quite a few blogs on Google+ for women looking for just that information. My own blog is for women over 50. I provide looks as inspiration and my take on how and why to wear something like the outfit I show. I usually show three outfits around a theme each day Monday – Friday. You are certainly welcome to drop by and check it out. https://www.bluecatreview.us/
