I am 51, live in los angeles and I am interested in finding out how to go about becoming a model. I am asked almost everyday if I am a model and on average most people think I am 35. I’d appreciate any feedback and will be happy to send photos. Thanks!

HI Grace! I hope you are having luck. I too am 52 and looking at ways to do some modeling. I am 5’5″ and was always told I was too short so I’m giving it another go now that perhaps that’s not quite so important, I’m not interested in runway modeling anyway. Grace and or Robin can I share info with you all? Robin, by the way, congrats on the movie, how exciting! Take care and I hope to hear from someone

I am also interested in modeling but live in Minneapolis. Can anyone make some suggestions for agencies that use senior female models. I am a 57 year old African-American woman and in good physical shape.

May I tag onto this conversation and ask a question about senior modeling. I am 67 years old but am frequently mistaken for 15 years younger. I am retired with a flexible schedule and have wanted to model since my teens, but am only 5’4″ and couldn’t do high fashion.

Now I just want to fulfill a lifelong dream. Do you know any agencies that handle seniors? I already have some head shots.

So sorry to intrude but I would be grateful if someone could steer me in the right direction. Thanks.

      Hi Leigh,
First question is what city do you live in? That determines a lot. There is commercial print modeling for those who are not tall enough for fashion so height makes no difference. Yes, there are agencies that handle seniors so let me know your city and we can take it from there. Best, Robin

Thank you so much for for your response and I didn’t mean to but into anyone else’s conversation, so forgive my manners.

I live in Long Beach, Ca which is about 20 miles from downtown Los Angeles. I am not so hung up about my height any more because the high end fashion modeling wouldn’t be an option any more. I had put the possibility of ever doing this out of my mind for years. But now I see so many seniors of all shapes and sizes in advertisements that I thought “Why not?” I don’t pretend to be a beach bunny at this point but I still can turn heads. Instead of glamorous which I always wanted to be I’m still more on the “cute” side.

      Hi Leigh,
You are close enough to LA. Sign up for actors access. This is a website for actors and models and have castings for print jobs of all ages. http://www.actorsaccess.com
You can post your photos and submit yourself for jobs you are appropriate for. It is a professional website and legit. It is a very good place to start.

    Hi Grace,
The first thing I tell anyone who is interested in becoming a model is that you need to have a flexible schedule. Unless you are available to go on auditions the calls will
stop coming. There are 2 kinds of modeling, real people and fashion/beauty. You can send me some photos and I can help you determine where you fit best if you like. Google model agencies in Los Angeles to get a list. Do your research to make sure they are legit. If you are flexible then ask a friend to take a few photos (not professional). You can even use an iphone to take the pictures with. You will need to take a headshot with a warm smile showing teeth and full body shot. They will let you know if they are interested. I hope this helps.
