{What do you think of this look?} 2013 SAG Awards

Two weeks ago, we featured our FOFashion faves and flops from the Golden Globes. Last night, they had a chance to dazzle us again…or in some cases to redeem themselves!

What do you think: Were their fashion choices fab, or should we wish them better luck at the Oscars?

Julianne Moore

We thought Julianne wouldn’t be able to top her stunning Golden Globe getup…and we were right. Did she take the concept of SAG awards a little too literally? It’s hard to pay proper attention to her white, haute couture Chanel gown with its lovely navy flower applique details. While beautiful, she’s FOFalling out of it, but nothing a little double sided tape can’t fix…right?

Nicole Kidman

Nicole Kidman’s navy and black Vivienne Westwood gown with its revealing side slit FOFlaunts her best assets–her uber-toned legs and fab Manolo Blahnik shoes! However, with the intricate detailing on her navy and black Vivienne Westwood gown, we just don’t know where to look first. We’re undecided on this one.

Sally Field

Sally: You chose such a stunning shade of purple for your SAG awards gown. Bra-va! However, we really wish you selected a better bra! Your J. Mendel gown, while beautifully delicate, is just a bit too sheer for your undergarments. Better luck at the Oscars?

Edie Falco

Thumbs up for Soprano’s matriarch and Nurse Jackie star, Edie Falco’s new dark ‘do. As for her marine blue Chantilly lace Chagoury gown, well, it really makes her baby blue eyes stand out, but doesn’t do much for her FOFigure. What do you think?

Alfre Woodard

Last night, Alfre Woodard, received a SAG award for “Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor” in the all-black remake of Steel Magnolias. We also think she deserves an award for this stunning chartreuse, off-the-shoulder Kevan Hall gown. It’s flattering, forgiving and just, plain FOFabulous. If we are being nitpicky, then we might suggest she have a tailor take it up a few centimeters on the bottom, but all in all, one of the best in show. Do you agree?

Jessica Lange

We think American Horror Story star Jessica Lange looks stunning in navy blue, but we wish her J.Mendel dress wasn’t so sheer and revealing, especially around her waistline! She didn’t take home the award for best female actress in a drama series, but did she win your vote for best dressed?

Helen Hunt

We give Helen Hunt two-thumbs up for this sizzling strapless gown by Romona Keveza. However, her choker and chunky bangle bracelet by Neil Lane add superfluous sparkle to a gown which already shines. What do you think?

Sigourney Weaver

Sigourney Weaver’s shapeless black satin dress is so poorly made that it’s designer remains unnamed. Not only does this dress make the actress look wider than she really is, but her lack of undergarments leaves her looking like she has a uni-boob! There’s plenty of room in Sigourney’s dress, but it’s such a miss that it doesn’t leave much room for debate. What do you think?

Jackie Weaver

We think that the cut of Jacki’s Tadashi Shoji dress is super FOFlattering, but it’s gunmetal color is a bit of a letdown after she sparkled in a gorgeous-colored but ill-fitting emerald dress at the Golden Globes. Here’s an idea, Jacki: mix and match the shape of this gown with the gorgeous green hue from the Globes and then maybe you’d have a winning ensemble…What do you think, FOFs?

Jane Lynch

Glee star Jane Lynch ditched her signature pant-suit for this black satin studded signature gown from David Meister. We love seeing her all glammed out in smoky eye makeup and a full-length gown, but we think that the studded harness makes her look a bit FOFreaky.

Although Jane Lynch is wearing a very strong dress, I feel she is one women who can get away with it because of her personality and humor. Her figure is great, and she pulls it off.
I love Helen Hunt…How glamorous and perfect.

Sometimes I wonder if the stars just want to get noticed so they wear unflattering or inappropriate fashion. With all the money and stylists, one would think they all would look terrific!

The most bizarre thing about Sigourney’s is that she wore it backwards, which surely made it worse: http://www.redcarpet-fashionawards.com/2013/01/29/sigourney-weaver-wore-her-2013-sag-awards-lanvin-gown-back-to-front/

And do people really believe “old” arms shouldn’t be seen in public? That’s bizarre, too!

What’s with all the super long lengths? It’s a wonder they didn’t trip all over themselves. The shoes you were able to see were not a great match, either. AND: too many turkey necks! UGLY! They could have taken a lesson from Kate Hepburn: wear a high/turtle neck.

What the what, Sigourney! All of the other dresses are either fab or semi-fab… but Sigourney’s dress is just horrifying. Women of a certain age should never wear a flat rectangle of hefty bag plastic over their mature bustline. V-neck, yes. Plunging, yes. Hester Prinn-esque? Nevah!

I looked over this with my 21 year old son, we mostly agreed but I like the purple dress and the navy blue while he didn’t. He thought Helen Hunt’s and Alfre Woodards were the best due to the simplicity of the designs.

It’s fun just to watch the fashions. I learn well what not to wear in these award shows!

Sally Field looks lovely! She still looks like she could play Gidget! I know some of you mentioned her bra…don’t you think that was built into the dress? Not sure, but I love her and think she always looks adorable!

I think Sally’s dress looks like a nightgown. Julianne’s would have been so beautiful without that awful plunge. It’s always
so baffling to me that these women have money, stylists, and free gowns given to them by designers and they still end up
    fashion disasters.

Sally’s dress would have been a “love” if only for a better bra. And Sigourney, my dear brilliant woman…what were you thinking??? Helen Hunt….total WIN in my book.

When I was a kid I couldn’t wait to grow up and where my mothers clothes. They were so beautiful. Now we have grown women trying to wear there kids dresses. I don’t get it.

  13. Deborah Shade says:

These women all have teams of stylist to help them and designers that send them dresses. Can’t anyone in that town be honest and tell these women how terrible they look? They are all beautiful talented women and there is no reason for some of them to ever walk down a red carpet looking any less then that. Why do they insist on trying to wear dresses designed for 20 somethings instead of one that flatters the women that they have worked so hard to become?

  14. KM says:

Why are you including FUF’s? (Fab Under Fifty’s) in this line up? This is like having 12 year olds in anti-wrinkle cream ads. Just saying.

  15. BlueBear says:

After 50, particularly after 60, unless you have arms like Michelle Obama, they should be covered! The ever-elegant Helen Mirren knows this and she always looks like she belongs on the 10 best dressed list! Having Kidman and Hunt, both in their 40s and fabulous, is a bit unfair on a site that is supposed to be for women over 50. Sally Field is now 66 and she looks it. Dressing in a gown that is suitable for a much younger woman made her look OLD! Sigourney Weaver always looks horrid. Alfre Woodard, at 60, is so beautiful and elegant and never puts a foot wrong in the evening gown selections she wears. Jackie Weaver is short and pudgy. All of that material in that gown didn’t help a thing and she looked awful. Edie Falco’s gown looked like something my Grandmother would have used as a tablecloth! Don’t these women have mirrors?

    REPLY
  16. Sheila A. Brennan says:

You know that these actresses have “people” who could tell them that a gown just doesn’t work or truly is FOF FAB! Surely they try it on before walking the red carpet. There were some train wrecks here. Regardless of her bra choice, I did love the color and style of Sally Field’s dress — again, didn’t she see the bra showing when she looked in her mirror?
