{Giveaway} A $625 tweed jacket

SmallGiveaway Avery Jacket

FOF clothing designer, Marisa Minicucci, is giving away this chic tweed “Avery” jacket from her new line, Minicucci and Marcanio (retail value: $625) in the subtle color-way, pictured above. Enter to win by leaving an answer below to this question: WHAT WOULD YOU WEAR WITH THE AVERY JACKET?

FOF Marisa Minicucci, from Canada, remembers the first piece of apparel she sewed. “I wanted to wear a jean skirt and vest I saw, and my mother, a seamstress, wouldn’t make it for me,” Marisa says. “So, while she was out, I started cutting and sewing. My pattern was out of newspaper and I used my sister as a guide. It had the yellow top stitch and everything. When my mother came home, she couldn’t believe it.”

Marisa was a natural. She went to design school to hone her pattern-making skills, and after her first job working for an importing company (“I hated it!” she says), she landed a position at a Montreal fashion company that specialized in high-end coats and eyewear. Marisa launched its first sportswear collection. “It was the 80s, the era of coordinated sportswear,” she says with a laugh.

Marisa took a leap of faith in 1993 and started her own sportswear line, Marisa Minicucci. “I then pushed the envelope and made another collection that was even younger,” she says. That line, M Siamo, earned her the name of “Montreal’s Grand Dame of Fashion,” and as a result, many consider her to be “one of the city’s top satorial talents.” (Source: About.com Montreal)

The line was discontinued in 2008 because “it was so difficult to please all these retailers,” Marisa explained in an About.com article.

Today, she’s back, this time with daughter, Anissa. Together, they’re creating a multi-generational collection of high-end RTW fabric jackets, under the brand Minicucci and Marcanio. “I told my daughter we need to go back to one commodity product,” says Marisa. ” It makes for a really interesting product when you bring generations together. Anissa wears a jacket one way, I wear it another, but its always the same jacket. We’ve mastered the fit of these jackets so real women can wear them,” Marisa adds. “They make you feel young, sophisticated and modern.”

The collection launched last month and is currently available online at wearmm.com. Marisa estimates it will be available at about 25 stores in the United States and Canada for the Fall 2013 season. Marisa hopes also to introduce men’s jackets in the future.

Enter to win the chic, tweed “Avery” jacket from Marisa’s new line, Minicucci and Marcanio, (retail value: $625)  by leaving an answer below to this question: WHAT WOULD YOU WEAR WITH THE AVERY JACKET?

One FOF will win. (See all our past winners, here.) (See official rules, here.) Contest closes April 25th, 2013 at midnight E.S.T. Contest limited to residents of the continental U.S.

  67. Linda Leasure-Maddox says:

I love Fall and this jacket reminds me of that beautiful time of year. Because of the texture of the jacket I’d wear a soft silk shirt for contrast, collarless in a light beige tone. I’d add straight legged jeans in a dark wash with brown leather ‘booties’ with a chunky heel. The jacket has a ‘substantial’ feel to it and a thicker heel (maybe 1-1/2″ high) would set it off. I’d even use a ‘wood’ appearance on the heel. Since this jacket makes me feel like walking around the city in cool weather I’d add a fedora to set in all off in a shade that matches the jacket pockets! Perfect!

Tweeds are beautiful to wear, with the different colors offered & the cut of the jacket-I would pull them out and wear a nice turtleneck of rayon/silk. The clingy fit of the fabric and sheen it takes on would really compliment the style. I would wear dress slacks in a brown color tone to match in a felted wool. I would love to wear suede heels or flats depending on my schedule and a nice cross body bag would make a day out on the Ave. fun-hands free for all the shopping! I would wear this colorful jacket with a casual yet fitted solid color skirt, just above the knee. The skirt’s material would have to have a ‘stretch’ type fabric for comfort yet will align itself well to the lines that give your jacket that sleek, tailored looked without being ‘tight’.. A well fitted jacket is a must to give that stylish Put-Together look without trying too hard. My daughter and I share lots of garments and I too, find that she will most likely wear this outfit and present her own flair by complimenting the look with accessories.
