I’m thinking about getting breast implants soon. What are some good questions I can ask my surgeon? What should I or shouldn’t I bring up?

When considering breast implants there are lots of things to ask.

First, find out all about yor surgeon. Training. Certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery? Member of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons? Member of the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery? Local reputation, number of years in practice, how many of these procedures has he/she done?

Second, find out all about your procedure: incision choice, implant type, need for a lift, over or under the muscle, will measurements be taken, how is the size and style planned? Why is this chosen? Recovery needed. Time off work.

Third, find out where it will be done? Will you be asleep? Is the anesthesiologist Certified by the American Board of Anesthesia?

There are so many things to ask and discusss. This is just a start. There is a lot to talk about. Good luck with your decision.

There isn’t anything you cannot bring up… especially if you’re having any concerns about the procedure or the safety of the implants. As for things to ask your surgeon, they usually start with the word WHY… such as why do you prefer one technique over others, or one implant style or type over others, or why under the muscle instead of over the muscle. You can also ask why certain sizes are not recommended. The list is endless and if there is anything presented that is confusing, you should feel at ease to ask about it and for clarification.
