{Poll} Would you take back this cheater?

2011 September 1

Bill Clinton, Bill Cosby and Gene Simmons all cheated on their FOF wives. But, even after highly-publicized scandals, their wives took them back… would you?

Bill Cosby

“Through all the years of my marriage, my love for Camille, like my stomach, has steadily grown.” -Bill Cosby in his book Love and Marriage

“America’s favorite dad”–Yes. “America’s best husband?”–Not so much. In 1997, after a bizarre turn of events, Bill Cosby confessed he cheated on his wife of over forty years, Camille Hanks Cosby. Following the murder of Bill Cosby’s son Ennis, a woman named Autumn Jackson claimed Bill Cosby was her father and threatened to expose the comedian for cheating on his wife with her mother, Shawn Upshaw. Cosby admitted to a “rendezvous” with Autumn Jackson’s mother, but it was determined Autumn was not Cobsy’s daughter. Autumn later served jail time when she was accused of attempting to extort $40 million from Cosby. Sheesh. Give this guy a break? Or would you break up with this man who once referred to marriage as “a gift from the gods”?

Bill Clinton

“I did not have sex with that woman.” –Bill Clinton

Despite her husband’s multiple infidelities (Jennifer Flowers, Paula Jones, Monica…), and a national impeachment hearing, Hillary Rodham Clinton stood by her husband. “A vast right-wing conspiracy,” she initially called the charges. But, when the evidence of his affair with Lewinsky became undeniable, she issued a statement “reaffirming her commitment to their marriage” but privately was reported to be furious at him. According to Carl Bernstein’s biography, A Woman in Charge, “Hillary wrote…’I could hardly breathe. Gulping for air, I started crying and yelling at him, ‘What are you saying? Why did you lie to me?’ I was furious and getting more so by the second. He just stood there saying over and over again, ‘I’m sorry. I’m so sorry. I was trying to protect you and Chelsea.’”

In the end, Hillary took Bill back. “I really had to dig down deep and think hard about what was right for me, what was right for my family. I never doubted Bill’s love for me ever… The momentary feelings — you know, you are mad, you are really upset, you are disappointed — all of that goes through your mind,” Hillary told Tyra Banks, according to Hollywood.com. “I have found you really shouldn’t make decisions in the heat of those moments.” But, did Hillary make the right decision?

Gene Simmons

All relationships are open. Don’t believe there’s any difference between a monogamous and a polygamous relationship. Those are all just big words, like ‘gymnasium.’” – Gene Simmons

Kiss bassist and vocalist Gene Simmons (nickname: “The Demon”) and FOF former Playboy Playmate girlfriend Shannon Tweed have been living in sin for… 28 years.  Gene and Shannon, who once described themselves as “happily unmarried,” even have two grown children and their own reality show, Family Jewels. This season, the show has “documented their troubles and family therapy sessions stemming from Simmons’s claim that he has slept with thousands of women,” according to People.com. Since Gene Simmons proposed to Shannon Tweed on the season finale in July, Shannon says their relationship has unraveled.  “I wish someone had let me know it was an open relationship. If I’d have known, I’d have been doing the same thing, but he didn’t let me in on the secret,” says Shannon in an interview with a PostMedia News reporter. It is still unclear if the two will ever tie the knot, but Tweed says Simmons has stopped cheating since she threatened to leave but still hasn’t admitted he’s done anything wrong. “He’s still lumping himself into groups, like, ‘We men, we’re not made that way,’” Shannon said. “Don’t say ‘we.’ I don’t want to hear about other men. I don’t care what other men do.”

Women cheat more than men so these men were just beating them to the punch. I salute those men for doing so.

    Getcha “pimp” on.

It sort of feels too complicated and very wide for me. I am taking a look forward in your next post, I will attempt to get the grasp of it!

strange how the results were YES to Bill Crosby and NO to Clinton and Gene, to me once a cheater always a cheater, why let them back to humilate you again, if the man I am with wants to cheat, even if I truly loved him, when he goes to her I will have his bags ready to take with him, that happened once in my life and to lay next to someone that has cheated on me can not be trusted, trust is a very big part of a relationship, once it is gone thats it, to let him back into your life that is not saying to much about your self esteem, like the old saying, if it looks like a snake and crawls like a snake, then it is a snake…granted it hurts bad, I refuse to be someones doormat, once you cheat, the door is closed for good. Thats my opinion…

  • Cynthia says:

Unbelievable. No, Shannon should not take Gene back. See, the key is that while he was having affairs, he HID them from her – so he knew it was a dealbreaker for her and that he was wrong. He lied and cheated and he’s not sorry and doesn’t care that he destroyed her faith in them. Leave him fast and forever.

  • brunette50 says:

Shannon Tweed and Gene Simmons belong together. He may not have proposed to her all those years, but he did take good care of her and always came home to her. She chose a rock star not a regular guy, so she probably knew there would be some problems associated with that lifestyle. I say she should forget all the past problems and marry him!

  • bearbara says:

The other two you are basically excusing something that happened once or twice…but Shannon KNEW from the get go that Gene was a DOG! And she stayed and stayed and stayed….so when she blew a fuse and left it totally stunned me! Why NOW??? She should take Gene back because he needs to be in a real relationship for life and stop all the “stuff” and he truly needs Shannon and he and she are a great pair. He just needs to get over the insecurity of not having everyone fawn on him…she needs to be patient and know that thru ALL the crap; he came back to her. And that is the telling truth of his feelings. Not the flings.

Wow the question that everyone has pondered at cocktails parties, would you forgive if…..? I can say that that question is easily answered when it is hypothecial. I was with my husband since I was 18 y.o. at 50 he left me for someone he was having a year long affair with. I was devastated, we tried (well mostly he kept lying) for a few years and eventually he ended up with her. In hindsight, I should have known that “once a cheater always a cheater”. I think men/women who cheat will usually fall back on that course when the going gets tough. Although, being a FOF I also know that nothing is written in stone and for those working it out, I say good luck and God Bless.

I think Barb is correct. One slip does not constitute flaming infidelity. Difficult to overcome? Yes, but if there is love and the ability to reinstitute the lost trust it would be worth the effort. I knew of such an example and always wondered how the woman took her husband back, but they managed to set it aside and had another thirty years of good marriage. HOWEVER—the creeps who brag and flaunt their escapades and then try to make it look like acceptable behavior aren’t even worth the question.

  • morticia7@juno.com says:

Of course I would take every one of those scurrilous, filthy, lying cheaters…Why, you ask? Because it’s all about Money…I would take them back, get a really good shark of a lawyer, work out compensation, then divorce the creeps and let someone else take care of them in their doddering dottage!!! Certainly not because I love them…they destroyed that long long ago!

  • Barb says:

I agree with BlueBear. Also when your husband cheats on you once, like Mr. Cosby it would take a lot prayer, time and healing for the marriage to be restored, but when he continually makes a mockery of the union by multiple affairs like the other two, you come to a point where you have to say – enough!

  • LeslieJean says:

Hello…I’d free myself of that baggage and start dating, young, successful men and forget the word “marriage”. If I wasn’t good enough ‘until death-do-us-part’ (especially after I’ve washed their dirty undies all those years) then color me outta there. Plus, they’re all shriveled, homely, old men, who probably need Via**a in order to have a trist!!! My two cents.

  • BlueBear says:

The problem with Gene Simmons and Shannon Tweed is their not being married. Sorry gals but it’s a lot more difficult to forgive and forget when you aren’t married to the guy and either one of you can walk whenever you please. There really is such a thing as “vested interest” and it just isn’t there without being married. It may be a hopelessly old-fashioned view but it is true nonetheless!
