{What do you think of this look?}

We spotted this FOF outside the Museum of Modern Art in NYC. “I’m visiting my daughter so it took me 5 minutes [to get dressed],” she told us. “All I have is one suitcase of clothes.” Given those circumstances, we’d say this teacher from Finland, passes our test. Read what our FOF style experts think, then tell us: What do you think of her look?

—————————————————————————————————

Sherrie Mathieson: “Sorry, but the minute I saw the hairstyle, I balked–very punk 80s and unflattering. It prejudices me against conceding any points for a good overall look. However, I like her Longchamp bag, but it’s sporty, horse-y motif doesn’t jive with the feminine, flower print of her pant. I do like the predominance of navy–so much softer than black–in her outfit. Thankfully, she knew to put the splashy print on her lower half (with high wedges to give her longer legs) and the solid on her well-endowed, upper torso.”

Sherrie Mathieson is a leading style expert and Random House author of Steal this Style and Forever Cool.

.

Susan Sommers: “This is a lot of look for anyone, but, particularly if you have show-stopper hair and a full bosom. I simply don’t know where to look first! She has a great face and interesting hair color and cut, so she should make those her focal point. To do so, she would need a smaller floral and different proportions: a looser top and narrower bottom worn with a shorter, less chunky necklace and bright bag.”

Susan Sommers is a personal branding and wardrobing specialist, founder of Dresszing and author of two fashion bibles, French Chic and Italian Chic.

.

Sandra Soich: “I give her credit, first of all, for her hair color. It’s definitely a step above average although, not quite sure if it’s age appropriate. The ready to wear pieces were fine, but I think the top could have been a bit looser and I would have not used the necklace which draws attention to her bustline. Shoes and bag were okay. Overall I give it a “C”.

Sandra Soich is wardrobe stylist to the stars and founder of YourFashionTherapist.com.

.
Susan Hersh: “Floral prints have been a trend this spring, but this outfit appears outdated. A floral maxi dress would have been better. Also, a padded bra would camouflage an unnecessary distraction from what could be a stellar outfit.”

Susan Hersh is a Ford model and the host and executive producer of Meet The Experts.

.

Terry Gibralter: “Flower power! There’s much about this FOF’s look that I like. She looks cool and comfortable and navy feels so modern. The wide-legged, floral pants are great. I like the top she paired it with, although I wish it were a tad less revealing or worn with better underpinnings. The bag is cool and I like the sandals and necklace she’s chosen as well. I really like her funky haircut, although the color is a little much. Come fall she can throw on a cute jacket and add booties and the flower power continues!

Terry Gibralter is the Sr. Vice President and Creative Director at Grey advertising as well as a fashion stylist and the creator of these clever work accessories.

.

Deborah Boland and Jojami Tyler (The Glam Gals): “Wouldn’t place our bets on this one. Looks like there’s been too much horseplay with the hair dye! She may think she is off the races with that tailored purse, but her flowered pants make her look more like she’s off to a romantic luau. Also, dressing is in the details. Notice the lace bra? A better choice would have been to smooth things out and wear a minimizer without all the frou frou.”

“Glam Gals” Jojami Tyler and Deborah Boland co-write the brilliant fashion blog, Fabulous After 40.

.

Shelley Zurek: This outfit is a whole lot of almost for me. This women has a beautiful body–very womanly. But, that very thin top reveals too much. Her hair is almost cute, but the variation in colors comes off a bit skunkish to me. If it were all one shade it would be just as edgy and not overdone. The bag is the wrong shape.  A half-circle bag would be much cuter. The pants are almost cute–it would be better as a long skirt.  She should add a long-sleeved button down that grazes her hips and covers her her arms over her tank.

Shelley Zurek is the clever FOF behind the blog, Still Blonde after all these YEARS.

Yeah. She should wear a padded bra. Susan, you should blog for the Department of Redundancy Department. Please. The last thing someone who’s that well-endowed wants to wear is a padded bra.

Please give her a break! 99 % of all tourists in NY are wearing shirts and tee, how do you call it? no style? It doesn’t look like she was going out searching for some “fab pros” reviews…. I think she is doing great! the look is fresh and modern. And the hair is just stylish – its very unusual and its actually a good cut. Just remember, we are not talking about some super start in magazine, she is just one of us. How many of you were ever spotted on a street by some “pro” asking to take a picture of you? especially when you are on vacation? probably never… And just looking at pictures of these “experts” – what do you expect to hear from some of them? They are already from a lost era and if you see a woman looking better than you do doesn’t mean you have to criticize her. Wish we all have at least half of her creativity and confidence!

She’s a person I’d like to meet in contrast to all the photoshopped promo pictures of the so-called jury.

  12. Soledad says:

I like the colors of her outfit but I thought the pants were a long skirt. The top definitely needs to be looser, the pants a little shorter and the necklace also shorter. It looks like she was trying to match her hair to her clothes or vice versa. Hair needs to be one shade.

We are giving this girl some slack for being on vacation. But, the skirt/slacks are too long. We’d like to see those wedgies. She does accentuate her headlights with this top. The color is good, but it looks strained and uncomfortable. I confess, I don’t care for spandex in everything, maybe a tad looser. I don’t mind her nipples. That’s what’s on those things! Sorry about the bag. If she is going to use a plastic, bag she would have been better off with a straw tote. I like the hair.

I think the pants should be a little less wild with the print. smaller floral I think. the shirt could be a little looser or maybe a good support underneath the shirt. also, purse is too clunky and she should forgo the necklace. too busy and brings too much attention to her bust. Hair color could be toned down as she is middle aged.

  19. Mick says:

I like her outfit – it’s not NYC sophisticated, but it’s fun. She could tone down the ‘exposure’ with silicone concealers or a 3/4 sleeve shirt, but if she’s comfortable for the weather, it works.

She should save the fierce “out there” haircolors for one night stands. Everyday funky works for 20 somethings, but comes off “crazy old lady” on FOF’s. Paint fingernails orange, which looks fun fashionable instead of freakish.

A patent leather orange clutch with some orange bracelets on both wrists would have looked cute and drawn attention away from “flying squirrel arm” worries…and both pack small, work big when traveling.

  27. Carla says:

The whole outfit makes her look like she’s going to fall at any minute. The skirt is clinging between her legs and getting caught on those platforms!! Good definition between her waist and breasts, and she hasn’t gone for the “mono-boob” Spanx/sports bra look which is always a plus. Hey, if you have a large chest, dressing them isn’t easy! The hair is trendy and may appear lighter than it actually is but I wouldn’t wear it that way. Basically, I’d shorten the skirt, put on reasonable shoes, and darken the highlights.

  28. Grace Hodgin says:

I do agree with Shelley overall with the hair and outfit. I think an outfit should be like a painting. Your eye should focus first on one thing and then the rest of the objects in the painting should escort your eye all around to appreciate the whole scene. Call me a prude but the first thing I saw was “that very thin top reveals too much” and nothing else was strong enough to bring my eyes around the rest of the ‘painting’ to appreciate the scene that was being painted.

I agree in large part with most of the critiques above, but Shelley Zurek really expressed how I felt. I keep looking at the picture and thinking, so close…just about all her choices are a “so close” choice. I agree with the thin top issue. I am also well-endowed, and I would never wear such a top, because it’s not flattering and it doesn’t enhance her figure. It throws her very large breasts into my face and flaunts them unnecessarily. Trust me, everyone will know she still has large breasts, even if her top is a tad more conservative (not prudish, not like a square, but not as “out there.”). It just doesn’t give a polished appearance. As for her hair…Shelley is also dead on. It’s a sassy and edgy cut — the color is too much. And, well, I thought the bottom was a skirt. When I read it was pants, I had to look back at the picture and was a little disappointed.

Once I got past the hair, bravo for being so brave! I fell over the ta-tas. Needs a better bra. The pants are great, she can pull them off. I would have worn a different necklace and longer earrings. Nail polish too dark. The bag is just okay. But I’m not paying her bills so she can wear what she wants.

  34. Stacie says:

I think aside from a smoother padded bra, there is nothing wrong with her top. A large chest does not mean that she should wear a billowing top to hide it. Her neckline is at a very respectable height. Overall, I like this look, but I do agree that a different shape or style of bag (and without the horse/jockey) would have matched it better.

I agree with Shelley, I think this outfit almost makes it, but falls short in some key areas that just need a little help. I feel as though this individual is a little confused about her age- She is gorgeous, don’t get me wrong, but some modesty is much more attractive at any age, and the top is just too thin. I thought the ‘pants’ were a skirt, which reads much better as such, and the bag seems to throw the look off, in shape.

The problem with wearing something full on one half is that one needs to wear something fitted on the other. Her body type would lend itself better to a fuller top and more fitted pants. That being said, I want to cut her some slack (no pun intended). The colors are flattering and on trend. Her accessories are well chosen and I like her haircut (I am unsure of the color w/o seeing it in person). She looks happy and comfortable in her own skin which makes her fabulous!

Personally, she looks okay to me- I LIKE her hair, she looks good in it. I have yet to find any hairstyle too, that I actually look good in ! LOL

OMG! The first place everyone will see is her well-endowed bosom! I think she needs a much looser top or a different top altogether to accent her bosom rather than make it the focal point. Men espeically won’t notice what type of outfit or hair color she has for the obvious reason. I love the pants, shoes & jewelry but I think her hair is for a younger woman.

Can’t believe how old-fashioned and stuffy these so-called reviewers are. Ridiculous. I think she looks great. She looks edgy, energetic and modern. Sounds like sourgrapes from people who are jealous.

My only criticism – as Linda mentioned – is the god-awful handbag with the ridiculous horsey on it. Doesn’t fit the attitude, style and edge of the rest of the outfit. Needs to go. … Other than the bag, I think she looks great!
