{What do you think of this look?}

Batwing blouses hide a multitude of FOFlaws. But, by wearing one you also run the risk of looking like Casper the FOFriendly ghost. We spotted this bat-winged lady from Switzerland, in SoHo, New York City, where she was spending her 50th birthday. Tell us: is her look–haunt couture or FOFrightful? Plus, see what our style experts think!

Glenyse Thompson: Haunt couture! Excellent mix of textures and metallics–muted, silver satin pants, gold sandals and knit top with silver metallic strands. She brings all these different elements together for a chic and comfortable look. Love it!

Glenyse Thompson is a personal home and wardrobe stylist and the creator of Styleosophy.

.

Susan Hersh: I’m not afraid of this woman’s sleek, sophisticated and modern take on a classic batwing blouse. The metallic slim trouser is the right proportion along with the small delicate clutch. This one’s not scaring anyone away.

Susan Hersh is a Ford model and the host and executive producer of Meet The Experts.

.

Deborah Boland and Jojami Tyler (The Glam Gals): This gal looks frighteningly fabulous in her chic, bat-wing top and tombstone-grey, satin, skinny pants. Love how she mixed metals by adding gold sandals. She just needs to tie it all together with a gold and silver statement necklace or colorful large earrings. Also, this look needs a tiny tweak. We suggest wearing a seamless, nude bra that’s as invisible as a ghost. Happy Halloween!

“Glam Gals” Deborah Boland and Jojami Tyler co-write the brilliant fashion blog, Fabulous After 40.

Shelley Zurek: This FOF is so beautiful, she would look good wearing a potato sack…the only trouble is, I think the top is a potato sack! It’s poorly lined, oddly constructed, and just plain hideous. The pants are laughable except they do highlight this FOF’s long legs. What I see of the shoes, I don’t like. There is hardly anything about this outfit that is redeemable. An entirely new outfit would be a treat because this look is a tragic trick.

Shelley Zurek is the clever FOF behind the blog, Still Blonde after all these YEARS.

Terry Gibralter: “I think this outfit is no trick, all treat! I love a dolman sleeve top when paired properly with a matchstick bottom like this–very flattering! I also like the shimmery beige sweater. She’s even matched her cool blue-gray pedicure to her outfit. A few nitpicks: I would prefer grey or silver instead of the gold sandal to keep with the cool color scheme. Bolder accessories would work well with this outfit. Maybe a bigger, blinger earring, bracelet or even the right necklace to add some interest to the rather plain top.”

Terry Gibralter is the Sr. Vice President and Creative Director at Grey advertising as well as a fashion stylist and the creator of these clever work accessories.

Sandra Soich: “Love! I try and stay away from the word ‘love’ when it comes to fashion but she really looks pulled together.

Her casual chic look is perfect from head to toe. Her hair and makeup look great as well as her pedicured toes. I like the way she uses the shapes of the clothing (full on top and skinny bottoms). Her accessories are perfect. “Less is more” works for this attractive woman.”

Personally, I would pair that top with slim jeans. Also a head wrap, drop earrings, bracelets and sandals. But that’s me. To each his own.

I love this! Some big shiny gold statement earrings would have completed this look to perfection and tied in the shoes. She looks stunning!!

I can tell by the smile on her face that she loves the way she looks. So do I. In fact, I would love to own every piece that she is using. She is small, well proportioned, quite lovely and pulled this off magnificently. On a scale of 1-10………….I give her a big 10. You go, girl!

This woman would have looked fabulous in anything…the real test is when you put this outfit on someone that’s not a size 0…could you even imagine what this would look like on some that is say a size 20…you would be covering your children’s eyes…the test of a truly great outfit is that it looks good in any size.

ELove the look. Perfect outfit for an evening outing.Although I agree with Terry Gibralter, the shoes should be silver or black.

She looks very chic. I had one of those batwing tops but the fabric kept catching on my undergarments. Definitely you need a slim bottom for the look.

Understated bling. Nice statement for the majority of us. However, I’m guessing that most trim women don’t hide themselves in so much fabric.

I like the look. Give her a break on the shoes, she’s visiting from Switzerland and most likely did not bring shoes to match every outfit.

My first impression was that she looks absolutely stunning. It’s possible to nit pick and suggest different ways of wearing this, but the overall look is great just as it is. She is obviously posing to show off the sleeves, but if you look at the way the blouse hangs on her other side I don’t think it looks bulky at all. I think that other women could wear it even if they aren’t as slim as she is – so long as they don’t walk with both arms extended!

She looks fabulous! The key to wearing this look is proportion. A voluminous top works best with skinny pants or a pencil skirt. I agree that a statement necklace would finish the look, but overall this outfit is superb.

Frankly I think a top that voluminous only looks good on a slim woman – like the woman in the picture. I’m bigger in the bust and I’d look like bigger than is reality. The slim pants are great, but SATIN? Really? I’d have those ruined before I left the house. But this woman looks great!

I think she looks lovely! By the way, I think the pants are beautiful and just fine. I have a very similar pair of Jil Sander pants and they come off just like that. The only thing I might add is a necklace of some sort, but that is nit picking. She looks so elegant.

For this woman it looks good except the white washes her skin color out. If I wore it, it would be a different color. I would keep with the silver theme and put silver sandals instead of gold.
Perhaps she should wear a necklace since the top is so plain. something in silver. Maybe a pair of silver hoop earrings. I wouldnt look good in this top because I have a pear shape and I love showing off my waist. she is very thin; especially those skinny leg silver pants.

She looks FOF frightful and dynamte. I like the look and now that she is 50 she can join Fab over 50. lets invite her. That top would be god to hide my flaws. I really like it. But I would rather have another color thne white because thjat can look ghostly.

She stole my look!! lol! I have a pale gold top just like this that I wore to a family get together last year w/skinny pants and pale gold flats. The look was relaxed and chic. I did have a statement necklace and earrings bought specifically for the outfit, though. So…of course I love this look!!! I probably would have gone with red shoes, jewlery & nails, or just maybe change out her shoe to a silver & black metallic sandal or shoe, (a pointy pump would have been totally on trend), but she looks totally beautiful and fabulous just as she is.

She looks perfect. I read a lot of street fashion blogs and it seems like some of the best looks are on European women. Unlike so many American women, they don’t try to look younger than they are. They make the Most of their age. So admirable.

I absolutely love it. What a gorgeous look. I would wear it in a minute and feel fabulous doing it. When I saw the teaser of this in my inbox I was ready for some ridiculous getup and was so happy to find just the opposite. What I really want to know is where she bought the pants – they simply MAKE the outfit. Beautiful sense of style, mixing the textures and remembering not to have a big handbag slung over her shoulder which would ruin the fluidity of the top. My only recommendations would be to go with a cool tone shoe maybe in the pewter color family instead of gold, and a different bra/shaper with smoother lines that would not show under the top. I have never voiced wholehearted disagreement with one of your reviewers before, but in this case Shelley Zureck was so far off base again that it leaves me questioning her credibility as a relevant reviewer at all. This look was pure chic, timeless, and elegantly effortless.

I like the style, but for me, I would love to see a bit of colour of creativity. I have done hand painted clothing or fabric for a while, although it may not be fashionable there is nothing like having fun with it but creating things.
Im tired of just black and white, colour I think makes things a lot brighter, with black or white to contrast depending on the person.

I really like this look on her, with the exception of the color of the top. I am guessing that it is the photograph that makes it look like a white sheet, the experts say it has silver strands in it, but lost here. She has the body for this, but we busty gals need to stay away from these tops as they hang down from our chests like tents!

This would look gorgeous for any age! I agree with Susan, Glenyse, Jojami and Deborah, and Sandra; and am horrified by Shelley’s snarky comments. I like the mixed metals as a bit unexpected and the simplicity of the outfit with a minimum of jewelry. I’m taking notes on this fab way to cover aging arms, especially on a warm day.

First off this lady is lovely and if anyone could pull this outfit off it’s her (but why would you want to hide that undoubtedly hard worked for figure). However, I feel that the outfit looks cheap…the top looks like a sheet from Walmart and the pants are so shiny that at first I thought they were two tone….yuck. I’m sorry but I just don’t like mixed metals….perhaps if she had a necklace or braclet that tied them together…the bottom line is when you’re built like that stick to the always fashionable shift dress and add trendy accessories.

This looks great on her. It would not on me, because I have an “hourglass” figure and I look best in things that accentuate the waist. This type of top does hide figure flaws for some, but for me it hides my best feature and makes me look fatter than I really am. But this woman is thin enough to pull it off. Plus, she balances it out with form-fitting pants, which is rule number one when you wear this type of top. I think she looks fabulous. I would add a “statement” necklace, but that is only a quibble. This is very European and a great example of “ageless” dressing.
