I love an ICE PICK…I make mine with Unsweet decaf tea, sweetener of choice (i use Splenda but am switching over to Stevia when I run out), Fresh squeezed lemon juice, sliced lemon, and vodka–over crushed ice. Yum!

I’ve heard that Slim-Rita’s are really good… but before I knew of them I made my own lower-cal version of margarita by using Crystal Light lemonade tequila. Sometimes even went a little wild and used the PINK lemonade ! Really good with crushed ice! Hope you’ll try it…

Slim Rita’s makes a wonderful all natural margarita mix and a lemon drop mix, with only 100 calories AFTER you add the recommended amount of tequila or vodka (as opposed to over 600 calories from a normal one) and they are wonderful! As an added bonus, each serving gives you 20% of your daily recommended vitamin C.

Our summertime, easy ingredient, always on hand, mostly low-cal pool drink is a homemade limeade with vodka. Sprite Zero, fresh squeezed lime juice and vodka (Abolut Citron optionally adds to citrus taste) Pour over crushed iced and lime slices. Carbonation just really refreshes poolside! Easy to make for one or many in a pitcher. Enjoy!

Here are a few options that you can enjoy all summer long; the first two are low cal twists on standard cocktails, while the last one is my own spin on a classic summer refresher:
    1. Gin and Diet Tonic
(use lots of lime to “cover” any diet aftertaste to the tonic)

    2. Cuba Libre
Light Rum, Diet Coke and Lime Squeeze

    3. A “Pinot” Palmer
Start with an Arnold Palmer (equal parts iced tea and lemonade–in this case you can control the calorie count by using your own brewed ice tea and freshly squeezed lemons with little or no added sugar, honey or an artificial calorie-free sweetener to taste) and then top with a crisp, clean pour of pinot grigio. I think this one would be fun made either in individual glasses or set out in a punch bowl or large, iced glass pitcher for a whole group. Drink up!

Cheryl – GREAT suggestions! I can’t wait to try the “Pinot” Palmer – my husband loves Arnold Palmers, so this recipe will be a big hit in our household. Thank you for these wonderful suggestions. 🙂

That’s always a challenge for me too! Last summer I really enjoyed a cocktail I made with Absolut Ruby Red Vodka on the rocks with a splash of Aquafina Raspberry flavored water. Very refreshing! The mixes tend to be where you add a lot of calories and/or sugar, so I look to the zero calorie waters as an alternative.

Yummy, that not only sounds delicious and refreshing, but also a very low calorie cocktail – wahooo! I looked up the calories: One oz of the vodka is 69 calories, and ZERO calories in the Aquafina raspberry flavored water. Excellent suggestion – thank YOU! I have a feeling I won’t wait until summertime to enjoy this new cocktail recipe 😉
