I am a Type II diabetic who would like fat grafting procedures to enhance the breast and butt. I would like to know if there are any board certified plastic surgeons who would perform those types of procedures on me.
Dear Louisiana Friend, We commonly perform buttock augmentation with fat transfer but breast augmentation with fat grafting is not yet considered mainstream and has potential drawbacks. For instance, if asymmetric volumes of the fat “take”, you will have breast asymmetry. More importantly, some of the fat may absorb and leave microcalcifications and thereby remove the most important screening tool for breast cancer we have–the mammogram. Microcalcifications are an early sign of breast cancer and if the breast develops these from fat grafting, mammogram usefulness is reduced.
