When FOF introduced a feature on the site in mid-2010, where moms could help “fix up” their single kids, we never dreamed the publicity floodgates would open. Colby and I were on The Today Show, The View, CNN, The Gayle King Show, and more. We also were interviewed remotely for Canadian and Australian TV, German radio and an Italian magazine. The premise of the feature, called Datemysinglekid.com, was resonating with moms all over the place. FOFs are always trying to set up their single kids behind the scenes, offline. Why not work their magic online, too?
We haven’t intensively promoted the DMSK feature on the site, but FOFs are adding new “kids” every week. And we still get phone calls from the media. Now we’re planning our first Date My Single ‘Kid’ Live! event, along with Michelle Slonim, creator of the successful Date My Jewish Friend parties in New York. (You don’t have to be Jewish, though, to come to DMSK Live!) All moms are invited to take their adult ‘kids’ to this mix and mingle. No mom can enter without a kid, and vice-versa.
“This is a rare opportunity for moms and their kids to do the matchmaking thing together,” Michelle says. ‘It’s like speeding dating plus speed family meeting.
