{What do you think of this look?} FOF Golden Globes fashion

Awards season is upon us–and FOFs are showing up in full force. This year’s Golden Globes were no exception with appearances from Helen, Julianne, Angelica and other FOFavorites.

What do you think: Were their fashion choices fab, or should we wish them better luck at the Oscars?

Helen Mirren

We’d expect nothing less than fierce, ageless style from the always gorgeous Helen Mirren. She upstaged starlets half her age in this stunning black gown accented with intricate gold beading by Badgley Mischka.  The black and gold pairing emulated old Hollywood glamour. We thought she looked FOFlawless, but what do you think?

Sally Field

Sally Field may have played Lincoln’s dowdy wife, Mary Todd Lincoln, in the 2012 historical film about the president. But, she was looking anything but dowdy last night in her navy blue Alberta Ferretti gown with its plunging neckline. Does she get your vote for best dressed of the night or is her frock too scandalous for an “FOFirst lady”?

Jodie Foster

We love the color of this deep blue bedazzled dress from Giorgio Armani, but we wish it was more FOFigure flattering. Jodie’s sleek Anna Wintour style-bob and understated yet classic makeup earn her extra points, but overall we expected more from this legendary actress, who accepted the Cecille B. DeMille Award for lifetime achievement at this year’s Golden Globes.

Julia Louis-Dreyfus

Julia celebrated her 52nd birthday at the Golden Globes, but we’re not a fan of her birthday suit. Julia’s jewel-tone, custom-made Vera Wang dress with black lace overlay washes her out, and her nude-tone lipstick doesn’t help. Her battened-down hairstyle looks a bit greasy, and the A-line cut of this dress makes her look wider than she is.  We prefer the hip-hugging, saucy yet sophisticated Vera Wang that she hit the red carpet with at last year’s Golden Globes.

Helen Hunt

Is this about as good as it gets for Helen Hunt? We’re mad about hue, as in the rose smoke color of her Dolce & Gabbana tulle and beaded column gown. But, do you think The Sessions (2012) star–shined?

Anjelica Huston

Did Anjelica Huston get a little too into her role as Morticia in the Addams Family? Is it just us or is her Memeka by Gustava Cadile gown is looking a little crepe-y and cooky? Or do you think the getup which featured a silver metallic and lace bell sleeve top with black silk skirt is a Smash-ing success?

Jacki Weaver

We recently learned that Emerald is the 2013 Pantone color of the year. To that end, Jacki Weaver, the Silver Linings Playbook (2012) supporting star, couldn’t have had better timing when she chose to sport this green gown by Pamella Roland to last night’s Golden Globes. Its flutter sleeve and ruched bodice are all great choices for an FOF, but is she swimming in a sea of green with that full and flowy skirt?

Julianne Moore

We’re in love with Julianne’s custom made minimalist black and white gown, designed by her good friend and fashion designer Tom Ford. The open back is just the right amount of revealing, and her eye-catching Bvlgari chandelier earrings and bangle bracelet complete the look beautifully. Do you agree?

Anjelica Huston would have been better off dressing like Morticia. It looks sloppy and crooked! lol

Helen Mirren, Julianne Moore and Helen Hunt were lovely wouldn’t change a thing.
Sally Field’s dress was a great color and style but the neckline was a bit too low to be flattering.
Jodie Foster looked nice but not exceptional. Her hair would have looked better up, with drop earrings.
Julia Louis Dreyfuss’s dress is beautiful but not on her. It made her look to wide, bordering on frumpy. She needed a wider belt and to have the skirt narrowed down and brighter make-up.
Angelica’s choice was beautiful ensemble again but not on her. I would have added a black strapless corset instead of the white and she would be fine.
Jacki Weaver was swimming in fabric, great color too much of it. The dress needed a slimmer sheer long sleeve.

My top favourite was Julianne Moore – the dress was body skimming but not hugging and she was really rocking the 60s vibe with the colour blocked dress, the swept up hair and her vintage 1960s Bulgari jewels.

Next favourite was Jodie Foster. I thought her dress looked magnificent and she is obviously in really great shape. I thought her makeup a little severe though.

Helen Hunt looked lovely but she is blessed with a very slim figure which you need for such a dress!

Helen Mirren – I thought the dress a bit too clingy, showing up all the bumps rather than skimming over them and I really disliked her earrings. She usually does well, but I’m really not fussed on this look.

Sally Field looked good – yes she’s exposing some skin that isn’t as young as it once was, but she gets away with it admirably.

Jackie Weaver – too much fabric for her small stature. Good colour though!

Angelica and Julia – boring and not that flattering.

Jody Foster and Helen Mirren – what stunning ladies! Gorgeous dresses on gorgeous (timeless) women. Sally Field is beautiful as well, but loses points for not wearing the right foundation for the plunge and it’s not that she couldn’t pull it off with the right support.

Julianne Moore’s tight updo put me off on her look – a softer ‘do would have flattered more, because the dress is wonderful.

Julianne Moore was my absolute #1 favorite. But Helen Mirren (who, if you recall, used to wear some pretty hideous numbers!) has totally stepped-up the class factor and looked GREAT!

…And Anjelica probably would have looked good if the blouse were untucked. Maybe belt it, untucked. There are some good elements to her look–I like the necklace, and the black skirt works–just don’t tuck the blouse!

Sally Field is beautiful if she’s wearing a burlap bag! And this is a lovely dress. But–the width of the bodice opening makes her look broad in the waist, somehow. It draws my eye to her waist instead of her face. I’m not a fan of that type of neckline except for the extremely thin, tall (usually very young) person. A more subdued neckline would hav made the dress absolute perfection, in my opinion.

You only have to look at Helen Mirren and Julianne Moore to learn that the adage “less is more” always applies to evening gowns. These two women dress impeccably and are always elegant. Julia Louis-Dreyfuss looked liked she was wearing drapery! Jacki Weaver is short and plump – the last person who should be wearing all that fabric! What can anyone say of Angelica Huston except that she always dresses horribly and this was no exception. As for Sally Field, plunging necklines on women in their late-60s just look awful and allow the turkey neck to stand out. That gown was for a much younger woman!

What in the world was Angelica Huston thinking? This is the best picture for learning ‘what not to wear’.

Lesson #1 White Enlarges…and dark slims you down.
Lesson #2 Since she obviously is larger on top than on the bottom, AND she wants to wear lighter on top, the fabric she used could have supported her better.
    Lesson #3 Watch your necklines.

    Poor choice this time…sorry Angelica.
