{What do you think of this look?}

With her black leather motorcycle jacket and ankle boots, the only thing this FOF is missing is her Harley. But, was she asleep at the wheel when she got dressed? We asked our style experts to decide. Read their responses, then tell us what you think: Is this FOF biker chic or fashion roadkill?

—————————————————————————————————

Sherrie Mathieson: “Reminds me of Mammy Yokum in a ‘Li’l Abner’ cartoon. Undoubtedly, her wish was to be hip and cool but instead, she succeeds at looking silly. [I bet] she’s comfortable, but she would have been way ahead had she nixed the boots that swallow her bare legs and instead, worn black ballerina flats.”

Sherrie Mathieson is a leading style expert and Random House author of Steal this Style and Forever Cool.

.

Lovey Dash: “Let me just say I would not wear this look for all the tea in China. However it works, not for me, but for her…The jacket is great and I love the tee with the necklace. I also love the boots. If the skirt were shorter, then she could have been okay without tights. But since it’s not, she should have worn Wolford opaque or micro fishnet tights. All in all not fashion roadkill, not biker chic but, she pulled it off.”

Lovey Dash is a Beverly Hills-based stylist. She was formerly in VIP sales for Louis Vuitton on Rodeo Drive.

.

Deborah Boland and Jojami Tyler  (The Glam Gals): “BOOT this look out the door! This gal isn’t sure if she is a private school student or a motorcycle gang member and those boots look like galoshes you’d throw on to wade in your bathroom if your toilet overflowed.”

“Glam Gals” Jojami Tyler and Deborah Boland co-write the brilliant fashion blog, Fabulous After 40.

.

Glenyse Thompson: “[She’s] fashion roadkill. The whole outfit is wrong. I understand the need for protection if you ride a motorcycle or scooter, but you can still dress fashionably and protect yourself. 1981 is calling and it wants that skirt back. A pair of fitted pants would have easily made this outfit a ‘do.'”

Glenyse Thompson is a personal home and wardrobe stylist and the creator of Styleosophy.

.

Susan Grant: “This ensemble works well and is age appropriate with the exception of the footwear. The height of the boot and its tight fit over the ankle looks awkward. I would add black tights and swap the ankle boots for a knee-high, flat boot or a low-heeled pump for a more polished look.”

Susan Grant is merchandise manager for Muse, a full-service jewelry showroom.

Either lose the skirt and replace it with a pair of well-fitting dark denim jeans, or lose the jacket and boots and replace them with something in a burgundy or perhaps navy color. Two completely different looks going on. With her figure, she’d be great in a straighter skirt or slim-fit jeans.

sorry roadkill, i do like the jacket only it would go alot better with jeans, or maybe alot bettre donating it to someone.

It’s really not for someone 50+. Take the jacket and boots away and it might be alright. Looks like she started to try to look current but took two steps over the line

  7. Debzella says:

I think that getting rid of the skirt and vest, and replacing them with skinny pants and a T or tank in a solid color would go a long way towards tying the look together. Mixing genres is a good thing but trying to merge two distinctive looks isn’t working here.

I think this could be turned into an A+ look by changing out the skirt for some well-fitting trousers or jeans. It looks a little on the young side.

I agree with “lose the boots, add slacks”. And the purse/satchel/bookbag? I’m not totally into fashion, but she’s a slender lady, with a good pieces on top, but the bottom hemisphere needs changing. To each his own !!

definatly a NO NO, sometimes when you dress in the dark and go outside in the light it can be a shocker, to me she missed the que, granted beauty is in the eye of the beholder, seriously, if she took the outfit apart and layed it on her bed, she could have taken her jacket and paired it with some jeans and her boots which in my opinion would have given her the alittle tough but casual look, putting the skirt on & her two mismatched shirts was a start, when she continued with the jacket and boots, all was lost, except the comments and stares, so in my opinion, roadkill.

Wow. That looks bad. Maybe if she wore jeans instead of the skirt. She’s an attractive women with a good figure, but the outfit is all wrong. It doesn’t flatter her good figure.

  15. Confidence Stimpson says:

the horizontally striped skirt, long jacket, bare legs and short boots make her legs look short four ways. A waist-length motorcycle jacket, either pants or a solid skirt in a color that’s close to the color of the tights that should be on her legs and the high boots, or high-heeled shoes, that should be on her feet would be more flattering.

  20. Joanne Van Genderen says:

Wow, can we cut her some slack? Maybe she just pulled on the boots to get to work safely or walk through something that more fragile shoes couldn’t handle. Women’s footware does a lot in holding back women from taking the leaps and bounds that men can do with any pair of their shoes. Shoe designers should do more to help form meet function when it comes to women’s footwear.

Fishnet tights with this? Are you serious? Too many different things going on here. Jacket, tee and vest minus the skirt and boots is an OK look Or, skirt and tee minus the boots, vest and jacket. I just don’t like the skirt and boots combo. Actually, I don’t like the skirt at all. I’ll quit now. This is an attractive woman wearing a hodgepodge.

Oh dear, oh dear oh dear. Yet another case of a fit, lovely woman dressing like she’s a 20 year old. Perhaps any one piece of this ensemble could be worn with other age appropriate clothing (even the boots and jacket might fly with jeans). The mixture of the Catholic girl skirt and the biker chick jacket and boots is just creepy after a certain age….

Isn’t she one of the New York Housewives? Didn’t know she was over 50. Thought she was older than her boyfriend but not by that much. Ugly boots, skirt doesn’t work, everything else everybody else said! But normally I like how she dresses, even though some would say it’s too young for her age, she is always stylish. Maybe she was just having an off day. Everybody flubs once in a while. Cheers to her for staying young!

I like the leather jacket. But there’s nothing else in this ensemble that I find even remotely appealing, especially those boots. That being said, I would hate to think that I could only wear outfits that always pleased other people. I applaud her for pulling together pieces that she finds fashionable.
