DrupalWomenQ-#7208

My grandchildren 9 & 11 and son 30 recently came to live with us after being without children for years. I’m exhausted and have shopping bags under my eyes. Any suggestions.

I have no beauty suggestions for you but if you make those lovely boys do their own stuff…the bags may go away on their own. I recently have revamped my own attitude to my 11 year old son. I think the catalyst was when I took him away for the weekend and upon return he asked me to unpack it and put the clothes in the laundry that was 3 feet away. How do I say DONE! finished. Now things are completely different. I guess I needed the wake up call.

Your’s is the best repy ever. I’ve got them moving & shaking now. The bags are gone and they are on top of their rooms, laundry, garbage detail and bathroom cleanup. Much Thanks

Wow! It took you 11 years to wake up? So glad you finally did because it would have only gotten so much worse for you. Boys get messier with each year and the hammer comes down or you go down! Your son needs to start doing things around the house NOW. Teach him to cook! (Your future daughter-in-law will love you!) I was amazed how many girls fell for my son because he could cook. Teach him to do his OWN laundry! He is old enough to do all these things. Remember…You are his Mother, not his maid! Hovering Moms teach their children nothing. btw: When you are cooking w/him, it’s amazing what he will talk about! You’ll find out all sorts of things he wouldn’t normally talk about. Start out w/scrambled eggs or something easy. When you’re cooking a bigger meal, call him to stir the pot or chop the onion, etc. Little by little, he will learn and he will enjoy it too. Make it fun! I love your sense of humor and I bet he will too!

Thanks. It’s been a little more than a month now. The kids and us have worked out a good system around the house. Things are looking up. Everything is going to be OK.

I have friends who are going thru the same thing. The main thing is stop treating everyone like “guests” and come to a “family” agreement on chores and schedules. The kiddos will fill more secure and helpful, and you will get some help!
