Has anyone had epidural steroid injections for neck/back pain? Did you have weight gain or any other negative side effects?

I have gain maybe 6 pounds but not for sure if that is the cause or not. The injections was for my back and had 3 rounds of injections and has not helped at all.

Yes- have tried it multiple times for 1 ruptured disks pl;us den=gerative disc disease and arthritis of the spine.
First time it worked for only a few hours and other times I got a migraine headache and it did nothing for my back.
Be sure to check that your incusrance WILL cover this.
Over $1300 for one shot and nothing! VERY disappointing….

I had an epidural injection for 2 bulging discs and stenosis in my neck. I have had a headache consistently for over 2 years now. My injection helped the mobility in my neck however I am still dealing with the headaches. I hope you get the relief you are looking for. Best of luck.

The 4th epidural steroid shot was under floriscopy (sp). It was magic! After one month of physical therapy, I went to a trainer who specialized in clients with back, leg, knee etc issues. I am still going but now Body Building! I weight lift 3 times a week and aerobics 4 times a week. The secret is to strengthen your core.
Ten years ago I was crawling to the bathroom and my orthopedist had scheduled surgery. Surgery never happened and I am stronger and in better shape than ever at the ripe age of 67!

Thanks so much for your reply! I know I need to get back to the strength training I used to do. I’m hoping the injections will work magic on me too!

I did not have any side effects. I had one epidural about five years ago and it was a miracle. I still get stiff and have a bad day or two a few times a year but if I keep my hamstrings stretched and take aspirin, I am good.

Thanks so much for the response! I go for mine next week, so we will see. Responses to my question have been all over the place so it seems like the only way to know how it will affect me is to try it! Hoping it’s my miracle too!

Yes I’ve had three injection in my lower back for a facet cyst. The first injection worked for awhile-about a month, the second one worked for about 2 weeks and the third one did not help at all. It was recommended that I go to physical therapy after the injections didn’t work. I chose to see a chiropractor who also did physical and he said usually a patient gets physical therapy while receiving injections. Since my insurance billed all treatment to chiropractic care and none to physical therapy (be careful of that) I am out of benefits til 2013. The way the insurance billed is my negative side effect, besides the fact that the injections did not work fo rme.

Hello, Yes I had one for my lower back about six weeks ago, and I go this Tuesday for my second one. The only side effect I had was a slight weakness in my leg right after the epidural, but that passed soon thereafter. My pain had become so bad I could hardly walk, but now I am up and although I am not back to my normal routine, I am at least moving around. I am truly hoping that the second one will give me the relief to get back to my almost everyday activities, which for me includes, weed pulling, digging, raking, handling our two ten month old Labradors(who are quiet physical). If I still need one, I will be able to get a third one after this one. They usually go at two week intervals, but due to my husbands traveling schedule, my second one had been delayed. I hope this helps, and good luck. Cindy Sue
