How can I stop procrastinating? I do feel I work best when there is a pressing deadline, but I still don’t like to feel as if I’m not accomplishing as much as I could be.
There’s an old saying, “why put off what you can do today until tomorrow”? Because, lets face it, tomorrow will properly bring more opportunities to put something off and then your load is so heavy …boom, nothing gets done!
I believe it’s a s simple as prioritizing, deciding what is really important and getting things done, so you do feel a sense of accomplishment.
We live in a fast paced crazy world and maybe you need those quite moments, to allow yourself to breathe and even meditate to clear your head, so you can understand why you procrastinate? Being aware is the first step to understanding , you don’t need the answers right away, but you do need to understand the root of why and what your feeling.
I will close with a simple message that I’m sure you’ve heard before …we only have this moment, this time,so be present and experience it and make sure you do the things that bring you a sense of accomplishment and joy!
• Set realistic expectations about the outcome of your project.
• Break the task down into small steps, then put them on a timeline. Trying to accomplish too much at once is daunting and self-defeating.
• Prioritize and do the most important things first, before you get sidetracked and too busy doing other things. Conquering the giants early will feed your energy and enthusiasm for the rest of the day.
• Try setting a timer. Set it for 30 minutes and start working on your task, focusing on it with no distractions. When that 30 minutes are up, celebrate the progress you have made! You might even want to go for another 30!
• Consider the cost of NOT starting. Next week or next month, will you wish you had begun today? How hard will you have to work to get caught up?
• Find an accountability partner and tell her what your challenge is. Set a deadline together for completing your task, and be prepared to report your progress to her on your designated day. You’ll be amazed at how much you will get done when you are accountable to someone else.
