{Giveaway} 7 FOFs will win the “greenest” kitchen containers on Earth!

FOF is giving away seven 10-piece sets of Kinetic Go Green Glasslock food storage containers. Enter to win by commenting below and answering: Have you ever been to a Tupperware party?

Thank you for entering. This contest is now closed.

The party may be over for Tuppwerare. Those ubiquitous plastic containers are taking the heat for their possible risks to human health and the environment. A new study has shown a link between a chemical in plasticware (BPA or bisphenol-A) and breast cancer. (Read more here.)

One company, Kinetic, is ahead of the curve with their line of environmentally-friendly, BPA-free glass storage containers, Go Green Glasslock. They were named a top contender in Good Housekeeping’s rigorous test of 28 different food storage products. Editors at Real Simple named them the “Best Container for Leftovers” and Cooks Illustrated highly recommended Kinetic Glasslock in a review. “A neat, tight, reliable seal, good capacity, and solid performance in every test made this container a standout,” they wrote. “If you are concerned about microwaving food in plastic storage containers, this is the one to choose.”

In addition to the health benefits, the environmental arguments for using glass food storage over plastic are compelling. Glasslock products are made from a natural organic compound that is 100% recyclable. Plastic is made from artificial substances and can take up to a millennium to break down in a landfill. So, don’t rush to trash all your plastic containers just yet, but when thinking about your health and the environment, glass may just be the plastic of the future.

Enter to win one of seven, 10-piece sets of Kinetic Go Green Glasslock food storage containers by commenting below and answering: Have you ever been to a Tupperware party?

(See all our past winners. See official rules. Seven winners are chosen at random from all those commenters who answer the question. Contest closes March 31, 2011.)

Tupperware Party you ask? Haven’t been to one in a while but when I first got married I was to numerous parties since my cousins and friends were getting married about the same time. In fact I still have square containers, dessert bowls with lids, cups, round containers and oval beverage containers with red lids. Great products that’s for sure.

Yes, zillions. I went to so many they convinced me to become a consultant. I got a flat tire on my way to the first party. When I arrived, late, greasy and dirty from changing the tire everyone felt so bad for me that they bought tons of stuff! I really liked it as a little side job and it was fun to get together with all different groups of women. It opened up my circle of friends, so nice to have the opportunity to socialize with so many age groups and different walks of life. And I got some of my favorite recipes from hostesses! As far as the products, they were fun then, very popular and trendy.

No, I have never been to a tupperware party, I have heard some fun stories about the parties and made a promise to my friend that I will attend the next one in my area. My friend gave me 2 tupperware bowls for my birthday and I absolutly LOVE them they are tough and do exactly what they promise. To win this for me would be awesome, I own very few containers that I can store food in, I love to cook and hate waste. If I am the lucky one, you have no idea how excited I will be, I am the type of woman that can be happy with the littlest of things because I was taught by my Mom, always appreciate what is given and always say thank you, so thank you Mom, I miss you, I want to say thank you for instilling one of many values you taught me, and if I win, I promise Mom I will make your favorite jam from my blueberry and strawberry plants.

Yes indeed, and have thoroughly enjoyed using Tupperware for all my life. Awesomely good product. It would be a real shame if they prove that connection with cancer, and I would caution users to not jump to conclusions too early and let the researchers prove it beyond doubt before they make us trash all our plasticware. Are the lids on the glass dishes of the same polyethylene? Next Saran wrap, Ziplocks, etc. Where does it stop? Melamine is wonderful, but look how many babies and animals it has poisoned in it’s powdered form. Do melamine dishes have the same effect? A mortician told me recently that bodies are lasting longer before they decompose just from plastics and preservatives in what we ingest. Another culprit there is Teflon and also Gore-Tex which absorbs through the skin from wearing it. I’m not willing to go back to wax paper, are you? Home parties I really enjoy, and have always found new and interesting products. (It’s wedding and baby showers I despise and refuse to go to.)

Yes, I have been to Tupperware parties (and all sorts of other home sales pitch parties over the years). I hate the parties — you only attend because a friend gently pressures you to help by attending, and you feel obligated to make a purchase, often buying something affordable but useless. I have used glass storage for years (only woman on my dad’s side of the family who has not had at least one mastectomy!), so I am VERY careful about what we eat and use in our home. I attended one Tupperware party back in the early 70’s when I was a very very young bride. My friend threw parties often in order to receive the hostess gifts for herself and had amassed quite a collection. I had little money to spend but indulged in a cake carrier. I have it to this day, but rarely used it to carry cake. It sits upside down in my highest cupboard shelf and contains my rarely used cookie cutter stash. I never felt comfortable using plastic containers to store food and to this day use old glass mixing bowls for most refrigerated leftovers.

Sure I went to Tupperware parties 🙂 They were a great way to get the girls together and to also stock up on storage containers….with a lifetime guarantee. BUT, now with the knowledge we have about heating plastics, Tupperware should only be used for dry and cold storage….NO MORE heating those leftovers and no packing in lunches to be heated. Two years ago we went to glass storage ware (Pyrex, Corning etc.) because of the plastic concerns. Now our lunchboxes have glass for re-heating and plastic containers for cold foods….the best of both products. And then a paper plate for covering those heating dishes to save from splatters and to eat off of. *We are trying to do our best with what we know!

Yes, once. I was about 14. Somehow I got invited to a Tupperware party by myself.

Well, apparently I was really taken in by the presenter because I got a little carried away and ordered a bunch of stuff. I was shocked when I saw that the total was over SIXTY DOLLARS! (that was a lot to me back then!)

When my dad (recently separated from my mom) picked me up at the end, I sheepishly explained all the nifty little items that they had demonstrated and how I had felt we needed those items (and sort of mumbled out the total to him at the end). He just smiled gently and said, “ok. If you think we need these things, then we will get them.”

Whoops just gave a long rambling comment about plastic. It really touched a nerve! Yes I have been to a tupperware party but never again. The plastic is quality, but not BPA-free I am sure. I assume it is still safe to freeze in plastic isn’t it? I am noticing more and more tupperware showing up in second-hand stores and at yard sales. Evidently more and more people are tossing theirs.

I used to have Tupperware parties a lot years ago. My mom is the one who got me interested and it was fun to have friends over to see all the new products. I always chose Tupperware reps that weren’t pushy about people buying a certain amount of merchandise, so my friends enjoyed coming. I am still using some Tupperware, but have started going more “green” by using glass too.

I have been using glass containers for storage for about a year now and I try to reduce use of plastic in the microwave. But I could sure use some more glass storage and heating containers. The article you posted really woke me up about getting rid of more plastic in my kitchen. We need a good design to cover up dinner plates that we warm up in the microwave. I am using a plastic cover made for the purpose and I am getting rid of it NOW! I guess I will go back to waxed paper or paper towels to be a little safer but a nice glass lid with vents would be nice. How about the old aluminum cookware that had domed glass lids? They might work.
