A turkey neck is both skin laxity and fat lipodystrophy and should be done as part of a routine Face and Necklift. This is done by reshaping the deep muscles both centrally and laterally, redraping the skin, and in some instances SMAS removal of fat. This should be done in the hands of a Board Certified Plastic Surgeon with expertise in facial rejuvenation.

A turkey neck will not be helped significantly by liposuction. If there is excess fat in the submental region, liposuction can remove that fat, but will make the loose skin look even worse potentially with irregularities that do not look natural. For moderate tightening, laser treatment (the laser is inserted underneath the skin) in a treatment modality called Precision gives more improvement than external treatments such as radiofrequency or ultrasound. The optimal results are achieved with a necklift or lower facelift ( the latter addresses both the face and the neck and allows more complete skin redraping.

Your age and amount of fat in the neck would determine whether liposuction or skin removal would be the better procedure. If you have loose, hanging skin, then the procedure would be to remove skin and tighten the neck by making incisions around the ears. This would be a “neck lift”

Thanks for your question. If excess skin is the issue, a face or neck lift might be the solution. A non-surgical alternative we have had good success with is Ultherapy for tightening a turkey neck. A consultation with a board-certified plastic surgeon could determine the best option for you.

Yes, it can be combined with a lower facelift to tighten the neck.

A “turkey neck can be treated with either a cervicoplasty or a face and neck lift. A crvicoplasty is more preferable in men as the scar under the chin and on the front of the neck heals more favorably in men. However, it is a much less invasive procedure requiring less surgical time and less recovery time.
