{What do you think of this look?}

With her black leather motorcycle jacket and ankle boots, the only thing this FOF is missing is her Harley. But, was she asleep at the wheel when she got dressed? We asked our style experts to decide. Read their responses, then tell us what you think: Is this FOF biker chic or fashion roadkill?

Sherrie Mathieson: “Reminds me of Mammy Yokum in a ‘Li’l Abner’ cartoon. Undoubtedly, her wish was to be hip and cool but instead, she succeeds at looking silly. [I bet] she’s comfortable, but she would have been way ahead had she nixed the boots that swallow her bare legs and instead, worn black ballerina flats.”

Sherrie Mathieson is a leading style expert and Random House author of Steal this Style and Forever Cool.

Lovey Dash: “Let me just say I would not wear this look for all the tea in China. However it works, not for me, but for her…The jacket is great and I love the tee with the necklace. I also love the boots. If the skirt were shorter, then she could have been okay without tights. But since it’s not, she should have worn Wolford opaque or micro fishnet tights. All in all not fashion roadkill, not biker chic but, she pulled it off.”

Lovey Dash is a Beverly Hills-based stylist. She was formerly in VIP sales for Louis Vuitton on Rodeo Drive.

Deborah Boland and Jojami Tyler  (The Glam Gals): “BOOT this look out the door! This gal isn’t sure if she is a private school student or a motorcycle gang member and those boots look like galoshes you’d throw on to wade in your bathroom if your toilet overflowed.”

“Glam Gals” Jojami Tyler and Deborah Boland co-write the brilliant fashion blog, Fabulous After 40.

Glenyse Thompson: “[She’s] fashion roadkill. The whole outfit is wrong. I understand the need for protection if you ride a motorcycle or scooter, but you can still dress fashionably and protect yourself. 1981 is calling and it wants that skirt back. A pair of fitted pants would have easily made this outfit a ‘do.'”

Glenyse Thompson is a personal home and wardrobe stylist and the creator of Styleosophy.

Susan Grant: “This ensemble works well and is age appropriate with the exception of the footwear. The height of the boot and its tight fit over the ankle looks awkward. I would add black tights and swap the ankle boots for a knee-high, flat boot or a low-heeled pump for a more polished look.”

Susan Grant is merchandise manager for Muse, a full-service jewelry showroom.

Either lose the skirt and replace it with a pair of well-fitting dark denim jeans, or lose the jacket and boots and replace them with something in a burgundy or perhaps navy color. Two completely different looks going on. With her figure, she’d be great in a straighter skirt or slim-fit jeans.

  • nascarblue

sorry roadkill, i do like the jacket only it would go alot better with jeans, or maybe alot bettre donating it to someone.

  • Beth Grimes

It’s really not for someone 50+. Take the jacket and boots away and it might be alright. Looks like she started to try to look current but took two steps over the line

  • Tracey

I’m sorry, but this look is ridiculous. To many different styles going on here.

  • meme57

roadkill,i’m a fahion diva, and been into fashion early teenage years

  • Kim Marie

Great jacket, ok skirt, but those boots – must go ugh!

  • Debzella

I think that getting rid of the skirt and vest, and replacing them with skinny pants and a T or tank in a solid color would go a long way towards tying the look together. Mixing genres is a good thing but trying to merge two distinctive looks isn’t working here.

  • michellep34

    the boots got to go!

  • Deb M

I like it from the waist up.

  • Mamavalveeta03

I think this could be turned into an A+ look by changing out the skirt for some well-fitting trousers or jeans. It looks a little on the young side.

I agree with “lose the boots, add slacks”. And the purse/satchel/bookbag? I’m not totally into fashion, but she’s a slender lady, with a good pieces on top, but the bottom hemisphere needs changing. To each his own !!

  • nascarblue3

definatly a NO NO, sometimes when you dress in the dark and go outside in the light it can be a shocker, to me she missed the que, granted beauty is in the eye of the beholder, seriously, if she took the outfit apart and layed it on her bed, she could have taken her jacket and paired it with some jeans and her boots which in my opinion would have given her the alittle tough but casual look, putting the skirt on & her two mismatched shirts was a start, when she continued with the jacket and boots, all was lost, except the comments and stares, so in my opinion, roadkill.

  • sharon910

no no no maybe for teens.

  • ms_jpo

Wow. That looks bad. Maybe if she wore jeans instead of the skirt. She’s an attractive women with a good figure, but the outfit is all wrong. It doesn’t flatter her good figure.

  • Confidence Stimpson

the horizontally striped skirt, long jacket, bare legs and short boots make her legs look short four ways. A waist-length motorcycle jacket, either pants or a solid skirt in a color that’s close to the color of the tights that should be on her legs and the high boots, or high-heeled shoes, that should be on her feet would be more flattering.

  • mlh125

yikes! that outfit is totally wrong…the boots do not work…she looks so uncomfortable like her jacket is too small…just a sad fashion statement.

  • Donna

Looks loke she’s trying to “be young”….try again.

  • Diana Hess

If she left off the boots, it would have been ok, but they’re an overkill.

  • Janet likes to sew

Atrocious! She looks like Daffy Duck! What a waste of a lovely figure.

  • Joanne Van Genderen

Wow, can we cut her some slack? Maybe she just pulled on the boots to get to work safely or walk through something that more fragile shoes couldn’t handle. Women’s footware does a lot in holding back women from taking the leaps and bounds that men can do with any pair of their shoes. Shoe designers should do more to help form meet function when it comes to women’s footwear.

    • mlh125

why should we cut her some slack? FOF asked us to comment so that’s what we all are doing…

      • Joanne

Yes, FOF asked for our comments, but some of the comments remind me of the mean high school girls we all escaped from years ago.

  • Carol

ugh! the look is just ‘off’ – skirt should be shorter, boots are plain ugly

  • Trisha

Fishnet tights with this? Are you serious? Too many different things going on here. Jacket, tee and vest minus the skirt and boots is an OK look Or, skirt and tee minus the boots, vest and jacket. I just don’t like the skirt and boots combo. Actually, I don’t like the skirt at all. I’ll quit now. This is an attractive woman wearing a hodgepodge.

  • Mrsfitz

Oh dear, oh dear oh dear. Yet another case of a fit, lovely woman dressing like she’s a 20 year old. Perhaps any one piece of this ensemble could be worn with other age appropriate clothing (even the boots and jacket might fly with jeans). The mixture of the Catholic girl skirt and the biker chick jacket and boots is just creepy after a certain age….

  • Charlie

    Rotten roadkill!

  • Amy

While she is a very attractive woman and could undoubtedly rock numerous looks, this one is just too young for her and she comes off looking like she is trying much too hard.

  • OcalaRose

This is probably the ugliest outfit I’ve seen in a long time.
Each item is okay, but doesn’t work together. Sorry.

  • sweeteepie965

The tee with the necklace ok. But the boots should be under pants.

  • swhite

Wow and not in a good way! I think the skirt is just the wrong length I would of went shorter and the boots they have to go! I like the vest and jacket. I would of probably put it with a straighter skirt or some slim fitting pants with some cute flats! Come on this girl looks like she has a good figure why would she hide is with that hideous skirt! So fashion road kill!

  • BlueBear

She’s a bit too old for a getup like this one! Awful!

  • Dolores

I would not be caught in that outfit…. Did she get the shoes from her Dad???? (hope this was just a joke
    to our reaction)

  • FabGirl

Isn’t she one of the New York Housewives? Didn’t know she was over 50. Thought she was older than her boyfriend but not by that much. Ugly boots, skirt doesn’t work, everything else everybody else said! But normally I like how she dresses, even though some would say it’s too young for her age, she is always stylish. Maybe she was just having an off day. Everybody flubs once in a while. Cheers to her for staying young!

  • SuiobhanRK

Wow–this hurst my eyes! Fashion roadkill!

  • Betty Herbert

I’m not even sure a self-respecting biker would wear this atrocity.

  • Bettie

The only thing I like is the jacket. She can shelve the rest. IT is ahrd to decided if I dislike the boots more than the skirt. Both are terrible. Also, the delicate necklace with that jacket just looks off.

  • Janice

Jacket too “tough” the skirt too “soft”. The boots with bare legs just totally unflattering. For me most of the pieces just don’t work together. But if she loves it then she should wear it!

  • KathleenRileyDaniels (@RileyRants)

Roadkill. Pet peeve in there too — vast empty space between boots and skirt that does nothing to help the look.

  • tammy

  • Patricia

Looks good if you use your hand to cover up those boots!!!

  • patatwell

From the waist up she looks fine. Cute jacket. The skirt on a whole is a “no”…….the boots look like work boots and should only be worn with pants. She’s very cute and looks like she could wear just about anything and pull it off, anything except this.

  • kms

I think this outfit is just so bad. Putting these pieces together was simply wrong!

  • SuzieQue

The jacket with a t-shirt, fine and maybe jeans.
Those boots are the ugliest. What happened to the shoe designers? We want to enhance the foot, not damage it.

  • beastiesfirst

I like each piece – with something else. This FOF is trying waaaay too hard – and only succeeding at looking plain foolish. Roadkill, for sure.

  • Carol Myers

    Totally inapproriate ROADKILL!

  • Sandra Mooring

Obviously she is going for her “own” look and I like that!!!
I think this is very stylish for a Biker Chick! You go girl!!!

  • sara

Only the biker jacket looks good and it is overwhelmed by the rest of the hodge podge! Definitely needs tights not this fullish skirt and what century are the boots from?
Even the extras on Sons of Anarchy look more put together!

  • Soledad

Don’t want to be harsh, but this looks awkward and just plain stupid. The first thing I noticed were the boots. Yikes, give Olive Oyl back her shoes. If she had worn jeans or slacks she would’ve pulled the look off.

  • Evy

I live in Portland, OR – we are on the worst dressed city list – and even here that would be roadkill. Elements of the outfit are okay but the footwear and jacket just don’t go with the rest of the look – including her hairstyle.

  • Diane

Different shoes could have changed this look from terrible to terrific. Those boots are just ugly. She could have chosen black gladiator sandals or flats or even wedges. But those boots ruined a fun look!

  • Cindy Ash

I think the issue is the skirt. Replace the skirt with some cool updated jeans for weekends or casual days.
    Otherwise, let’s go shopping!!

    • marilyn

I agree. She needs jeans, not the skirt.

  • Michelle Oerman

It looks like Catholic School girl gone wild…. I don’t like the boots…. Maybe a cute pair of capezio character shoes!

  • cathy

No ,, don’t like , the boots are the pits.!

  • Pat

Fashion roadkill on a sweltering summer day in the deep, deep South. With lots of mosquitoes.

I like the leather jacket. But there’s nothing else in this ensemble that I find even remotely appealing, especially those boots. That being said, I would hate to think that I could only wear outfits that always pleased other people. I applaud her for pulling together pieces that she finds fashionable. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

  • Lavender Dreams

I don’t like it. The boots are awful and the skirt is the wrong length. She’s a pretty lady but only half of the outfit works!

  • Raye

About 1/4 of her outfit looks good – the rest is silly. Those boots make her look like she has duck feet.
