When FOF Susie Hadas turned 47, she experienced one of her first hot flashes while in conversation with a co-worker. Susie, a former IT consultant was quite uncomfortable and began moving the hair away from her neck and playing with the collar of her shirt. The bizarre behavior led her 28-year-old co-worker to ask Susie if she was flirting with him. “I said, ‘I’m old enough to be your mother!’” says Susie. “I’m just having a hot flash! Can we get back to business over here?”
The embarrassing experience with her work colleague made Susie realize she needed to find a quick solution. “I was having a meltdown, both literally and figuratively,” says Susie. She tried multiple products–some she felt were too “risky” whereas others simply didn’t work. Susie realized that there was a “ridiculous gaping hole in the market.”
So, in 2007, she created her own–coldfront, a “personal cooling system,” including two chilly palm packs that stay soft at sub-zero temperatures and fit in a chic sunglass-sized case.
“The moment you feel a hot flash coming on, take a palm pack out of the case and apply it wherever you need it…Relief will be immediate,” says the product website. The packs stay cold for the average length of a hot flash, and the case re-cools them within 20 minutes after each use.
Susie says that beyond hot flashes, many of her customers have reported other uses for coldfront including soothing the skin post-cosmetic surgery and cooling hot flashes associated with cancer medications.
Furthermore, her cooling system has already proved to be a hot commodity–both The Washington Post and Oprah.com editors have recommended it.
But, will it work for you? 10 FOFs will put it to the test. Leave a comment below for a chance to win.

I would LOVE to test this Coldfront product! We have become a Texan after moving here several years ago and I have always been very hot natured, yet the Texas weather is hard to tolerate sometimes! I love working in my garden and my yard and the minute I walk out, I start sweating at the roots of my hair! When we go to Karaoke with our group, I always carry a pocket fan with me, so this would be so much better to have! This would be divine to use and show off to my friends…..I would really get alot of good use out of it, especially since we like to do so many outdoor activities! I will keep my fingers crossed to win this treasure!

I have been so embarrassed from my hot flashes happening at the most inopportune times. This would be so great to try! It is the hot flashes that have given me the most trouble out of all of the symptoms, and I get them horribly bad. It looks like I have been working out with how much I heat up and sweat from them. I am willing to use anything to stop them or at least let me cool down from them and give me a modicum of control over them .

I had a hysterectomy at 37 and immedialty went on HRT so I never experieced hot flashes at the time most women do. Then suddenely at 68 ( and still on a reduced level of HRT) I have started geting them! They come about every 45 minute to 1- hour and last only about 4-5 minutes . IT is this sudden, dreadful heat that makes me have to toss off anything I am wearing that I can and go stand under a fan or such.
This sounds like a super solution-and small enough for a purse or even back pocket.
Sign me up!

I have hot flashes and now have thyroid nodules which is even compromising my internal thermomter even more. I go between hot and cold quite often. They may have to remove the mass.
I am having a second thyroid ultrasound on the 19th. If the nodules are cold that means it is cancer. I will always have this problem the rest of my life even if they take out the thyroid gland. I live in NY and NY has the highest rate of thyroid disease and thyroid cancer in the united states. I would love to try these especially for during the night.
deb says:

Erin Duggan says:
THANK YOU for sharing this great tip with us! The ice cubes I put in my plastic, zip-lock bags definitely do NOT refreeze for the inevitable next use AND this method is none too discreet! You’re so on target about the “ridiculous, gaping hole” in effective, safe hot-flash mangement.
Caryn says:

Coldfront’s chilly packs could be the answer to this “hot” Dame’s nuclear flashes! I use freezy water bottles and wet small handtowels (in baggies), as I have 6-8 “flashy-sessions” per day (wiping my dripping face continually). Sometimes, I just throw down the towels and camp out in front of the open FREEZER door for relief. Coldfront, please come to my rescue and deliver some chilly pacs soon (it just might save my ice cream from melting), to send my spirits soaring with the birds on clouds of coooooolnessss. Thank You!
Margee says:

Suffering from hot flashes for 9 years. They are so extreme at times that I feel I want to move in to the frozen food section of supermarkets. I’ve tried all known remedies with the exception of HRT, but nothing works.
I turn red as a lobster and sweat for up to 5 minutes until my clothes are soaked.

Deb says:

Vicki says:
Oh please please please pick me. My husband is on a medication that makes him perpetually cold and can’t put on enough layers to make him warm, while I can’t keep the temperature low enough. Most days he needs a parka while I’d prefer to be nude! These handy little pouches will go a long way to resolving our thermostat wars 🙂
Cathy says:
Vicki, you made me laugh out loud!!! I have the same problem. I keep telling everyone in my family to put on a sweater because they really don’t want me to take my clothes off!! Good luck to you! I hope you get to try them. I know I am going to try to find them asap! Try putting something cold on the inside of your wrists. Some of my older friends told me to do that when I was melting down one day at church! They said it helps cool your blood circulating through your veins! It has really helped me but not practical to grab ice out of your drink and put it on your wrist in a restaurant!
Kyah says:
*RAISING HAND* Puleeeeezzzzeeeee pick me!
I’ve been crazy with hot flashes for the last 8 years. Doctor said they’d go away on their own, well, they haven’t. My mother, God rest her soul, was still complaining about hot flashes well into her late 70s. I can’t last that 20 more years of this agony and am not a pill taker!
I have folding fans of various materials in every pocketbook; battery operated fan that used to be on a spray bottle but I’m on my third one because I tend to burn them out, and the cooler packs people use to keep food cool? I have them in Zip Loc bags and some times sleep with them. It’s so bad strangers come up to me and ask me if I’m all right. No, I’m power surging, step back and no one will get hurt! LOL 😉
donnarp1 says:
Sounds like a great product to try.
Allison GrahamEaly says:
wow – to have my own personal cooling system. please sign me up. my flashes are so bad that after i take a shower in the morning and get dress, i can not put on my make-up until after i get to work. mind you i work 45 miles from my home and i am on public transportation waring a sleevless dress and a hand fan and a washrag to mop up the sweat running down the side of my face and down my back. so yes i really really need to be able to try this new product.

Joyce says:
I have been having my own “personal summers” for about two years now. The hot flashes feel like an internal flame that lasts forever. Friends have literally seen the sweat on my brow. When my husband doubted how hot I was in my tank top in the middle of a cold New Jersey February, I had him feel the moisture of sweat and the damp hair on the back of my neck. How wonderful would it be to be able to grab one of these, always cool packs, where ever and when ever the flash strikes!
Martha says:
Oh, to be cool again.
Holly Hartman says:
What a great idea! I’ve carried a lovely folding Japanese fan in my purse for years, this seems much more discrete than me flapping the fan in my face all the time!

I would consider these a true miracle if they work as advertised!

This product looks like a real winner and one that truly works on the spot (literally!). I would love to try it … as I get hot flashes daily and especially when I am exposed to hot air, stress, or after eating and drinking. Would be so handy to be able to apply the palms right where I need to, when I need to. My neck and hair especially sweat most frequently.
