Why do we hear so many donts about our ‘dos when we turn fifty? “Long hair is for 20-year-olds, don’t grow out your hair” or “Don’t let your hair go gray–it ages you!” What do we believe? Are maxims about our manes meant to be broken?
Take a look at these FOF celebs. Some have opted for long locks others for trimmed tresses. Some sport silver styles other color their coiffures. What do you think of their ‘dos? Answer our poll and find out what other FOFs think.

Diane H Hinkle says:
Please, leave us alone. There are those of us who love our gray hair. Would I love to have natural curls………you bet. But with my very fine hair, I end up with frizz, so I live with my very straight, fine, white hair. Honestly, I could not wait to get old and gray for I was told my hair would become wiry and curly and hard to manage. Nothing happened. I am white and my hair is as straight and silky as the day I was born, just a different color.
Wouldn’t it be a boring world if we all looked just alike with the same cuts, the same colors and wearing what the designers say we should. I cannot make my hair do what I am told to do for my age.
Please, let us be ourselves, whatever we choose.

I might appreciate to be anywhere near a beach!
Trisha says:
Rita’s got great cheekbones that are lost with all that hair. Long is ok, but a more flattering style would be better for her.
Daniela says:
You know, the long hair really depends on the face. The style of the hair can sometimes “drag down’ a face thereby highlighting the wrinkles etc… But I bet all of these hollywood types are happy with their looks. Right?! Wouldn’t you if you has stylists et al telling you how fab you looked? To me, hair dye is the best invention since the Pill.

I wear my hair like Jami Lee. I love the style aqnd I don’t color mine either. I love it and so does my family.
KLH says:
Rita Wilson would look so much younger with whiter teeth.
Teresa says:
I agree with everyone below – the only rule should be what looks good on the individual, regardless of age, although cincidentally I found myself voting for “cut” in most cases , not short, but rather shaped and layered to be more flattering to them – most of the current looks on the long-haired women tend to drain their faces and make their hair look limp and tired.
Catherine Davis says:
Jane Seymour and Blythe Danner should cut their hair shoulder length and Blythe should also color with a light natural blonde. She is so pretty and just needs to spruce it up a little. I think shoulder length looks better on all older women instead of the waist long length.
BlueBear says:
I was thrilled to see Helen Mirren get nearly a unanimous vote to keep her gray hair! She is the epitome of FOF and is a dynamic, vibrant and sexy lady! As a rule, women over fifty look younger with a shorter hairstyle; however, if wearing your hair long makes you feel fabulous, why not? It’s the 21st century, ladies! Wear what makes YOU feel good!
Jeanene Pennington says:
At the end of the day we do not get a vote. Seriously,
all women have their needs but having other women judge them is not one of them. Individuality is precious. Keeping your individuality is a triump in the face of naysayers.
Deborah Shirley says:
Thankfully these pictures are not airbrushed; however, now that I have seen them, I am disappointed about all the wrinkles I see on most of these celebs. These ladies have the financial means to use the best wrinkle creams, lotions, or even “elite potions” to reduce wrinkles; therefore, if what they spend does not do the trick, cosmetic manufacturers may as well throw in the towel, and those of us who keep buying the “best” we can afford may as well accept our wrinkles and save our money!
Deb says:
I appreciate when women are brave enough to go with a God-given color; they should then choose to go with a style that flatters their features.
Marla Davis says:
All these ladies are gorgeous and like all of us, try different colors and lengths. But, on any of us, during a certain season or time, we could color, highlight, snip off the dead ends etc. and get a new look! 🙂
Louise says:
The only one I was conflicted with was Rita Wilson. I was outvoted, and I agree that she probably needs a more flattering cut to suit her face shape. Her hair is overwhelming her features. But I must admit that if I had a healthy head of hair like Rita’s, I would be tempted to let it grow long. There is so much more you can do with long hair.
One other comment about Blythe Danner – I agree that a warm color would light up her face. But she needs a good trim as well to get rid of those frayed ends!
Mamavalveeta03 says:
In viewing these pics of celebs, it becomes really evident that whether “to cut or to keep” depends upon bone structure, style, image, and most of all: individuality!
Colleen says:
Blythe Danner should cut her hair. The color is ok.
Susan says:
It’s up to that individual person on what they like for their hair style. There’s too many dictators out there telling you what to do. Do what “you” want not what someone else wants for you!!
Soledad says:
I voted to cut on most of the women only because I think they could find a better style. I think gray hair can be very pretty, so no need to color it. However, Blythe’s gray is not pretty. She should color it and get a good cut. I don’t think older women have to go by the old rules. You just need the right cut and color for you. I hate to say it but the wrinkles bothered me. I think they have enough money to buy the best in wrinkle creams. So why look like this?
