Madonna’s halftime show….was it a win?

“Madonna is rockin . . . well received here in the stadium,” –WFAN’s Boomer Esiason, via Twitter.

“The only thing Madonna proved during the Super Bowl 46 show is her irrelevance.” –JP Starkey, Dallas’s SB Nation.

The reviews were decidedly mixed on this year’s Super Bowl Halftime show, headlined by FOF Madonna. A bevy of FUF stars popped on and off the stage–including LMFAO, M.I.A, Nicki Minaj, and Cee-Lo– but Madonna was the one dancing (in heeled, thigh-high boots no less) singing, jumping, and pumping up the crowd from start to finish.

Full disclosure: We thought she was fab. Who are these haters?! She sounded great. (Was she lip syncing? Who cares?) She kept the spectacles coming (Roman gladiators! Tight-rope bouncers! 50 cheerleaders! A full choir!) Her body was toned and sexy, but she didn’t feel the need to flash her nipples to make it memorable (are you listening, Janet?). Best of all, she was beaming, and appeared to be having the time of her life.

Madonna is never too old to be watched and can still move pretty smooth.

Madonna was FANTABULOUS!!! Anyone that can make those moves at 53 gets a standing ovation from me!!!

BORING…….more of the same……lip sync again. She should hang up the spurs and go out to pasture.

Give me a break-Madonna never could sing. Auto tune & lip-syncing were always her best friend.

I’m a Madonna fan and was anxious to see her show. However, I was disappointed. She appeared unable to move very well…seemed almost clumsy. Not what I expected.

I believe she was performing with a pulled hamstring. That seemed to be where her limitations were coming from.

I’m 64 and loved Madonna at Super Bowl! She is an American original who has practiced her craft for over 25 years. She is still able to perform her act despite the toll it has taken on her body (perhaps the reason for her fumble on the bleacher).
Who cares if she lip-synched? Most performers in large forums do the same, especially for Super Bowl. Why put a different criteria on her? Her songs are the songs of my youth and they still energize me.

Madonna is all about the experience, and I think she nailed it. It certainly was entertaining, and a spectacle for the eyes too!
We should all be in as a good a shape as she is.
    V vibrant
    O over the top
    G going the distance
    U unique

The woman who was known for her dancing either couldn’t or wouldn’t bust a move and, at one point, almost fell! The entire show was too busy and had too many participants. Wasn’t there anyone younger that they could have gotten to perform? I’m growing weary of seeing these old stars doing the Super Bowl halftime. It’s painful to watch them. I’m old myself and I’d much rather hear the younger set and be rejuvenated by their energy!

Same age as the Material Girl; dance 4-5 times a week; the girl has a banging body and she rocked it! Let’s see all those 20 yr old performers in 30 and we can talk then! 50Licious Baby!

She doesn’t excite me. Give her credit for taking amazing care of herself! She looks wonderful!

I was disappointed in her performance. Granted that for her age she looks wonderful, BUT, the performance was less than great. It doesn’t take much to have a designer dress you up and for some wonderful dancers to back you up. What does matter is that you should be performing live, and not lip sincing. Also, there didn’t seem to be anything new or exciting to her show. It was just typical Madonna – just a bit older.

Well your poll numbers currently indicate a 43% fail which I would presume is coming from women over 50. I had dismissed ageist comments on other sites as being written by young women in their teens and 20’s but your poll numbers seem to indicate a large % of older women who thought Madonna was a fail. Jealousy?

Personally I was proud of her. I will be 61 soon and am always proud of any woman who is trying to be her best at what she does and at any age. Can anyone spell SUPPORT? It has been hard enough to survive in a good ole boy environment we don’t need our fellow women turning on each other.

You go, VJ! I couldn’t do most of those moves when I was 25… let alone now! Not only is it difficult to dance & sing @ the same time, how ’bout doing gymnastics?!?!?! Her voice is strong (lip-sync’d or not!), she’s continued to have hit records, she’s dedicated to giving back in many ways – some people just have to be negative! Wonder if all those who were so critic have the “Face recognition” all over the globe, & Fans as well…. think not!

I thought she was fabulous! And I’m not really a Madonna fan. And really, who cares if she was singing live? I wonder how many of those nay sayers have ever tried to sing and dance at the same time? It was entertaining from start to finish.

It was one of the best half time shows I have seen. Probably second to the Prince show. Who can forget the Purple Rain segment!

Ha! Totally agree. Thanks for the comment, VJ. I couldn’t believe there were people hating on it. Did we all watch the same show??
